Um guys? Scion's Own FT86 Coming to New York Show Next month?
http://www.autoblog.com/2011/03/10/r...-aut/#comments
Um is there any credit to this post here? I saw it and I spilled my coffee all over my desk. I hope it's not some random toned down version >__<!and I hope we still get a Toyota version. "More intriguingly is word that Scion will bring its own version of the FT-86 to the Big Apple's auto show, although don't expect a production version – this will be yet another concept similar to the version we saw at the Geneva Motor Show, just with new badges and a few stylistic tweaks." |
Scion or not, just make the damn thing :(
|
fuck me, another concept? FFS toyota just make it already.
|
just read it on autoblog as well. i'm surprised that autoblog would post this without sorting a source. to be honest, on another forum that i frequent, a poster who is known to be a toyota employee and a reliable source of info said the ft-86 might be shown with a scion badge and the interior displayed at the new york show. but i didn't want to be accused of spreading bs rumors..
|
Well then, you can say bye bye to 90% of buyer :bellyroll:
put the joke on the side. Not sure that resourse is creditable or not... but I can say this for sure. quarter of the comment here gonna say "WTF Toyota!" and other quarter gonna say "O'well, I gonna change the emblem to Toyota anyways". & quarter gonna say "I'll wait for Subie" and last quarter gonna say "That's BS! That site don't have any credibility!" |
Honestly I think I just need a moment to Adjust my thinking because I feel that the culture is dying. The ones that do friday night meets in a parking lot to talk about cars, car clubs that aren't super high end like a Porches club. If this car help revives the culture. That had been utterly destroyed by the dumb kids who would street race and kill people by not taking their cars to a track. If This Scion wakes up Honda,Mazda, and Nissan to bring back affordable 2+2 that is fun to drive.
Then Hell I'll buy one and Be all for it..... Except...I'm waiting on the Subie XD |
i am going to buy a plane ticket to new york, attend the auto show, walk to the scion area, pull my pants down and release my urine on the scion concept...
.......if this is true |
Hmm does anyone else think that the Toyota guys Upstairs might be like "Who care, we just need to release the car. People will buy it no matter what we badge it"

i don't believe it. i'll wait for the major auto shows and see what they bring. this speculation is annoying, at best.
|
I stopped reading shortly after RUMORMILL...
|
If this is true, then I can only conclude that Toyota (with Subaru) believe that they must have a concept car for each % of "production readiness"
"Release the 70% production-ready concept! Next the 75% one. Then the 80% one..." "Sir, why so many concepts?" "Because people don't care about the real thing--They only care about the concepts, don't you get it man!!!!!" |
Lol I love one of the comments from that site:

How about badge this car as Scion, Toyota, Subaru, Lexus, Yamaha, Daihatsu and Hino?
Every one should happy with their favorite brand name. |
as much as I like denying the fact that it might be badged as a scion here in the states, it might be true strictly due to business.
Scion in the states was meant for young buyers...to evoke toyota quality using another channel and hope that when these Y and X gen buyers grows older, they will be loyal to toyota or lexus brand. Another thing I see is because Scion is a no haggle, no negotiating policy when buying cars...so to offset the cost of production (although it is shared with subaru) and maximize revenue, toyota will badge it as scion to reep in the greens. Although on the front end they say its meant for "car enthusiasts" they don't really care if it is indeed that group of people buying the FT86 or not...nor do they care if they are female or male...as long as the money comes in. i do admit that the idea, platform and engine layout is more for the gearheads and its just another channel for toyota to reep benefits with TRD and work with other modding companies. but if normal ppl buy the car to buy groceries with it then so be it, toyota doesn't care...reap in the money and maximize channels for revenue for the vehicle sorry...kinda went on a rant...no flaming please. just my thoughts. |
Maybe a petition begging Toyota to badge this thing properly is in order.
|
I'm hoping this means
Scion - 200HP NA Toyota - 250HP Turbo |

