Invidia N1 Exhaust Noise In Ontario
Im about to purchase a N1 Exhaust. My friends are telling me im retarded because its too loud and im going to get pulled over.
Is there anyone in Toronto, Markham and these areas who have the Invidia N1 and who has gotten pulled over because their exhaust is too loud? Are cops allowed to give me a ticket, arrest me and etc for having this exhaust? |
Arrest you, no. Ticket, yes.
AFAIK the N1 unit comes with silencers as well. Maybe someone who has the setup can chime in and confirm. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I've got the N1 with silencers in. Personally it was too loud for me without the silencers as it drones quite a bit. The silencers aren't a perfect fit though, so they rattle quite a bit until the car comes up to temp.
As for trouble with the cops, I've had no problems with them with the silencers in. Never had any problems either when I didn't have the silencers for the first couple weeks. |

If your car is too loud, yes the police will stop you. Ticket you and begin to look at everything around you car to see what else they can ticket while there at it and in some cases even make you do a emissions test if the detect cat removals etc.... Think of it this way...loud exhaust attract people. Your telling everyone to look at you. So cops will also look over ;) From what i know, the N1 is only a good choice if you plan to keep everything else in the exhaust stock. I'll tell you though, the best feeling is when you have a quiet exhaust (aftermarket) and you can still give it a lot of gas beside a cop or when his behind you and never get bothered because the car is still quiet :) |
I plan on keeping everything stock after the N1. I'm going to focus purely on cosmetic mods after that. My tint is also 33% which is afaik very close to legal, 35%.
If I don't like drive like a douchebag, you think it'd be safe? Forgot to mention, I drive an automatic so my RPMs shift at 2.5k so it won't go terribly loud. |

I don't think you will have problems if you don't drive like a douchbag :) Cops aren't there to pull over modded cars, they are there to enforce the law. So if you drive safe and don't get rev happy near a cop you won't have issues for the most part. |

But, I digress. As has been eloquently stated, there will be consequences to making yourself more 'noticeable'. Not necessarily good ones. Run that on a BRZ in other than 'snow mode', and, good luck to you. Run it on your Tesla and you should be fine. |

How's the drone from 1.5k-2.5k? |
Have a buddy who drives with an n1 and catless front pipe. Loud af but no tickets
|
They can't arrest you and I doubt you will get ticketed (depending on how you drive), but to be safe like others have mentioned you can use the supplied silencers that come with the exhaust.
I have one on my BRZ and until I upgraded to headers I didn't stress about the exhaust noise. It does have a slight drone, but personally it was nothing to fuss about if it's going to be your only exhaust modification. |

Thanks for the quick replies guys.
From what I gathered, it's not that bad but there is some drone to it which should be tolerable. If not, I can always put the silencers in. As for cops, it shouldn't be an issue since it's AT and I'll be careful. Is it easy to put the silencers on? Show em into the exhaust tip? |

Silencers are easy just shove them in and bolt it on. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk |
My RPMs usually sits around 2k-2.5k on highways.

https://i.ytimg.com/vi/Xh3J8r-IgpM/maxresdefault.jpg Why don't you look into just getting a quieter exhaust so you don't need to drive it at 2500rpm forever. Don't they make something called the Q300? BTW droning on the hwy at cruising speeds really sucks you'll get a headache. |
Quote:
I'd only put that on if I know i'm going to be going long distance, for example driving to the US. I looked into the Q300 but people said it's only slightly louder than stock. Im currently running a GReddy sp Elite which was apparently a bit louder than stock too. Needless to say, it was way too quiet, basically no difference. The only thing I am worried about is highway without the silencers. I wish I could sit in a N1 first but nobody I know has one. |

I actually coulda got a Q300 for cheaper than the N1. But the N1 is newer and the Q300 is being shipped from a seller in the US. |
You guys haven't heard noise problems or drone until you're catless. This car is stupid loud.
|
Yes it will drone, however some owners report less drone with UEL headers. So either just use the silencers for highway trips or choose/save up for other options more tame options such as Corsa, Perrin (resonated), Dezod or Q300.

