Wheel weights...to balance them

jawn 03-29-2016 10:26 PM

Wheel weights used for balance.

Woh there buddy,
Not sure if trolling or ....you know.....;)

How about I play a little game.
Are you under 20?
Single child?
Both parents still in the picture?
Google much?
Are you a female?

You don't have to answer but.... You know ;)

They are wieghts for wheel balancing. There are two types. Those you are wondering about and ones that crimp on the lip of the rim.

"What are these square tiles on the inside of the rims?"

That's how the Federal Govt. gets a hold of you ...if your phone locator is turned off.

It allows them to weigh in.

justatroll 03-29-2016 11:38 PM

You can just take those things off..... less unsprung weight.

In fact it probably makes a bigger difference in the 1/4 mi than a Light Weight crank pulley.

Speck 03-29-2016 11:48 PM

They're an eyesore so I usually peel them off

Google exactly.. what?!

"What are the square tiles on the inside of rims" - nothing
"What are the square blocks on the inside of rims" nothing

Google is only so handy when you know what you want to research. Seems like you're the one constantly trolling my threads with negativity.

Anyways, Mr.Google expert, what exactly should I have typed in to get the answer I was looking for?

https://www.google.com/search?q=meta...side+car+wheel

"metal squares inside car wheel"

Google is pretty smart if you only give it the relevant key words.

Woh, hold on there batman.

You call that trollin? Woh. Has the bar been lowered, if so I never got the memo.

I didn't mean to come off "negative" but if I replied to more than on post of yours I didn't mean to target only you. In fact I had no idea I replied to your other posts.

But really, it's a silly question a child asks. Thus my lame attempt of making jokes about answering questions. Or......your really freaking high. Sometimes I been guilty of that. Drunken post are fair game.

But in all fairness just like in the corporate job market "there is never a stupid question".
You'll just end up as the guy that asked them.

Funny thing now is that if you google "what are the square tiles on the inside of rims" this thread is the first search result.

In all fairness your search terms were pretty damn close. I wouldn't know what to look for either. It's one of those "damned if you do(ask) damned if you don't(don't learn what they are)" situations

I cant believe this shit is real

Do I give up or keep hoping it will get better??

There are no dumb questions just dumb threads. Stuff like this people need to learn that google is your friend.

Sometimes you just can't think of the right key words to search on Google.

So long as you tried. A lot of stuff is common knowledge to car people but it's the silly stuff, like wheel weights, that get overlooked cuz we've always known. To someone just learning it's tough when everything is so technical and the simple stuff is just assumed that you already know. Just do your best searching in the future and if that doesn't work then ask and there should be at least one person on here who will try to help. Ignore the rest. It's the same everywhere, not just here

jasonojordan 03-30-2016 11:01 AM

Ill just leave it at this.

Usually a Google search is very helpful to the novice, often even a link to a video tutorial.

Example: "What are Muffler Bearings ?"

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQspesBGpBg"]How To change your Muffler Bearings - YouTube[/ame]

I know the wheel weights have been identified...

But, for future searches. Google does not need "filler words" Also add specific descriptors. what kind of rims? = AUTO.

Example:
Your words: What are the square blocks on the inside of rims
try something more like: square blocks inside AUTO rims

bcj 03-30-2016 02:14 PM

What is the distinction between rims and wheels anyways? Is "rims" just the "cool"way to say wheel? Can't be a real distinction right?

rim is the outer most part of a wheel. rim is designated as the tire bead part "J" flange.

that's why when people use rim, I usually as "just the rims or the whole wheel?"

I figured it was just semantics but I've seen people make fun of "rims" but I didn't see how they could possibly be different

RichardsFRS 03-30-2016 03:01 PM

Balance weights. They used to put them on the outer rims till rims got nicer

its just one of those things you usually grow out of when you're more educated/older/wiser.

like the whole clips vs magazines in terms of guns.

rims just make you seem uneducated, and ignorant on the subject and gives off the impression that your daily vocabulary consists of "suhhhh dude" "ya vape bro?" combinations of the word "bro" in every pause of a regular sentence, social media "buzz words" and general teenage slang.

...and that's why it's fucking annoying to use rims.

churchx 03-30-2016 03:03 PM

i guess problem of 'wheels' might be that it's a bit more generic word. For example, also steering wheel / flywheel and alikes, that may mix in results. Maybe that's the reason if rims return more focused results?
As for cool or not .. it's just which term is more widely used in which country. One thing is US, another UK, for example. Wheels-rims, tyres-tires, header-manifold .. many generic terms may differ.

no because each of those examples have a rim because a rim from the dictionary says:

rim1
rim/Submit
noun
1.
the upper or outer edge of an object, typically something circular or approximately circular.
"a china egg cup with a gold rim"
synonyms: brim, edge, lip
"the rim of her cup"

jasonojordan 03-30-2016 03:17 PM

Can we please start calling rims(wheels) brims if we cant just call them by their proper name :)
