The SCCA Track Night in America is coming back in 2016! I'm sure most of you remember that this is a great way of getting on the track and SCCA has made the process as simple and low-cost as possible. The price of only $150 gets you three 20 minute sessions. The events are held at race tracks all around the country and takes place during the afternoon and evening hours on the weekdays.

The best news is that 7 new tracks will be added this year (a few more may be added in the coming weeks) along with the tracks ran in 2015. An event calendar will be made available later in February.

The current list of Track Night in America venues for 2016 is as follows (new venues bolded):

- Thunderhill Raceway Park Willows, CA
- Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park Thompson, CT
- High Plains Raceway Deer Trail, CO
- Atlanta Motorsports Park Dawsonville, GA
- Palm Beach International Raceway Jupiter, FL
- Putnam Park Road Course Greencastle, IN
- Blackhawk Farms Raceway South Beloit, IL
- Palmer Motorsports Park Palmer, MA
- NOLA Motorsports Park Avondale, LA
- New Jersey Motorsports Park Millville, NJ
- GingerMan Raceway South Haven, MI
- Pittsburgh International Race Complex Wampum, PA
- Portland International Raceway Portland, OR
- Carolina Motorsports Park Kershaw, SC
- Pocono Raceway Long Pond, PA
- Harris Hill Raceway San Marcos, TX
- Memphis International Raceway Millington, TN
- Dominion Raceway Thornburg, VA
- MotorSport Ranch Cresson, TX
- The Ridge Motorsports Park Shelton, WA
- Pacific Raceways Kent, WA

I'm very excited about the brand new Dominion Raceway track in Thornburg, VA. Looks like the track will be opend by April. http://roadcourse.dominionraceway.com

Harris Hill, YES!

avishenoy1 02-04-2016 09:50 AM

I'll be at the Thompson and Palmer events. Went to 3 last year and it's definitely the best track day deal out there, you get 1 hour of track time plus a few paced laps for $125 with an SCCA membership, and if you have a group discount code it goes down to $100.

ka-t_240 02-04-2016 10:31 AM

Sadly, nothing like this is close enough for me to use.

86_Freak 02-04-2016 11:02 AM

Is there anything special that SCCA does over a standard open lapping event that most tracks have? Three 20 minute sessions for $150 is pretty steep, at least for the tracks around me. I can go up to Raceway Park of the Midlands or down to Hallett and spend around $100-$130 and get five to six 20 minute sessions. Also, High Plains Raceway has open lapping on Fridays for $160 and you'll also get five to six 30 minute sessions.

Shark_Bait88 02-04-2016 11:44 AM

Work is only an hour and a half from Blackhawk Farms.

My goal is at least one track day a month this year, I may have to bump that up to 1 1/2 to 2 track days a month... haha

Many tracks are not that cheap, especially in good weather season, 5x 20 minute sessions at Thunderhill (one of the tracks they're running) is usually $250-$400 depending on the group and track layout, similar story for Laguna Seca and Sonoma (although prices do drop to <$200 in Dec/Jan sometimes).

They're really just trying to increase access to track days and have a casual fun environment. As I understand it there's no instructors and a huge emphasis on safety and not getting in over your head.

JimR 02-04-2016 01:45 PM

Being able to open track during the evening has novelty, and it looks like the TNiA secret sauce is offering that after-work, low-barriers accessibility to people with tight time commitments.

It would be nice to have a road course close to me and be able to participate. After a traditional 4-6 session track day in a street car, I know both me and the car both feel used up. A lot of people can spend a few hours at the track, drive three stints, and feel like they've had a good time.

ft86Fan 02-04-2016 09:25 PM

Tracks in the North East are usually close to $300 for a day of HPDE so the Track Night events are definitely a bargain.

Shark_Bait88 02-04-2016 09:36 PM

Around $250/day in the Midwest

IL area for me. Smaller/less well-known tracks on weekday can be around $150ish, most tracks for a weekend are $250ish.

I love BlackHawk, so I'll be there (and with Jimmy Yu's GPS Track Time)

The one on June 27th? I was hoping to sign up for that one. Signing up for the first Autobahn event today.

Yeah. Jimmy has it organized really well and it's super casual. Usually tons of track time. Lots of people leave after 2-3 sessions; so the afternoon can be pretty open.

Also hoping to make my deposits with Laps Inc for Road America and Autobahn before the end of the month.

Nice.

I'll be running Autobahn North with Windy City BMW the 21st and 22nd. Might not be a bad idea to take Monday off and run the full course on the 23rd too... lol

I'll probably do Road America with MVP Track Time.

MVP Track time? We need a sticky thread where we list all these companies!

That's what did my wallet in last year. They were just way too convenient to attend for a fix. :D

Solo / Instructor. It'll be a lot of fun. Bunch of us are staying at the track the night before too.

Actually, it's pretty funny, this is the first event in a long time where so far the registration list is almost all BMW's. Usually we have a wide variety of cars. It's still early though. :)

Uplink 02-29-2016 07:01 PM

Registration for Track Night events opens tomorrow!

I'm trying for Palmer on May 2nd. Toying with the idea of driving from there straight to Poconos on the 3rd. (I don't have a problem, I swear. :D )

There's a June 7th at Thompson but I may be at the Glen with BMW CCA on the 6th & 7th.

Can't hurt to reach out to them to see if they'll still apply the discount.

I will be there, debating on HPDE insurance as I am usually a time attack person.

I always pick up the insurance because you never know. If you think you're going to do a lot of events, buy a batch. Lockton's 6-pack saves you a little over an event worth.

Uplink 03-04-2016 09:55 PM

So it looks like they changed the program a bit this year and each person can only use a code once on their account. So if you plan on attending multiple events, PM all of us for alternate codes: @ft86Fan @GSpeed @Uplink

Sorry to be a stick in the mud, but we were told our coupon code was just to be included with a purchase.

I just signed up for Thompson on April 26 and will hopefully be able to make Palmer on May 2nd as well.

AyJay 03-10-2016 03:35 PM

I attended one of these events last year and was less than impressed for the following reasons:
1. They are mini light weight events that typically run the smallest and thus cheapest configuration at my local track (T'hill). C'mon SCCA, you literally OWN and operate thunderhill, open up the entire track!

2. I felt like the event brought out more tourists... even in the Advanced group. For the most part everyone was cool but there were a handful of pylon drivers out there including a Dodge Viper driven by a self-described "former SCCA champion" who was driving to block passers and then nearly ran me off the road when I attempted to pass on the small configuration track. First time I experienced someone THAT dangerous.

Other peoples may have had better experiences but mine was one to forget...
