I am NOT here to hurt any feelings, just to get a poll of people on this forum about the current fads nowadays. None of the photos are mine and found on google images.

What kinda car is that last one (chrome)? Maserati?

MisterSheep 02-05-2016 01:00 PM

I do understand Vinyl wraps are a great way of changing the look of your car without having to pay for paint.

you're an idiot
it's a Chris Brown's Buggatti

Like any and all mods.
Done well can look great even if not to my taste.
Done poorly looks like crap even if I would normally love it.
Quality uber all

go_a_way1 02-05-2016 01:03 PM

Is it bad I have voted rice everytime?

Summerwolf 02-05-2016 01:03 PM

I voted nice, but only because it is somewhat easy to reverse and often looks good when done well.... keeping in mind color choice plays a large part there.

extrashaky 02-05-2016 01:03 PM

Not a good poll. A chrome wrap is stupid ricey garbage, but I've seen some tasteful wraps that weren't ricey at all. This is like saying, "Paint: Rice or Nice?"

Tcoat 02-05-2016 01:04 PM

I would love to rock this for one afternoon on a really sunny day.
I would hit the highway and hunt down the transports with the polished rear doors, pull in front of them and scream "How do YOU like it you sonofabitch"!

That chrome disaster... Is that the one the idiot car dealer in Florida had listed for $45,000?

We did a 2500HD truck like this for the stampede 2 years ago at the other dealer I worked at. I loved taking it for lunch hahahaha I put like 500km's on it in the time I worked there. I just had to park it back on the lawn as it was more of a show piece then for sale

Cheap color change to look like a custom paint job that was mysteriously left off the factory option list: Nice

http://rttuning.com/wp-content/uploa.../Green-FRS.jpg

Bling, fake racing livery, look at me: Rice

*see every picture above except the first silver one and the green one I posted*

Edit: goddamn it, that green frs was paint not wrapped, I take it back, haven't seen a nice looking wrap on an 86.

This is how I see them too. Cheap reversible paint jobs... I can understand the appeal. Just a vinyl wrap by itself I don't think is rice in the same way a car with an aftermarket non-functional spoiler or non-sponsor stickers is.

With vinyl wraps, it's kind of like asking is a car with a cheap paint job rice? Not really, it's just cheap lol.

murdoc 02-05-2016 01:23 PM

Rice or nice for vinyl wrap is exactly the same as it is for paint. Depends on the style and the job done. It's nice to have a non-permanent option.

One thing I don't like on a car is a differently colored engine bay, but that depends on color.

A black/white/gray engine bay doesn't look that bad, but a silver car with an orange bay or something like that will look cheap.

MisterSheep 02-05-2016 01:34 PM

Yes I realized wrapping is the same as painting. I was just trying to think of a RECENT CAR FAD that people seem to be doing.

I PERSONALLY believe it can be both.

Wrapping can be used professionally as in decals trying to show off their business on a vehicle.

What I'm talking about which can possibly be rice is the "oh I am going to wrap my car matte orange because I can and it'll look dope! *sucks on douche flute vape*"

This rice or nice stuff usually isnt towards the people who do the modifications to the car (professional wrappers) it's the owners of the cars. Please do not mix these up, and like I said, most of this "rice" stuff is hard to talk about because it can hurt people's feelings pretty easy. But I'm just trying to come up with the recent car fads that are going on in our current "car culture"

This thread is meant for discussion, if threads werent meant for discussion then why would we even have them?

LOLS2K 02-05-2016 01:41 PM

@MisterSheep really hates vaping/vapers :bellyroll:

UM sheep. There is no such things as "recent" car fads really. Everything being done has been done before. The only real difference is the level of technology in which it is done now. The basic ideas have happened since the first car rolled off the line and some guy (usually young) said "well that is nice but..."

I'm not talking about in general. I'm talking the recent fads we have now and what we are seeing. good example is stancing. In the early 90s it looked different too from the crazy body kits etc http://www.carid.com/images/extreme-...rear-lip-3.jpg

Culture in general evolves and changes and what would've been popular in the past might not be popular now. thats why I say "recent"

TruRace 02-05-2016 01:58 PM

I've always though wraps were kind of cheesy. The areas not covered like under the hood, door jam, trunk area, etc. that are left uncovered just look bad. But if you do a wrap around the same color as the original paint I suppose it would be alright.

Ah but it will be popular again some day just with different tech.

JDsThatGuy 02-05-2016 04:16 PM

depends on how its done, a nicely done wrap can look really really good while at the same time a poorly done wrap can make a car look terrible

I have a partial wrap on my car, I like it. Though I do feel like a wrap can be Rice. It's all about execution.

That's a swheat Supra!

Webster10 02-06-2016 12:07 AM

I doubt it'd look good on an 86, but it works for other cars. I've seen a pretty sweet Ford excursion that was wrapped in the same color blue as the gtr is in the OP.

I like my glossy black roof and matte black area under the radiator, just find them a pain to keep stain free, given any sort of liquid + sunny day = permanent stain

Anything can be ricey, but it also boils down to personal opinion. I don't really think this applies..but, I'm 100% for vinyl wraps. Here's my last two colors, both wraps.

@636 personally, I hate your new wrap. Just don't like the whole colour shift thing. Your green wrap was awesome, though.

As much as I don't want to agree with you guys... I agree with you guys.

I enjoyed it for about a week, but all I want to do is go back to a solid color now hahaha. I hate how washed out it looks during direct sunlight too. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'll keep it on until I can figure out a new color I want lol
