Rear parking sensor

Hi guys, got my rear bumper changed and after I changed it the parking sensors started working erratically, basically they can't be trusted anymore, what in your opinion happened

wireman957 03-05-2016 07:18 PM

We don't have those here. We call our rear parking sensors "exhaust tips", "defuser" or simply "back bumper"

Eighty 6 03-05-2016 07:43 PM

They just standard rear parking sensors that u find on a corrolla or something, it still beeps sometimes when I reverse and sometimes it does nothing. Used to work fine before they changed the bumper

Eighty 6 03-05-2016 07:44 PM

I sort of got used to having them

Just check your wire connections and the bumper isn't wobbling. Should be pretty simple a fix I would guess.

Eighty 6 03-05-2016 07:52 PM

I hope they don't need to dismantle the bumper again

humfrz 03-05-2016 08:55 PM

Most likely a lose wire or a bad ground.......

I'd suggest you take it back to whoever replaced the bumper and ask them to fix it.

Well I spoke to the guy in charge of bodywork at Toyota and explained to him whats happening, says its probably because I paint protected it and the covers of the sensors got covered in the application, pretty straightforward, they need to be cleaned and re installed

BRZnut 03-06-2016 08:29 AM

Since when do our cars have these??????

Not sure I buy that.
My GT86 was delivered with parking sensors, and I had the car coated with Ditec.
The rear bumper has since been taken off, repainted and re-coated with Ditec, and the sensors still work just fine.

I don't think even the high spec BRZs or the !0/Monogram/RS have them here.

Actually, I think it's a generic Toyota option.
The sensors look identical on all Toyota models, and the beeping sounds are identical too.
So the dealer probably just paint the plastic covers and install the same wires and stuff on all models :iono:

It's a crutch anyway; just like backup cameras, if you learn to drive properly you really don't need them.
(I used to say that about ABS back when only new&expensive cars had them. Changed my mind a few years later.)

I don't think the US version has the rear parking sensor, cause I checked on Build your Scion, and that's not even an option for the FRS, 2016 and up has a standard backup camera instead from what I heard.

I know that certain Toyota US model has that option tho.

So its probably everyone else except US options lol, good to know at least you guys had those option.

Those sensors are handy, the car is so low you could easily do some damage on a curb, and the front end is worse, I still park it and when I get out I notice that ive gone over the curb but luckily didnt hit the spoiler, I wish I had sensors at the front end as well, I asked but they looked at me like id landed from the moon so I assume no one has those

Yeah I dont know what happened, I coated mine with another brand (trying to remember), but I think they repainted those sensor covers because I managed to change the whole TRD kit on the car since there was a slight difference in color, they sent me a new kit from Japan ( I actually saw the boxes), they repainted the sensor covers though to match the crystal white, looks great but im assuming thats the problem

extrashaky 03-06-2016 03:34 PM

People really have difficulty backing up to park a car this small?

I've had rentals with the annoying beeping. I'd rip that shit right out if it came in my own car.

Yeah, I guess a second coat of paint may be a problem.
The sensor covers should be cheap enough to start with a fresh set if the color doesn't match.

Who said anything about having difficulties? Are you barking up imaginary trees?
