Utilizing a ruleset that is specific to the platforms, the 86CUP aims to provide a friendly, safe environment in which 86 enthusiasts can hone their driving skills. Come join us at our events, get a ride, and experience the true capabilities of our platform in its natural environment! With the success of previous years and a growing population, we could not help but expand and welcome new track organizers as well new supporters to 86Cup. Cusco-Winmax, GT-Radial, and CounterSpace Garage have been phenomenal to our growing needs and will continue to support the 86Cup for 2016. New for 2016 is Elite Performance, Burlingame. They have been a silent partner for a while now supporting our stock and modified FRS/BRZs with parts, installs, ECU tuning, and any other track-prep our cars need. Last but not least is 86drive . Norcal's group of enthusiasts that continues to grow from canyon carving to track driving. A few of Norcal 86Cups' regularly attendance still maintain their canyon carving prowess while letting it all hang out at an 86Cup event. 2016 also brings us two new track organizers hosting our 86Cup events! NCRC has been our father on the track and 2016 will mark our 3rd-season relationship with NCRC. Our newest addition to hosting 86Cup track days is SpeedSF . An established group, SpeedSF has some of Norcal's most experienced drivers utilizing a wide variety of performance vehicles. The next and upcoming 2016 86Cup track hosts is Exclusive Trackdays . They offer private trackdays with limited crowds and more track time. 2016 86CUP Rules Visit Socal's https://www.86cup.us/ site for rules, regulations, and more info. 2016 Norcal 86Cup Schedule: http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/...psbqqjfw3w.png Registrations is now open for majority of the earlier events however, you may not immediately see an 86Cup category. HPDE's are generally not competitions and if I remember correctly NCRC won't even let you compete without approval via an instructor riding along and assessing your skills before they'll let you register for the higher classes (that might have changed or is not strictly enforced). Ask around, find a group that fits your schedule with a reputation for good instruction, maybe go with a buddy. And if you go to watch, try to find a good seat right next to a fast driver just before he heads out on track if you know what I mean ;) Most people are friendly and willing to give rides. |
@MyRx
Pretty stoked to see Speed SF will be hosting some events, I know Elite is pretty close with those guys. Since Speed SF runs their own little time attack group for one session, will they be allowing 86Cup participants in as well? (might be neat to have less traffic for some flying laps) I know with Exclusive Track Days the 86 Cup participants will be getting their own run group all day, so that will be an event not to miss! |

Yes, Exclusive Track Days should be an exclusive one. One that could entice Socal 86Cup to join us...on the new side of Thunderhill. |

Nonetheless, definitely come out and check out the action trackside! |

A joint Socal/Norcal 86 Cup at Thunderhill West would be epic. That track was built for these cars. |
Heh the new side of Thunderhill still makes me twitchy, but admittedly, the last time I was on it was in a NASA safety truck and I was responding to a grass fire. Let me tell you, those trucks do NOT turn well and that track was narrow as hell through some of them. :D
I may consider Sonoma though since I'm literally right down the road. Besides, my husband's Focus has been out there and earned its sticker so it's my turn in the FR-S. (For the record, turn 2 at Sonoma in a 2012 Focus SE is a frightening experience because it almost baaaarely makes it up that incline.) |
This is pure WIN!

You're right, Thill West is some single-lane, go-kart-like mechanics required...which I could not see our cars better belonging to. Sonoma has been a long time coming. Fortunately for the 86Cup, SpeedSF is experienced with Sonoma. |
See you guys at Sonoma (hopefully).
|
Thanks once again for donating your time to make this happen MyRx. Much appreciated!
|
Quick question about Sonoma, will I have any issues regarding the noise restriction with a header + exhaust?

Just registered for Sonoma!
Just looked at the currently registered names, and there aren't very many 86 Cup people signed up. Come on guys! |

I just registered for Thunderhill West with SpeedSF on 4/17. First time running with this group and I was wondering how they conduct time trials. Are they similar to NCRC?
To sign up for 86 cup, do I check the SpeedSF challenge during registration? It's an extra $20 but includes transponder and "Bonus extra session with vehicle grid by their fastest lap time". |
Quote:
They have the separate speedsf time trial session during lunch, starting you on grid based on best time. Great way to try and beat your PBs without hitting traffic |

Sonoma was pretty wet yesterday but that didn't stop some people from testing their skills. Unfortunately there was only one 86Cup participant in the morning, @AyJay. Luck for him though, he got his own personal track photographer! This was also my first chance to take track pictures with my new lens :D
Here are some pictures of Adam going around the track plus a few extras. Link to the gallery page afterwards. http://static1.squarespace.com/stati...g?format=1000w http://static1.squarespace.com/stati...g?format=1000w http://static1.squarespace.com/stati...g?format=1000w http://static1.squarespace.com/stati...g?format=1000w http://static1.squarespace.com/stati...g?format=1000w http://static1.squarespace.com/stati...g?format=1000w There was a lot of this going on both on the skidpad (fortunately) and on the track (unfortunately) http://static1.squarespace.com/stati...g?format=1000w The rest of the pictures can be seen here: http://scottgrassophotography.com/86...onoma-raceway/ As always, if you would like higher-res copies of any of the photos, please let me know. |

2nd post updated with GT Radial contingency program.
Also, check out https://www.86cup.us/ site for more detailed information/rules/mod list. |
Color me stupid, but what are the safety gear regulations of helmets and such for the 86 Cup? I need to buy a new one and was wondering which Snell and dot standards are desired.
|
Quote:
For starters, any SA2010, SA2015, or DOT will work. Fitment will be the most important regardless who's rating you may follow. Any plans to take it serious, I would suggest investing in a SA2010 or SA2015 helmet (SA2005 expired and discountinued) just because other race clubs/orgs tech helmets and having an outdated or non-Snell could end your day before it begins. http://winecountrymotorsports.com/ inside Sonoma Raceway has a large inventory of helmets to try on. |
Quote:
I assumed as much. My helmet that was 2010 rated was damaged when I moved, so I figured it was worth asking if 2015 was now mandatory. Thanks! |