Not to completely hate on scion but.. I'd like my car to be a Toyota. Ya'know like.. back in the days when scion was never a brand name. :bonk: |

i am not sure if they will cannibalize the tC's sales...but i do think Toyota wants to expand it's scion line up. IMHO, I think Toyota will differentiate the FT86 from the tC so greatly that it will be comparing apples to oranges. and this might sound immature to say, but I think it might be differentiated like how the Celica and Supras were when they were together...but not to that extreme. also, the speculated price will probably be 5-6k more than a tC.
well, we have 1.5 months before NYAS...i am crossing my fingers AND toes that it will remain a toyota...but in all honestly, if the performance is there, interior is good, styling remains fairly the same, price is fair...i don't see why would people not buy it. |
They better not make it look boxy.....
ToyotBLAH: NOW HERE IT IS...... SCEON FNOOB-87 WITH A BOXER ENGINE AND IT LOOKS LIKE A BOX!!!!!! You article writing fools better not quote me dont flame me! |

With the Scion scenario we are talking maybe a 20 hp difference, probably less torque (will feel less powerful to clueless test-drivers), probably a smaller engine, being sold for more money by a company that caters to performance noobs. How's that going to fly for sales? Edit: 1000! Probably of which 700+ are similar anti-Scion rants... |
... we could all just wait for the Subie Im sure that wont be badge SCION ;D

someone should go to Japan corp and riot to have the ft86 here to be 100% toyota and not scion. |
Not that I want a Scion, but this may help keep the price down for people like OldSkool, that want a cheap RWD NA.
For me, its still too early to tell anything. I'll wait for the final models and specs to roll out before I make my final call. |
Let me ask everyone here...
Would you rather a Scion FT-86 that lives up to it's hype and name and performs well? Or a Toyota FT-86 that is a failure, maybe over priced, and underpowered? (Just curious, if it was me I'd go for the Scion. Maybe the brand would get a new name) |

Over on NASIOC, there was a person who claimed to be a friend of a Scion tech and that they were getting trained on the FT-86 at that time and that it would be coming as a Scion. Again this is now third hand information so take it as you will but it seemed like a credible statement being made and I assume techs would find out first.

I agree, because I hate Scion. But the thought popped in my head that the one in 1,000,000 chance they succeed with releasing it decently as a Scion may happen. And if it did, screw it then I'd go for the Scion. I asked the comparison to see how many people would be biased on the brand name alone. |

Scion is my last resort for this car, barring ridiculous pricing difference between it and a Subaru version. And, just because, if it comes out as a Scion I will be buying used so I don't have to deal with douchey sales reps, or adding a sales figure to their numbers. I'll find some Scion poseur who's unhappy with the car's lack of power (low-end torque) and that his 'first on the block' shine has worn off. I will lose respect for Toyota as I feel it is like they are putting a gun to my head (or more correctly dangling a really shiny rwd sports car of a carrot) to bend to their version of marketing/branding. I may also think about dropping that money between mods to my daily Legacy and the Supra, if the only 'choice' I get is a Scion. |

And it's not that much impossible. If the car is launching really successfully outside America first (as a Toyota naturally), and performs really well, then that's great. But it's still possible that America decides to put it under the Scion name. Quote:

It seems to me that the car was shown everywhere else in the world as a Toyota, and it got good responses.
Yet when the show comes to America, the plans change to show it under Scion. Seems to me that Toyota is either fishing for responses on this, or that Toyota NA feels that the Toyota name in America should remain family friendly and that the sports car should be under Scion. |
I will not buy this car as Scion. And other buyers won't either. Toyota is just completely clueless.
|
I just dont see how you can honour a toyota classic and badge it something else but its just a badge I still want the car (with concept 1 rear end please)
|
I don't mind buy Daihatsu badge as long it's a inexpensive and high quality car.

All I care for is that it performs to the expectations of what Toyota said it would and more. If KIA was to make a really good RWD sports car I would also consider it just like I consider the Gencoupe. 5 years ago I would talk crap about both of those companies but now I'm 26 years old and it's time to grow the fuck up. I stopped being a badge enthusiast a long time ago but I see a ton of them on this site and it's so funny because Scion is still Toyota no matter how you slice it. |
