2016 OTA (Ontario Time Attack) Pricing and Schedule
Here's a quick rundown on the 2016 season:
For your best price you should attend the JRP Open House on April 2nd. This is also a GREAT opportunity to talk to some of the veterans of the series and get any questions you might have answered! If you cannot attend that, then you can also register for regular pricing at MotorsportReg.com in a few weeks time when we open registration. The last price is the walk-in price. Also note that the lapping is all day for non-event/school and half a day for event days. http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/u...psq4iegaox.jpg DDT = CTMP Driver Development Track which is located less than one hour east of Toronto, ON MIR = CTMP Mosport International Raceway which is the "big track" less than one hour east of Toronto, ON SMP = Shannonville MotorSports Park is located less than two hours east of Toronto near Belleville, ON TMP = Toronto Motorsports Park Which is less than one hour south of Hamilton, ON |
I'm looking to get into some open lapping so for example, I want to go to the June 26th @ MIR, so it would cost me $95.00 to get in?
Sorry if it's a noob question. |
Yes, but it's only two guaranteed sessions in the morning at MIR. Lapping on event days ends at noon for all events, MIR has a higher chance of running late from a single big off track excursion so they build in more buffer time.
MIR is also not a good track to start lapping on, you'll want to have a few days on a more forgiving track first. If you haven't done any lapping at all, you'll want to do a school first. Lapping with OTA requires sign off since you're out on track with competitors, if it's the first time you've driven on a track you aren't likely to be signed off. If you're looking for a good first track experience, the DDT school is good. There will also be some ATTS days run by SPDA coming up that are more beginner friendly. June 11th and July 17th are the first two ATTS dates, both on the CTMP DDT. |
Good to know.
Thanks! |

Subscribing!
First timer here so based on the advice I'm in for DDT School |
It's a great school, I might be there instructing if I have time.

@wparsons,
Do you know how they are setting up the day? Will the the lapping take place during the morning practise sessions and the afternoon is for the timed events only, or will lapping take place at the end of the day? The reason I'm asking is if the car/driver are registered for the event are they included in the lapping or is the lapping extra for those that want extra track time? |

Lapping at competition events is morning only, most likely three 20 minute sessions. If you're signed up to compete you get morning lapping and afternoon competition runs. Everyone is guaranteed the same number of runs in the afternoon (caveat being there is no major incidents that shut down the track for an extended period of time), you don't have to qualify for the afternoon runs. |
Any fees for spectators?

At TMP you'll have to tell them you're there with OTA, the only other track that will even have someone at the gate asking is MIR. There might be alligator lapping at lunch at some of the events as well, which is basically follow the leader around the track. It's free, no helmets needed, and lets you drive your car (assuming it's not leaking fluids or droppings parts off it) around the track at safe speeds. |
@wparsons: What is the difference between Regular and Lapping? Thanks

At a school event (DDT or MIR), participants receive instruction while lappers are just getting lapping. Lapping on school event days is one session per hour (typically 20 minutes) all day. At a competition event, participants have morning lapping plus afternoon competition sessions (1 warm up lap, 3 hot laps to set a fast time and 1 cool down lap), lappers only get the morning sessions (again typically one 20 minute session per hour). |
Wish the ATTS days could be sooner. How do OTA School days compare to ones from SPDA? Are they divided by skill levels? Initial part covers in class theory while the rest is track time? Thanks
|
The OTA schools are broken out by experience, but have in class time mixed in throughout the day. You'll definitely learn more at the OTA schools. They're also geared to preparing you to enter their series safely while the SPDA days are more about just getting you out on the track to have fun lapping.

Thanks for this wparsons. I haven't been a Solo 1 competitor for almost 20 years... but remember this being a great crowd of people and a ton of fun. I don't have the time to compete in 2016, but hope to join in for lapping one or more days.
So if I want to 'just' do lapping on June 25th (and don't want to participate in the 'school') I'd pay $250, right? Do the organisers need to know, or do I somehow have to prove, my experience level for lapping only? Thanks! |

Lapping needs a quick checkout ride with an instructor if no one recognizes you, but as long as you're safe, predictable and understand flags you'll be fine! They'll probably only need a few laps, but will also likely give you a full session of tips if you want. |
Thanks for the info ... Wife will probably be instructing on the school days and I'll probably do the lapping.

I wept when I was told that I need a roll bar for my S2k ...
I've marked all the ATTS events though. Going for that one. Is there an official time record for DDT? I'd like to see how close I can get to it this year. I ran a 1:46.5xx last year and didn't feel like I got into a groove... tried to sign up for all the schools I can this year to get to that next level. Still sticking with the Michelin Pilot Super Sports (will be doing a massive road trip later on this year - need good tread life!) and stock OEM alignment. Will I get to chase you around the track @wparsons? Always fun to have a chase or be chased :D |
Say... silly question, but how does one pay the entry fee for the June 25th lapping event? I've signed up using MotorsportReg, but it wouldn't take payment... happy to go for free (!!), but assume someone wants some money somewhere and I don't want to turn up and find out I'm not actually registered!

I'm not sure if I'll be there instructing or not, it'll depend on registrations and if I can get away for the day. Quote:

First school is coming up and there are still a couple spots left. If you're looking at getting into time attack, or even lapping in general, this is a great school.