I have a muffler delete. My friend in Bolton with an FR-S has the N1. He told me my car is louder than his. I've heard him pull up to redline and I think the sound level itself is about the same, but I noticed my muffler delete has a more "mature" sound than the N1; a bit deeper. I personally think the N1 adds some unattractive rasp to the exhaust note that makes it sound more like a Civic, whereas I have ZERO rasp. I do get some drone, but I really don't mind it. And lots of backfire, which I DO like. I've always driven loud cars so it's kind of a preference, and I'm used to it. I should also say I'm also all-stock except for the muffler delete, so if I decide to go catless in the future, I would definitely invest in an axle-back instead. Catless AND muffler delete would be too loud for me.
Perhaps I personally am the wrong one to ask, because I am not a huge fan of the look of "cannister" style exhausts anymore, so the N1 has too much of a "boy racer" look for me. But that's personal preference. In terms of the 5-0, my car is pretty loud and I haven't even had a second glance from a cop ye, and I've had this muffler delete on the car for over 2 years now. The one time I did get pulled over (for speeding), he didn't even mention the exhaust. I also heard rumours that Peel Police are cracking down on loud exhausts; I have recently driven RIGHT NEXT TO a Peel Police cruiser in traffic and he didn't so much as glance. What has been said before is true; loud or not loud, don't drive like an asshole and you won't call any more attention to yourself. There's lots of loud cars out there (aftermarket or just shitty old cars with an exhaust leak) and not every single one of them gets pulled for noise. |
Currently running the Berk dual muffler deleted pipes and have no troubles with cops. Been told it was similar loudness to the N1 (if not louder).
I once rev'd up to 4-5k range around a cop (Yes i'm quite ballsy), and he didn't bat an eye. Only time I got pulled over was at night and a ride check. Other than that enjoy the car, you'll get used to the drone. |
Just buy it. I have been through all this curiosity.
|
Just bought it. Installing on friday. Wish me luck on the highway.

I thought I was going to hate the N1 after I installed it and took it for a ride... I looked at my brother in the passenger seat and said "dude, no way this is way too loud." but after about 3 months, I'm used to it and it doesn't even feel like the car has changed.
If you keep it right about 3k rpm the exhaust is barely noticeable. So when you see a cop, make sure you watch your gauge. Only at above 4K does it start to get loud. I find if the engine is under load (say like going up a steep hill) it gets droney and buzzy. Overall one of the best sounding exhaust in my opinion though. |

It's up to the officers discretion is what I heard. But generally, 35% tint is safe.
|
ive got tomei UEL, tomei mid pipe, invidia catless front pipe, and n1 exhaust, drive smart and you won't be pulled over. launch every light and redline shifts = pulled over
|
I agree with everyone saying to drive smart, if you see a cop just shift at lower RPMS
had an S2000, catless with greddy TI-C single exhaust. loud as fk and smelled really bad, had a friend with S5 that said he couldnt drive behind me because he was getting dizzy from the smell. i also had HP plus pads so it was noisy going and stopping I've had cops tail me many times and was never pulled over. when i picked up my ex GFs before i would never need to text hey im here cause they would hear me a block away. |

I've seen them pullover cars on Erin Mills Pkwy, but most of them were of the "Honda Civic fartcan" variety. Probably because they can also book them for other various unsafe looking mods, with uncessarily large windshield banners, etc. |

curious to get your feedback on the exhaust
theres only so much you can get from watching youtube |

I'll let you know tomorrow after I install. |
I ran the n1 with berk test pipe. It's was loud but your still able to control it... And the drone got annoying. Everytime I let off the pedal it would just drone unless I kept my foot on. I Installed a hks dual resonated front pipe. City driving is much better as well as hwy cruising.. with everything stock and just the n1 catback you should be fine.

I bought some dynomat that I'm going to cover my trunk with this weekend hoping to bring down the cabin noise a lil.

Invidia N1 and Tanabe Catless FP and I have never had any issues with the Police.
It's loud but really not that loud unless you're on it. Sent from my LG-H812 using Tapatalk |
