New member with a BRZ!

Hey guys

I've been lurking the forum for a bit and also posted here and there but I realized I hadn't introduced myself at all so here it goes!

I'm from Australia, Sydney. I bought my BRZ in October 2015. It had 9,000km on it and it's the 2013 BRZ S in pearl white which includes the STI package (coilovers, short shifter, strut bar, body kit, rims etc.). I was initially looking at an 86 but got a great deal on this one that I couldn't pass up on... in the midst of the final month of my university degree. :bonk:
For the people in the area, if you see me around.. come say hi or give me a wave haha. I've seen a few 86 and BRZ around but noone seems to pay attention to others and kind of just floor it..

So far, I haven't done too much to the car, mostly because I'm new to modding cars and it's also still under warranty so I want to wait it out a bit. The previous owner installed an Ark Design catback exhaust which I haven't heard much about but its quiet at idle, deep tone up to 4K RPM and then gets much louder above that. Nice and subtle when cruising around, probably similar to the Invidia Q300.

I recently purchased an Anarchy Motive Mammoth shift knob in gunmetal. Huge thanks to Derrick who responded to my e-mails instantly and had fast international shipping. I HIGHLY recommend a weighted shift knob for anyone who isn't a fan of the clunky gearbox when it's cold.. or just in general. This particular one weighs 625grams so it basically slides through the gates like a hot knife through butter. Incredibly high quality and perfect fitment even with the reverse lock-out and looks awesome too.

Also jumped in on a group buy for Valenti taillights and reverse light by pansontw which included a sequential indicator mod on the taillights. Big thanks to pansontw aswell for quick replies and well packaged shipping. I got them in smoked and it looks awesome on my white BRZ. Had a bit of help from Bearcat86 who taught me how to separate the triangle and the V light on the Valenti reverse light so great thanks to him as well.

Anyway, I haven't had a chance to take it out for some proper photos but here's a few I've taken randomly. I've covered up the number plate mainly because I want to do a custom one but haven't decided what yet.. Probably won't cover it up once I've got a less random one.

Thanks for looking!

Took the car for a bit of camping.. Fit the tent, an ice box, sleeping bags, pillows, blankets, Dune queen sized sleeping mat, and a couple of duffel bags into the car with the back seats down. Not bad!

The Anarchy Motive shift knob, slightly bigger than the STI shift knob that came with the car but still comfortable to hold. I think the STI one is around 150 grams whereas this is 625grams... HUGE difference.

Valenti smoked taillights and reverse light during the daytime when they're off. Black and white theme going on.. with a touch of red from the STI parts.

These turn on with the... headlights I think? Or also in Auto with the boomerang DRL's..

At night when on.. Previous owner changed most of the lights with bright LED's including interior ones. Very bright license plate LED.

After a late night of fishing with my mate who has an S2K AP2.

With the S2K AP2 and a DC2.

Welcome. Nice looking mods. This forum is full of interesting people. Lots of good information. Lots of entertainment.

Enjoy your car in good health.

EddieBRZ 04-20-2016 01:35 PM

Thanks guys. Yeah I've been lurking a bit and learnt so much about the car but still have a long way to go. So much information on this forum it's awesome.

Hoping to keep the exterior a little subtle while changing things I'm not fond off.

Clipdat 04-20-2016 02:24 PM

Nice looking exhaust tips!

EddieBRZ 04-20-2016 02:28 PM

Thanks! I think it's 2.5" catback but with 5" tips. They look huge but they fill up the gaps nicely. Doesn't come out too far either which is good.

Congrats and welcome!

Jfheisenberg 04-20-2016 05:06 PM

Congrats, i did not know that in Australia there was a brz s version.

eSOLOR 04-20-2016 05:36 PM

Welcome. I've always had a thing for that spoiler even though no one really likes it. Do you have any better angles from the rear?

MisterSheep 04-20-2016 05:39 PM

Congratz and welcome to the forum!

Damn it, you covered your license plate. Now I can't find out where you live and steal your car.

Jokes aside, welcome, congratulations, and enjoy your car in good health! I got my '16 BRZ in December and have loved it every minute since.

Thanks guys! Haha I'll leave the license plate once I have something a bit more creative than the random one it's come with. Agreed, I'm loving every bit of this car! May not be the most premium build or feature packed but man is it fun to drive! I go for random drives all the time..

Haha, I didn't even know it was available in other areas.. I knew they sold it with the same kit but do they call it the BRZ S as well?

Yeah, when I first saw the spoiler I wasn't too sure about it. When you look at it head on it curves too much but from the side and behind its nice and subtle and looks great.

Angle such as this? :iono:

The BRZ S package has been around in Australia since the car came out years ago, basically it comes with a bunch of STI Performance parts preinstalled.

BTW those aren't coilovers, they are STI Performance pink springs on stock shocks which are pretty good imo.

Oh right, thanks for the clarification! Everywhere I read, it seemed to mention coilovers and that the car has been lowered a bit more than stock. Didn't know it was just springs.

Would you say they are fine for the very occasional track day? Maybe once every two months or so?

I've never tracked my car but when I had that setup the car seemed to rotate a little more readily than stock during spirited drives.

If you ever move onto the STI springs + shocks combo you will definitely improve the comfort yet with more grip.

The Aussie BRZ S model inspired me to build my own STI setup since we don't get them here in Canada. This was before even the first BRZ tS came out in Japan.

Thats awesome info, thanks for the idea. Most likely keep it the way it is mainly because it's got plenty of feedback for daily and spirited driving and I don't think I'll be going track often. What is the springs + shocks combo you're talking about? A specific sti kit?

Haven't been to the track yet but it's on my to do list later this year, possibly even a skid pan or autox. I want to change the tires and the brakes before then. Oh and an oil cooler but still deciding which to go for.

I also want to keep with the sti theme and tempted to get sti calipers but that's mainly aesthetic. Adding in some slotted rotors and decent pads should be good.

You can order these stuff thru Japanparts if your local dealer is unable to import them. You can check out the parts listing on the following threads where a bunch of us STI nuts hangout

Actually your stock setup is pretty good already, just missing the draw stiffeners if compared to the STI Performance package in Japan.

That looks.. sweeeeet. But yeah hefty pricing for who knows how much difference.

Think I'll focus on getting a bit more oomph out of he car for now, UEL headers are currently my first on the list after my last service under warranty is completed next month.

Those threads look awesome, I'd love to make it a full STI themed brz without going overboard by getting every single part available haha.
