Vent-to-Atmosphere... Engine dying?
Had a serious oil-in-intake problem:
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=98687 Replaced Crawford AOS with RevWorks vent-to-atmosphere catch can and it shows the following at idle: https://youtu.be/N356yZUZSfw Is that real or my engine is dying? Piston rings? What else could it be? P.S. How to embed a video on this forum? |
I thought vent to atmosphere was really only for turbo applications, NA should be closed.

Guess it would help it I read the thread...my bad. Since your HKS boosts before the TB, it should be fine to have a vent to atmosphere model. It doesn't sound like it's idling rough, maybe it's doing that because the catch can is new?
|
Did you block off the inlet where the PCV normally vents into the intake manifold?

Time for a leak down test.
You have my condolences. |
Seems unlikely it's from the catch can. I suspect an unfortunate coincidence instead

Do a compression and then leak down test.

Is that cold idle or warm?
It matters. Is your exhaust smoking as well? This also matters. |

Does your oil look like milk, and smell like the women's bathroom of a popular bar after a Friday night? |
Any updates. I have a revworks vented can as well and am also boosted. Seeing lots of fumes coming from under the hood when it's warmed up. It's been so Long since I really drove the car I can't remember if it's normal or not.

Efferalgan,
I was just cleaning my engine bay and noticed some oil on the underside of the charge pipe from the supercharger to the intercooler. The stuff was black and sticky and smelled more like traction fluid than oil or oil with fuel diluted in it. Anyway, when you found all that oil in your throttle body, are you sure it was motor oil and not traction fluid? Mine could be residue from the catastrophic failure last year as my traction fluid reservoir oil is crystal clear and no detectable loss from the fill in February. |

Here is apparently the cause of the oil vapor. 2 bent rods, probably have been for quite a long time. Damaged the block a bit. Not sure whether the crankshaft if OK. I bought a new engine to install forged components and set the CR at 10:1. Even a supercharger at 0.75 bar boost can bend the rods as you can see. All those who blow into stock blocks - be alert!

Sorry to hear that man. I hope the build goes well. I've got a couple of questions, if you wouldn't mind.
What tune and fuel were you running? Do you have any logs to show how well it was running? |
