Scion fr-s recall 2016

Quote:

Toyota's youth-oriented Scion brand is recalling about 28,000 FR-S sports cars in North America because drivers can take the keys out of the ignition without the car being in park.

The recall covers cars with automatic transmissions from the 2013 through 2016 model years.
Toyota says in some cases, the mechanism that holds the key until the ignition unless the cars are in park may not have been connected before delivery. That makes it possible to remove the key while the cars are in gear, which could increase the risk of cars rolling away unexpectedly.

Toyota wouldn't say if the problem has caused any crashes or injuries. The company says dealers will check the key lock mechanism. If it doesn't work, they'll activate it.
Official tsb is attached

All the more reason to have bought the manual. I wonder if auto brz premiums will be recalled as well?

No one chose a manual because they thought the ignition would be recalled in 2016, but thanks for sharing.

MisterSheep 02-09-2016 04:14 PM

Lol this makes me laugh.

Why thank you kind sir.

Good thing we didn't get autos.. I mean I don't want to be able to take the key out. Oh, what about the fine gentlemen who didn't buy base models? The ones with the keyless. Theirs keys have never been in the ignition.

Gotta go spend my Saturday at the dealership now. Wanted to sleep in too. :mad0260:

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
For all of the 50s and 60s and part of the early 70s the ability to take the keys out of the ignition while the car was running was a premium feature!!!!!! You paid more for the car to have the ability to do exactly that and it didn't matter what gear it was in.

DAEMANO 02-09-2016 04:24 PM

You see that A RECALL! - This car has horrible reliability. /s

Wait so I can take my key out and leave the car running? Or is it I can shut my car off and take the key out while in D? I swear I did that once by accident.

Take the key out while in any other gear including park.

Think im going to wait until I get the letter in the mail. The service people might become confused if I try to explain to them whats going on.

Can't find an official TSB, just an announcement on the Toyota site - probably because it was just released. Plus, its just the plug in module, nothing wrong with the transmission its self.

Literally I put the Service campaign document so you could do it yourself  it's just a little white plug near the dead pedal that's unplugged and should be plugged in.

Just try to take your key out while in drive. If it comes out, go to dealer. If not, don't

I ended up doing it myself after looking at the TSB, like I said, 2 minutes to do.

Its this plug, right?

Right after I posted my last comment, I said screw it and went to check. Also tried to pull my key out as they described it in the TSB. Didn't come out.

Note: This will be a worldwide TOYOTA and Subaru recall not just Scion. Scion didn't make the cars they just sold them.

I am surprised at the low number affected actually. Only 26,000? They must have seprate recalls for around the world since this would not have impacted just the US models I am sure.

finch1750 02-09-2016 05:55 PM

Eh. I park mine in N and yank the ebrake. Not gonna take it in
