When will we see the facelift revealed?

Not much news out since the announcement of Scion closing shop. Any chance we see the facelift soon? New York auto show maybe?

RichardsFRS 02-26-2016 07:16 AM

WTF

raven1231 02-26-2016 07:32 AM

Sure there is a chance. Then again there also is a chance we won't.

go_a_way1 02-26-2016 09:01 AM

My face is hurting almost as much as my palm lately. Honestly I think MY 17 when they are branded as Toyota will be the perfect year for them to come out with the new body style but thats just my speculation.

G-awesome 02-26-2016 03:14 PM

patience....young padawan.

Mr.Impreza 02-26-2016 03:24 PM

I've also been thinking the same thing. If they don't change anything for 2017...than man sales will go down even more. 2016 already hasn't been a great year for sales as it is.

that_one_guy 02-26-2016 03:49 PM

I feel MY 2017 will be the last for the twins. They might release something similar to the FRS as a Toyota but be priced starting around $28k and have a convertible option. They for sure will not release this exact same car as a Toyota, that would be a brand positioning nightmare.

MisterSheep 02-26-2016 04:03 PM

This is finally a good topic to talk about:) we've been getting the "OMGZ WHY SCION NO MOAR" threads.

I'm with @go_a_way1 on this one and believe that the MY17's branded as Toyotas will be the best opportunity to finally put the new facelift in affect. Unfortunately we haven't seen much news beside the "leaked" photos so I'm afraid that it might not actually happen for MY17 as in roughly 6 months scion will be closing it's doors and maybe around October they would be releasing the Toyotas. Nothing officially has come out from Toyota so it might not actually happen and might actually have the projected facelift canceled?

The JDM 86 isn't on the Toyota Japan site, Usually they show the next MY in mid February. Maybe in March we will see it.

Leonardo 02-26-2016 05:27 PM

Prediction: It's going to cost 30k+ as a Toyota.

A pretty good and honest prediction.

Yeah, not trying to be negative, but they will add interior goodies and make it cost more.

Even though cars are coming with HID's stock... They're still illegal to have in CA.... Isn't that right @finch1750?

Certain CHP would like to argue so lmao

DAEMANO 02-26-2016 08:06 PM

Sorry guys, it'll be the same car just re-badged Toyota in late 2016 and 2017. A gently face and butt lifted car with new center console/HVAC shown in 2017 for a 2018 release - Full redesign shown in 2021 for 2022.

source: once again mah bootay.

Mim 02-26-2016 08:35 PM

@Tcoat mentioned this many times over the years. Every car has a fully planned out life cycle, spanning many years, that include when face lift / refreshes occur. Obviously they could not have foreseen termination of the Scion brand, but I honestly think Toyota USA will simply go for a Band-Aid fix for now, simply swap badges and be done with it.

Who knows, perhaps the swap in badging might make Toyota USA consider lifting spec, to match the same as those in its other markets, but that will obviously come at an increased price and from all the money related threads I've seen over the years, US byers are incredibly sensitive to the price of cars these days.

Sorry that was a little unrelated to the OP's main query. Searching for some of the past news articles I can see many happening from around May. I imagine its best left close to the last minute otherwise it will effect existing sales when people start holding off buying to get a refreshed / better spec'd update.

Mini Cooper S 02-26-2016 09:50 PM

They need to hurry up & show it I want to order one.

Thinking about it again also makes me think what Subaru will do. If it's just Toyota that gets the refresh, would Subaru get the same performance tweaks? They're made on the same assembly line.

Bristecom 02-27-2016 01:41 AM

I'm still hoping they'll do something at the (86th) Geneva Auto Show on March 3rd-13th. Either way, if we don't hear anything in March, then we might be screwed. LOL

Same car made in same plant, exterior will be 99% similar to the 86. But you never know.

raven1231 02-27-2016 11:53 AM

Release due at midnight tonight. Everyone keep your eyes peeled

Stop trolling. They are just going to tease, no full release.

*OK I shouldn't troll.

ashtray 02-27-2016 09:42 PM

Selling this car as a Toyota without changing any of the styling would be a huge mistake.

*looks at the global market for the GT86*

Uh - never mind. It seems they're already been selling this as a Toyota in every country besides the USA. ;)

raven1231 02-27-2016 10:10 PM

It's approaching...

I think there will be a refresh to mark its rebranding as a Toyota, but it will be all cosmetic - new bumpers, maybe different tail lights, and all the interior bells and whistles. That's my wager. ;)
