Water in reverse lights

I washed my car this morning and found water inside my reverse lights when I was waxing this afternoon. Keep an eye out for this boys and girls, It could be another issue...

I haven't noticed any taillight condensation yet. For what it is worth, and if anyone is keeping track, my car is #2955.

Not sure if serial matters that much as mine was in the 3000s and I had bad tail lights. I'm going to go check my reverse now

Genomaxter 06-30-2012 07:45 PM

Take your car to the dealership and have them replace it. Its a known issue with the car. I got mine replaced with no hassle. My passenger side tail light had water in it as well.

Not true, my Bentley is a turd. The center caps don't even spin with the wheel. How cheap can they get!

Try using a leaf blower to blw the water out, also the front grill.

Yea, that is a known issue for early productions. There is a thread. The team has determined it was a production line issue. Rear light housing for some cars were cracked during production when tightening the screws. There is actually a document issued to the dealerships from Toyota regarding this.

Before going the leaf-blower route, I'd just take it to the dealer and have them fix it.

He said reverse lights. Reverse lights are not in the tail light on this car. This is the first report I have seen of water in the reverse light.

I see.. Sorry for ignoring that.

roddy 07-04-2012 02:09 AM

There's nothing in the taillights yet, just the reverse lights way down at the bottom of the bumper. I remember seeing the post on the taillight condensation/water issue, but not on this one. That's why I posted.
If there is already a thread about water in the reverse lights, I'm sorry, I must have missed it...

Sigh-on-Rice 07-05-2012 02:36 AM

I just washed the car today and noticed there is some water at the bottom of the reverse light. I then looked closer and found out that the water actually was in between the reverse light and the plastic piece (part of defuser). It really looks like the water is inside of the reverse light. I was wondering the OP might have seen what I saw.

roddy 07-05-2012 07:35 AM

I'll double check next time I wash, but the dealer that sold me the car has seen it as well, and thought the same as me. It does seem odd that a simple wash could cause water to get in there though.

Sorry for bringing this from dead but i also noticed few drops of water inside of reverse light as well. anyone else does have this problem? replacement is fine?

frslee 05-07-2013 02:58 PM

If dealer replaces with "REVISED" part, then I wouldn't worry about this problem in the future.
If they replace with exact same part, I would take the new part apart and put some extra gasket.

When i wash my car again, i will take few pictures then send Dealer pictures before i drive them. So I don't waste my time and gas that they have to order part if they dont have it in stock

Are you 'double-dipped' sure that it is inside of reverse light or simply a reflection from a droplet sitting inbetween the black 'diffuser' housing and the clear reverse light area? This is suggested above, and I too thought that there may be water in the reverse light until closer inspection.

i am glad i am not the only one.
I think few water is entering top part of housing.
I wouldnt visit dealer for this since it's like an hour away and probably this problem reappears.

I will probably put some weather strip / seal on top part of housing later when my time is free.

Mine gets condensation in the tails when I wash it, I noticed the plastic around the reverse lights is not sealed at all but I haven't noticed water inside yet.

Mine were replaced under the service bullentin after I reported them last month..

annnnnd now we're still getting condensation :( I'm considering removing and sealing them myself. A little silicone never hurt anything.

zc06_kisstherain 05-08-2013 12:15 PM

no offense but can we stay in topic on REVERSE LIGHT HOUSING? not TAIL LIGHT HOUSING

zc06_kisstherain 05-09-2013 10:18 AM

ok. since NJ/NY area is having rain, i checked mine and see other water droplet inside reverse light housing again. i am planning to take off housing this saturday and do either weather rubber around edge or seal. I will keep it updated.
