mods you love and hate
Like the title says, are there any mods that you regret getting and spending money on? What's your favorite mod that you've gotten and thought it was money well spent?
|
Regret staggered 18" wheels
I like my ap sprint kit |
Love that I added a supercharger. Hate that I added a supercharger.
|
This will be a fun thread!
|
Well Guff and Dave are pretty cool but that ichi sometimes....
Don't know the others well enough to have formed an opinion. |
Favorite mod that was money well spent?
Driver mod. :burnrubber: |
Simultaneous love/hate relationship with all mods. I love what they do for the car but I hate not having the complete piece of mind of a stock car with a warranty.
|
Haven't done too much yet, but I would say that the TRD catback was money well spent.
My most hated mod would have to be the small chips on the front bumper from all the highway driving I've been doing.... |
If the love vs. hate includes installation of said mods, then:
I love my Valenti LED side markers but hated installing them. Fuck those clips. |

Being my 3rd sports car, I've learned what I like and don't like so I haven't made any mistakes on this car.
My favorite mod on this car; Fujitsubo Authorize R Catback Exhaust A mod i hate, on this car none, but on the Subaru I have one. Cusco Zero 2r Coilovers Made the car drive like a rock and be horrible in the city. Even on the softest damping setting I couldn't drink a coffee without spilling everything everywhere. Never will i get coils again. I think they are only worth it if you track. Which I don't lol |
The only mod i have is an HKS air filter.
I save up for mods, then find it hard to justify spending it on my car rather than a vacation or investment lol |

I see your point of view but I do like to enjoy some things now, who knows if I invest all my $ for later if I will even get to enjoy it later.
There was also something in your minds that made you spend the money on this car instead of a something like a Versa or Fit. With modifying, I find it like a lot of things, less can be more. For example I wouldn't mind getting some legit suspension, sway bars, corner balancing, and bushings. But for that money I rather do more track time and improve myself with the basic mods I have on the car already. Just need a realistic approach, honestly evaluate how much money you can spend. For me I don't have a significant other so spending $ on a track event is more enjoyment than going on some random vacation alone. Plus you get to play with some really nice people and cars. |
I have a love/hate relationship with my FT86SF V2 exhaust.
Love the way it sounds - Hate that it's single exit. |
Love the hate I get from other drivers when they see me with cruise control all relaxed and nodding my head as I slowly but surely get to my destination with a smile.
Some even smile back, others rev and floor it. I can tell from the dark smoke coming from their exhaust. |

I always say to my wife that if i didn't have a car payment on my brz, we could pretty much go on a nice vacation every 3 months. but then she tells me she likes going on drives |

I never bothered selling them because I knew I'd lose money, so I just kept them. |
Totally worth it:
-JDL UEL header -Moto-East flex fuel kit -RacerX oil cooler -driver mod -rexpeed convex side mirrors (no more blind spots!) Regret: -lightweight pulley set (never installed; sold at a loss) -Raceseng 2" rear shock mounts (should've gone with 1") -Hawk HP+ brake pads (too noisy for street, but overheat on track) |

YESSSSS, getting rid of blind spots and obliterating torque dip with e85 were my best mods |
I would buy a flex fuel kit if I had access to E85 😞

I have 2 (!) that sounded like bullet ricochets when I got them on the highway., and now one of them has oxidization/rust I wonder if anyone was crazy enough to bra/coat the roof too. As for my favourite mods: -Intake and Exhaust combo because it made the car sound like a sports car -MTEC springs, weighted shiftknob and TRD quickshifter to make shifting even more enjoyable (I blip/downshift just for the heck of it from time to time) Most useless/regretted mods: -the OEM-style rear diffuser -possibly the stickier Pilot Super Sports -Knock-off eBay "TRD" seatbelt pads (the damn things never stayed in place to keep the belt comfortable, and always managed to snag something) |

I have stone/debris chips in places that you can only scratch your head how it got there. I have one on the rear fender right beside the trunk lid for crying out loud. Most hit with a velocity that sounded like gun shots so I can't even blame "bad paint" since most would have chipped paint on a tank. My best is the big divot in my front bumper from the flying tail light assembly. Nice groove but never damaged the paint one little bit. |
i love every mod ive done to my car so far. lol.

For myself, I love my drivetrain bushings and shift springs. They've completely changed the character of the car. I don't hate my tint, but I regret not getting it darker and I'm not looking forward to having it redone. |

Full front bumper Full front fenders Full hood Full headlights Full mirrors Half-roof (this one matters to you). It's kept my roof completely safe on the interstate over these few months. |
Usually keep mods to a minimum as I learned years ago that most are ultimately disappointing
So have fitted and seem worthwhile are Grimmspeed hood struts Team voodoo gear knob OBD/torque app Pressed numberplates Waiting to go on are: Passenger seat fire extinguisher mount Oem rear mudguards. Possibly fronts |
