FT-86 Future Said to may include hybrid
According to AutoExpress:
http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/au...yota_coup.html I think its a case of crossed wires here personally. Maybe an MRS style hybrid in the future, but seriously doubt it for the 86. |
|
I wouldn't get a hybrid. Too expensive to replace the parts on it.
|
the original concept (FT-HS) was a 400hp hybrid....I wouldn't shoot down a hybrid rumor so fast....nor would I overlook the performance capabilities without seeing it in action....
|
As long as it doesn't flop like a CRZ I think it's not that bad. Rumor r rumor
|
Do we really need a new thread for every new rumor a magazine makes up?
There is no chance that this car will be either a) hybrid or b) a Scion. |

Isn't that what this forum is for, to communicate and discuss news about the 86? And how do you know a hybrid is not being considered as a spin off? FACT Toyota plan to release 15 hybrid/electric cars by 2015. What's to say one won't be based on the 2.0 boxer??? |
I HOPE toyota releases this as a hybrid. And as many other versions as possible...The more money they can make from this car the more they are likely to make more sports cars in the future...PERIOD

Face it, it's still a concept at this stage and we hardly get anything official. If you don't like the thread move on. At least I don't keep banging on about scion etc in every thread like some do. :) |

When you've been here posting since '09 then different story, but when you have been member here? Again, you're stating you speculation. You don't have a proof. Yes, I do agree, I wish that this car won't come out hybrid or Scion... but that's just my opinion and not a fact. |
I wouldn't be shocked if there was a hybrid option, but wouldn't a battery pack add a decent amount of weight?
|
I think today is recycle day for stale rumors from last year.

Look, id much rather not go down the hybrid route until absolutely necessary, but face facts, things are heading in this direction. I cant personally see it happening for the 86, but in my opinion I could see Toyota doing a watered down version of something along these lines http://gazoo.com/racing/english/grmn...detail_shc.asp in the not to distant future. |

@Mk4UmHa Hybrid is the future. Electric is another step ahead. Whether you like it or not, you have to accept that future sport cars will be powered by electricity. Look at Tesla, you will have some idea of the future sport car. |
Hybrid should help the car pass emission standard.
|
Hybrid might be handy if they pair it with the normal performance FT-86, so that it just drives the car when not in "performance mode".
This would require that the car is still the same core car, much like the 2009 Camry Hybrid still uses the same engine as the normal Camry so it's still decently "quick" (for a Camry). Unfortunately, I doubt this would ever be a reality for the simple fact that adding in a Hybrid motor and batteries would add a significant amount of weight to the car. |

I disagree completely about hybrid sports cars being the future since the only good ones name have 100k+ price tags and the only low budget hybrid sports car the CR-Z is a failure in every aspect of hybrid and sports car.

Not only that, but I do not believe there as a single battery that will last for a decent amount of time and still hold a decent amount of charge. |
They can make biodiesel. Does anyone know if they can make bio-gasoline?

My friend runs his Super Duty off of straight used motor oil (filtered down to 2 microns though). He said though that biodiesel wasn't too impressive. Still it ran. Personally I'd like to see a diesel hybrid, diesel sports car (think turbo), and a diesel bike. Hell, why don't they make straight up electric motorcycles? You can't say they are too heavy to move with an electric engine... |
I mean bio-diesel is refined from vegetable oil instead of mineral oil. Gas is refined from mineral oil too, so could they refine gas from vegetable oil?
If not, I would go for bio-ethanol. More power-friendly in a form I recognize (ie not diesel). |
No.
Hydrogen Fuel Cells are the future of automobiles! |

Yes! That Hydrogen RX-8 is sweet! There are a few others too, no? Honda FCX Clarity comes to mind. Having water as a waste product? Sounds good to me.
Edit: LOL! Moogle on treadmill? |
