Best Rearview Back Up Camera Q's
Hello all,
i was looking for a good rearview backup camera for my 2015 subaru brz (stock head unit). i want a good quality one which hopefully has the green red yellow tick marks to show how close i am getting and one that works well at night time as well. Ive looked at this one from FTEIGHTYSIX http://www.fteightysix.com/new-produ...backup-camera/ http://www.fteightysix.com/oe/beat-s...ru-head-units/ Any suggestions? not necessarily looking for the cheapest option, i am more concerned with factory OE plug and play quality! thank you John |
I have a Rydeen Duo and it is pretty cheap (around $70) with solid construction. though, it is not exactly PnP since you have to drill a hole in your trunk garnish to mount it. They do sell a PnP harnesses though; I bought my harness at Auto Harness House for $30. you don't need a reverse trigger since the BRZ already has one from the factory.
my Rydeen Duo has noticeably better picture than my mom's GLK350 back up camera. I think it's one of the best priced cameras out there since the body is full metal and heavy, while the picture is great as well. |

the BRZ radio has the lines built into the radio itself so you'll want to follow the instructions to disable the ones from the camera itself or you will get overlapping lines |

Big big big fan of this guy. I'm running it on a Homelink mirror though so I had to hack it up and solder connections, but this should be pretty much plug and play if you're using a factory headunit. You can disable the parking lines if you want in case the monitor you're using has it's own built in ones. |

is there a difference between this and the beat sonic harness i posted? or works exactly the same. and we don't need that extra 2 dollar reverse trigger correct? 2015 brz |

You don't need the reverse trigger. The accuracy of the lines depends on your mounting location. I placed mine in the trunk fascia in the OEM location as per this thread: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17020 The lines aren't dead center, but if you use a reference (i.e. a curb or a parking block) you can adjust the lines so you can gauge your distance. I use my backup camera to gauge the distance of things to the rear and not for actual parking alignment. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...7&postcount=12 I set my lines more towards the bottom corner towards the right and I have it so that the red crosshair dead center to the reverse light and when it's aligned with a parking block, my car is 1 foot away. The camera setup works great at night, as the reverse lights provide sufficient lighting for the camera to pickup. Night visibility may even be improved if you have brighter reverse lights. |

Rydeen Duo's price, quality build and OEM looks can't be beat. I just installed it in my '15 BRZ and it is worth to go the extra mile and drill the hole for it in the stock location.
The red yellow green lines come from the head unit and can't be disabled, so you need a camera without guides or which allows you to disable them like the Duo. |

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17020 You should read the whole thing if interested in using this cam. This specific post #157 has added pictures: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...&postcount=157 Regarding the harness I used the PAC CAM-TY11 harness from amazon. I also gave feedback on it on post #316 of the same thread: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...&postcount=316 |

What about this? Does this have everything to be plug and play? |

I bought this one and installed it today. I have absolutely no experience with stuff like this, nor with running wires and found it very straight toward and easy. I had an issue feeding a cable at first, but realized I was feeding the wrong cable.. It's pricey, but I like it. My only issue is that it points down only, you can't see anything above |
I just installed this camera

The camera picture quality is surprisingly good. You can also disable the lines built into the camera. Install took about 2-3 hours. The most time consuming process was guiding the camera cables through the rubber grommets and parts of the trunk (use coat hanger). The whole setup cost me about $50. |
I've been wanting to put a camera in the BRZ and I think this thread just settled it! I'll do some more research based on this thread!

On the Rydeen website they have a lot of different models of cameras and I can't really tell the difference. |
After doing research, it looks like the Rydeen Duo is 'old hat'. Are there any cameras that are newer that are just as good?

a) Since it has been out a while, is there anything that's better than the Rydeen that's come out since? b) Since the Rydeen has been out on the market a while now, I'm more concerned about getting a knock-off. It looks like the only 'known-legit' place that still sells it is als-eds. |

Im actually looking at this camera right now, its fairly cheap compared to the rydeen. And being in canada, rydeen will be alot expensive. Can I use the harness from either the pac ones or the other harness? Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk |
I bought the Auto Harness House harness and a Rydeen Duo is on its way. Let's see how this install goes!

anymore input on the rydeen / tips with install? things not to do?

Also, which harness did you buy? EDIT: Wow, it doesn't ship to where I live, Canada. Anyone know if this is any good? https://www.amazon.ca/Car-Rover-Rear...productDetails |

I did a lot of research, and this turned out to be an awesome plug and play kit - a little pricey but I was looking for as close to OEM as possible, and this is it. The camera is heavy in your hand - just feels like a solid piece, and the image is amazing. A funny - I thought I'd f**ked the install somehow though - first reverse test showed me the top of a 60' tree in my yard and a shitload of blue sky. No worries - trunk was open. Whew! |

So far the camera is good, no complaints. I've taken the car through a no touch high pressure wash and no problems. The camera is nice because it doesn't fog up, so you can still back up if your rear window is fogged/iced in the morning. Also it's so cheap that if it does break, it wouldn't break my bank to buy a new one. I'm using the autoharnesshouse.com harness. It was plug and play, no splicing. |
I just installed the raydeen duo to my aftermarket head unit. Build quality is really good and no complaints about the picture quality. I think picture quality of all of these are about the same so really your paying more for the build quality. Also, keep in mind that some of these come with the parking lines and some do not. The raydeen has the ability to turn the lines off by connecting two wires. This is good if your head unit already has the lines.

The most difficult part of the install was guiding the camera wire through the trunk (metal coat hanger) and getting the end of the camera plug through the rubber trunk grommet. I'd recommend using some type of lube fore that, as the grommet is VERY narrow (insert sex joke). Also if you ever thought about installing a factory sub/oem audio plus, it would be a good time to do so, since you'd be using the same wiring route. |

Installing backup camera is not hard as you think.
Finished installing mine. Installed backup camera with 2 parking sensors attached. Total cost was $50 with hardness. That rubber grommet on trunk is no joke. I gave up and zip-tied my wires. BTW FR-S don't come with trunk lid liner? Its bare metal on mine. I need to find way to tuck in my wires. |
