Pioneer Audio Upgrade?

I tried doing a search and didn't have any luck. But I could have sworn there was a review on the Pioneer Audio upgrade done for the Fr-s.

I have an HTC android phone and was wondering how my music would integrate with this system?

Any video reviews on this?

Calidrifter 06-28-2012 11:24 PM

Do you mean via BlueTooth?

It would just stream off of the store/play/music app on your phone. Setup is quick and easy.

Was this with the standard system? I know it has blue tooth but I am also curious if I can stream Pandora through my Android powered phone. I am not getting BeSpoke.

Yes, I have the standard stereo. From what I have heard the bespoke basically has all the same features as the standard HU but with touch interface, screen and Nav.

That's not the base headunit, so most likely yes. I have the stock headunit and I stream pandora every time I drive through a bluetooth connection. It works very well for me, stopping and starting when I get a phone call, or even if I check the radio (for a sports score).

What throws me off is that some of the posts on the forums claimed the BeSpoke is around 800$

Isn't BeSpoke catered only to iPhones or something?

It's currently only for iphones, but it will get an app for android phones at a later date. A first 86er had it briefly before they swapped it out for him and gave it the thumbs down. Really, the stock radio is great. If you really need nav use your phone, or spend half that ammount for a premium aftermarket headunit that isn't limited by your phone (bespoke is).

Silverdub 06-29-2012 12:32 AM

Oh didnt know i could see the album art and stuff going to look at it right now!

Edit: cant see it even if the option is turned on wtf

jflogerzi 06-29-2012 12:40 AM

I don't think the BeSpoke is worth it. Get the standard head unit and buy aftermarket in a few months. The stock head unit is not that bad. Does the job. I use my phone for navigation, and just stream Pandora or music from the phone. This way when my phone's navigation talks, the music will go quiet so I can hear the direction and pick right back up.

That is not the bespoke unit. Thr is the pioneer premium headunit.
Essentially what the "bespoke" replaced.

They look the same, bespoke has smart phone integration. This headunit is now discontinued I believe.

ScurrilousKnave 06-29-2012 10:47 AM

As stated above, this is not the BeSpoke unit. However, Cananda is not getting the BeSpoke unit. They are getting the above "Premium Pioneer" head unit for something about half of the price of the BeSpoke upgrade. I for one, would take this unit over both the stock unit and the BeSpoke unit as it has all the features I want and none of the "Cloud Nav" and other iPhone-only features. I have an Android and limited data plan, so no, I don't want to use my phone for my car radio.

maxdriver 06-29-2012 10:51 AM

The stock Pioneer unit for the USA is 300 watts, with streaming bluetooth. The Bespoke unit for USA does not have nav.

PoRco 06-29-2012 12:05 PM

I'm also pretty sure that Pandora is not available in Canada...

It's an internet website. How can it not be available in Canada?

EsoBOFH 06-29-2012 12:36 PM

The base unit works fine with Android for streaming, with a few quirks (always restarts the song, instead of pausing/resuming).

Phone wise, it's great for answering calls.. not so good for making them. My wifes $130 JVC bluetooth deck is leaps and bounds better than the scion base deck. It's terrible at handling calling and phone books, etc.

Yes JVC makes really good heads esp for mp3 file organization if you go with USB stick input. Mine (KD-HDR690) is $100 and it even comes with a 7 band parametric EQ.

Music licensing issues (see this article from March 2011: http://www.inquisitr.com/99726/hey-c...s-company-ceo/). And just because it's an "internet website" doesn't mean it's available everywhere. Sites and services can block or be blocked based on geographic location.

I'm leasing this car so I cant be getting any after market stuff... :(

At least I don't think I can...

It's not available in Canada. Just like Hulu isn't....

The states have restricted Pandora to only IP addresses that reside from the USA.

there are ways around the IP address issue, when i was overseas and i wanted to watch something from the US like HULU i installed http://hotspotshield.com/ onto my computer and Iphone which is give me a US IP address.. you can install it on your android and iphone, you need to turn it on before going into that site and you can stream pandora through your phone..

also BeSpoke is 845.00 at the dealer.. just find your local scion dealers website and look under Accessories>Accessories-Pricing>FR-S>Audio-Visual

PoRco 06-30-2012 12:50 PM

Yeap, I used hotspotshield around 3-4 years ago too. Doesnt seem worth the hassle for short trips anyway :P

Does anyone have this premium sound upgrade installed in Canada? I would like some info on it. The website is very lackluster

Thanks!

I'm taking delivery of a car with this head unit and the 'bongiovi' amp setup (hopefully this week)

I'll share my thoughts on it then.

Awesome!

Can't wait. Thanks a lot man :)

Have the car, no bongiovi option ( my mistake I thought it was going to come with it. Its just the Canadian upgraded Headunit factory installed) First off, check under system settings to make sure the car profile is set to FR-S, I doubt its on the PDI listing to check it but it defaults to TC. You get some white noise and 'distant' sound if its set wrong, although it sounds okay enough that you might not notice it at first and just think the stereo isn't powerful.

As far as using the head unit goes so far I love it. Sync'd to my phone without issues and even synched my contacts, although once or twice when I go to use the phone through the headunit the contact list was grey'd out, not sure what that is about. (Motorola Droid RAZR running Gingerbread) and my work phone (bb) without issue and the call quality is fantastic when talking on my phone in the car. Also used the bluetooth streaming audio from my phone and was surprised to find the track and pause/play controls all worked because the audio source in my phone is Grooveshark radio, not the built in app or Pandora radio. Displays my phone battery life, and gets the track info/album art (not from the grooveshark app, but if I use the normal music app). With Android its probably going to be hit and miss for album art/track info. Every music player is slightly different.

I will most likely just setup a vpn on my phone to stream pandora as this headunit has Pandora support, although once again because its Android it may or may not work.

I *really* like having dedicated buttons for common controls instead of a full touch screen.

Audio quality is great, although that will vary largely by your taste and experience. I never go very ridiculous with my stereos usually just a good 'budget' head unit and new speakers and I'm happy.

The car has a good rounded sound without being boomy. Yes, if you like to feel the bass more than hear it you will want a sub but you wouldn't need much and the headunit has provisions for subwoofer output (although I haven't seen the actual physical outputs or looked at the manual, but it has software controls for sub out). For me its perfect the way it is, but I could see adding a small sub down the road if I can do it in a factory quality install (hell might even just go get them to retrofit the sub option, but not sure if thats availble in canada)

Anything else you want to know?

Awesoem man! I really appreciate your post!

And yeah, I'm a lot like you when it pertains to taste in music etc and especially pertaining to hard keys as opposed to the ALL touch screen. I like my most frequently buttons being actual buttons :P

Thanks a lot man, seems like I'm going to enjoy it too! Can't wait.

Is Nav the major difference?

I use Rhapsody on my phone, its pretty nice because when you start the car the music starts playing, it must send a start cammond to the phone, and when you leave the car the music pauses, and again restarts when you get back in. Always ready to go. I have not had much luck in downloading the phonebook, but to be honest, I dont use the phone option much anyway..lol
