sound tube and changed expectations

so today i pulled that little cig light plug out of the glovebox and plugged up the sound tube and then went on a favorite drive of mine. and i'll say that i never thought that i would feel this way but i immediately missed the additional sound into the cabin. i felt a little less connected to what was going on and i also had a harder time telling exactly how fast i was going based on ear going through the twisties. if i ever decided to remove the sound tube or went FI and had to get rid of it, i would likely have to get a catback to replace some of that sound.

i'm just glad its not a speaker output sort of thing like they have in the mustang or bmws, but they sure did it for a reason.

I don't miss the engine noise. Mainly because I installed a catback and the engine noise was overpowering the exhaust at high RPMs.

I'm gonna try this on mine. I just did a fairly long (200 mile) mostly highway drive and the BRZ cabin is LOUD. Had a slight headache lol.

I plugged mine once I supercharged my brz, little to no difference. I also have headers so the headers sound kind of replaces the sound. Adds vibration to the cabin, race car noises and feels. 10/10 would recommend

I installed the K&N drop in filter and Perrin inlet tube, sound has been intensified.
AFTER the sound tube and OE intake run was removed.
Me likey

Plugging that sound tube was the best mod I have done to the car. Made the engine sound like a tractor. Now plugged the inside is much more quiet and the car seems more refined.

I have no trouble hearing the engine.

Yeah, I've been plugged since the first week. Don't miss that noise at all.

I don't miss the wailing banshee.

Rest in peace, wailing banshee.

I'm the opposite. I plugged the hole and could hear my q300 more than the engine, which makes me feel bad since I hate loud exhausts :bonk:. I unplugged it and hear the engine more than the catback and like it that way I guess

Lol I couldn't imagine you running an N1 or Tomei 60 then! :bellyroll:

plugged from the get-go. my perception is that the remaining cabin noise is a equal mix of tires, exhaust and lack of deadening. I hope to muffle them one at a time.

Haha, I know. I do have a catless front pipe+overpipe+headers though, so it's louder than a car with only a q300. Cold starts are brutal as well :(

Tbird232ci 03-29-2016 03:48 PM

I did a K&N and an intake tube with no sound tube provisions. Makes a better sound and is much more consistant sounding.

NyC Zn6 03-29-2016 03:51 PM

Hey at least the sound is not pumped through our speakers lol

Poodles 03-31-2016 04:07 AM

I don't mind the growl sound, but it droned a bit on the highway so it got plugged.

The TRD air intake also removes the sound tube, it sounds much better with an intake and filter and exhaust mods, in fact after anything is added the sounds tube becomes too much anyway
