Bump. I'd like to see some dampers made for the hood too.

Lonewolf 07-01-2012 01:35 PM

Waiting on someone in the Michigan area to work with a company to get these made...

Redline tuning will have a set sometime soon. They used my frs for the test car and they are in the process of having custom brackets made so it will be a complete bolt on kit......not drilling. It will be a dual shock kit as well. Looked awesome when they mocked it up. Hopefully they will have some more info soon on a ETA and I'll pass it along to everyone.

Don't understand why they weren't standard. Can't be that heavy.

GenkiElite 07-01-2012 06:04 PM

Isn't the hood aluminum? A bad damper could easily end up with a bent hood when trying to close it.

Proud of BOXER 07-01-2012 06:33 PM

Another reason is that hood dampeners don't open the hood as far as a prop rod. Toyota and FHI made it a point to have 2 settings for the hood for those who need to get under it. Also, Subarus aren't known for having hood struts. I don't think any FHI car has one from the factory.

The hood will open to its full standard height as it sits on the hood prop.

As soon as I hear from them to come in for the final test fit I will let everyone know.

kndonlee 07-02-2012 11:22 AM

Typically for light hoods, the dampers that come are slow-expanding dampers so they don't slam open the hood upon opening it up.

My buddy's GTR had dampers that did exactly that.

I have been trying to find FRS owners that have them but can't find any reviews... Someone needs to get a set and do a write up!

FALSE. The prop rod doesn't hold the hood open as far as the dampers. Think about it, you have essentially 2 hinges on the back of the hood. you raise the hood up PAST where the prop goes and rest it on the prop. The shocks can actually open the hood farther than the prop.

And, from the looks of installed pics, they will not be in the way like the hood prop is.

i know that Greddy and another company called Gimmick

gimmik makes some

I purchased a set of JDM from ebay (Racing Trendz - black) and they are very easy to install and work perfectly. Included only Japanese instructions and I think they were manufactured in Japan. Hood opens further than using the rod.

Cirtcuit sports in socal is making hood props and should be available in the next few weeks. When I get a chance, I will post some pics of the test fit on my car.

Hit up the sales people at www.phase2motortrend.com. If anyone is interested, maybe I can see if we can get a group buy going and get a great deal on these!

86_ZN6 08-10-2012 03:29 AM

Can we get a close up pic of the brackets?

Thanks!

peenut1086 08-10-2012 03:31 AM
