Window seals

First of all.. there are so many topics it would be hard to search them all... so,

You know how the windows roll down and up when you open and close the doors.. does anyone have the same thing as me?

On my driver side when the window rolls back up it catches the seal and pulls it up.

Would this be a warranty fix possibly?

I believe so. If your in warranty just take it in.

Depending on how severe it is, the window seal may just be dried out and need some silicone love.

Almost every problem with the 13's have been addressed. "Take it to the shop" is the best answer.

Mine was smooshed up on the driver side (a friend of mine couldn't stop giggling when I described the issue this way) and it was fixed at the dealership under warranty. Take it in, show them the issue, and they should fix it.

DaJo 04-23-2016 01:19 AM

I've taken mine to the Subaru shop 2-3 years back under warranty and the problem did not go away.

The best solution is to lightly rub some 303 Aerospace Protectant on the seals or a type of silicone based gel. It is not a perm fix, but it will have to do as the dealer will only replace the same exact part on there... The problem will come back.

If you think there is an issue, tell the dealer. At least make sure they note your complaint.

Did you have the door switches replaced? The main problem is the early switches dropped the windows 20mm. A few months into production they cut the index in half. That cured it.

I don't believe they replaced my switches... =/

All I saw on the warranty invoice was the replacement of the seal + labour. :iono:

They didn't follow the TSB. Bummer.

edit: actually, I may have mixed up my TSBs. I can't find the one that specifically addresses that issue. Hmmm...

Ok, here's the best reference to the change in the switches

Mines doing same, I have an ext waranty. They said take it in and they'll pay only if window is off track. If it's a trim thing they won't. Will only cover mechanical seal breakdown

I don't think the door seal issue was covered in a TSB. My bad. But I assure you the root cause is excessive window indexing coupled with the window itself closing too tightly against the seal.
@stockysnail, how is yours holding up after you updated the switches?

Mine is working great after I replaced the switches and the door molding. I never switched the molding on the passenger side as it wasn't as bad but it's not getting any worse on that side after the switch. Overall I'm very glad I did it.

nanofamous 05-29-2016 08:59 PM

I got mine replaced a couple weeks ago... all good for now.
