I think I found a pretty good way of explaining why I got this car....
At 45 seconds is where you can see why I purchased this car instead of a mustang.

I absolutely hate the stock wheels, they made the right choice changing them for the new my.

Professional driver on a closed course. Do not attempt.
|
A BRZ pulls up to the local gas station. Next to a Mustang pumping gas. The Mustang driver said to the BRZ driver" only 200 horsepower, uh". The BRZ driver said" yes out of a 2 liter, so you have a 5.0. Why dont you have 500 horsepower?"

Haha. I was a stoplight next to a mustang and a homeless man was walking to cars asking for money, he said "nice car man" to me but didn't say anything to the mustang. It was a brand new GT in white |
The Ford Mustang: Pretend Sports Cars for Trashy People
And folks, it's been this way for a long time. I was a teenager in the 80s. Every Friday and Saturday night an army of mullet-heads hit the strip in their shitty Mustangs trying to race anyone and everyone. When I was in teevee news in the 90s, a disproportionate share of the fatal accidents I covered involved Mustang drivers doing stupid shit. One guy back in Tallahassee actually ended up with his Mustang on its side, where he had rolled it onto his own head. |
Braking hard while turning or at an angle causes you to be tail happy in a RWD car and potentially spin out from the back..Do mustang drivers not realize their car is RWD?
|
Mustangs will go sideways, for example:

Yup, I've seen stuff like that. Anyways, the twins look so much better than the Mustangs. And there are many other reasons why I got a BRZ instead of a mustang, but the handling in the BRZ was one of them. |

I had a discussion (read as arguing with a hard headed mustang enthusiast) about whether the mustang was a sports car or not. He said 3500 lbs is the new norm since a bunch of porches weigh over 3000 lbs now and that the mustang GT handles well and has lap times that are better than most sports cars.. I was like ok bro... You do you and defend your mustang purchase. Who cares if it's a sports car or not. The GT spanks tons of cars, and that's all that should matter. Just don't call it a sports car |
I was just waiting for the OP to be "because I wanted it."
|
Huh. I had NO Idea Subaru even had a commercial for the brz
|
I can respect mustangs. I like them Alot but a majority of owners are just idiots. You have to do Alot to a Mustang to make it stand out and look good. Some of my friends are have one that always feel like their cars can't get legit respect at a meet because the whole stigma of owning a Mustang and because of the idiots that make them look bad.
|
I think probably a lot of mustang owners are just like us. They like driving. Probably easier to make big mistakes with a lot of power.
|
Sports cars can be muscle cars but not all muscle cars can be sports cars.

Not sure if either of them are official commercials endorsed by Subaru or not, though. |

If they liked driving, they would buy a driver's car. Even for those who track them, buying a noisy straight line car and spending tens of thousands to keep it from rolling over on a turn (or buying one already set up that way) doesn't give them a driver's car. Here's what that looks like vs. a real driver's car in the hands of a real driver: [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WCDOyhMFn8"]Michele Abbate - SCCA Western Conference Majors @ Pacific Raceways May 25th, 2015 - For The Win! - YouTube[/ame] Quote:

And power means a lot despite what people say. A racing driving is going to lap a mustang faster than a twin. Probably you and I would lap a mustang faster than a twin lol "The feels" of this car is great. But everyone enjoys their own kind of feel |
Quote:
For me, it's disgust with posers who buy something they think is cool and then try to pretend it's something it isn't. There's nothing wrong with straight line power. That can be a lot of fun. There is something wrong with buying a straight line car and pretending its a sports car, or worse, trying to convince everyone else that it's a sports car. There's also something wrong with acting like a douche in the car on public roads and smashing into other people who were minding their own business. Or rolling the car onto your own head. To be sure, there are some douchey people driving twins also, but not to the extent that you can set up on the side of the road and get video of three wrecks from drivers of the car acting like morons. |
That's not what I meant when I said elitist.
I bet if you went out polling 90%+ would identify a mustang as a sports car. IMO splitting hairs over the definition of sports car is silly. And to put down a group of enthusiasts over it is just... End of the day people buy a car and try to show it off and spend money on it because they like cars. And in that regard everyone has their own "cup of tea". |

But I really can't think of another group of "enthusiasts" with such an innate propensity for douchiness. Honda ricers and the brodozers come close, but the Mustang "culture" seems to be more pervasive and enduring. |
People using their cars for things you don't use your car for does not make those people not car people.
It would be more fitting to say something like "There are a lot of people who buy mustangs for the image, versus the driving experience," rather than "Mustang drivers don't like driving because they didn't buy the best handling car available." |

why are car enthusiasts so tribal? It's pathetic. Why can't you appreciate both cars? or all cars for that matter. Why does everyone these days want to feel like a special-snowflake of some in-group and to pretend they are special and better than everyone else. |

First, I said nothing about Camaros. I don't recall anybody talking about Camaros. Second, I'm not looking down on the Mustangs. They're not great cars, but they're not terrible either. I'm looking down on the idiots who seem to be drawn to them. That's why your Camaro comment doesn't make much sense, because Camaros don't tend to attract douches the same way as Mustangs. Yes, there are douches attracted to a variety of cars. But Mustangs in particular are douche magnets. Quote:
