Plate mount

I read a thread on this but don't remember if it was related to Canada at all. I'm just wondering for those of you who have your BRZ or frs did it come with a front plate mount? I don't want one and certainly don't want drilled holes if I can avoid it.

they will drill holes as part of the PDI by default

if you don't want holes you tell them prior and they leave it alone.

My dealer didn't drill the holes for me, even when I didn't ask them to.

Actually works out, cause it looks MUCH better, just don't know what I can do atm to mount it.

What have you guys done?

For the BRZ, the OEM bracket apparently doesn't require any drilling in to the bumper. I asked my dealer not to drill the bumper under any circumstances and they said it's not even required. Guess I'll find out later.

My car came with a front plate mount, however my province doesn't require one. They just left the mount with me though.

Its currently just sitting on my dash, I'm tempted to just zip tie it or attach it to the bottom of the grill, just don't know if that would be a good idea or not.

I used zip ties to hold it onto the grille for now. Does a pretty good job, doesn't move around. I Will be buying a grimmspeed relocation kit soon.

I didn't order that because in Alberta we don't require front plate. But I saw a few good review on them.
I don't think they will charge tax but they use UPS and probably will charge brokage fee

I got mine via the GrimmSpeed GB and requested to ship via USPS (in place of Fedex/UPS), and they did. It arrived in Toronto in 4 days; no tax, no duty, no brokerage fee. Now, I just need a FR-S to put it on.

Good luck.

IchigoIchie 06-28-2012 11:40 PM

My dealer said it would be a shame to drill into the car and so they didn't. I didn't even ask them, so we zip tied the plate to the grill instead. I received my grimmspeed plate relocated today and just put it in. Looks great, a tad riced though. XD

Mine didn't drill. They asked. I told them to go ahead. To be honest I like the look of it. It breaks up the front bumper nicely. I saw another BRZ around town and he doesn't have it. Just keeps his plate above the glove box which I think looks silly. To each their own.

A couple points though:

1) Not really sure I'd want a loose piece of metal in the cockpit if I was to get into an accident.

2) Tow hook plate looks retarded on most cars (including this one) imo. I don't know... I think I might be OCD when it comes to non-symmetrical things.

FBaxteR-S 08-18-2012 11:20 AM

I'm not sure what the point is of providing such a subjective opinion on a matter such as this.

I think the tow hook mount looks fantastic (imo) and I would pick that over drilling holes in the bumper to preserve the clean look (imo) if I ever want to take it off for an occassion (imo) and give the future buyer the option (imo).

Clearly people are free to decide their own opinion on this option, and with pictures as evidence, not much additional info is needed for people to form that opinion... (imo)

**Using a term such as retarded to describe your taste in the tow hook mount is also insulting and disgustingly indefensible.

Stav 08-18-2012 04:03 PM

We have those in stock @JRP. If you go to classifieds Canada section I have a full post there.

Thank you

I ordered an offset plate mount from Rho-plate. They're in Burnaby, so you don't have to order internationally and the shipping is quick.

You like the look of the tow hook. Lots do. You expressed your opinion. I don't like the look of off-center license plates. Lots don't. I expressed my opinion.

That is the point. Freedom of speech. If you don't understand the point of providing a subjective opinion on a matter such as this why provide a counter-opinion?

I didn't buy (nor do I drive) the car with thoughts in my mind of re-selling it. If I did I wouldn't enjoy it to the fullest as I'd always be wondering if what modifications I made or how I drove it would make the car more difficult for me to sell. I drive it to enjoy it. And quite frankly, if I had the tow hook plate I'd enjoy it less since every time I see one it turns my stomach. If that hurts your feelings I'm sorry for you.

You attempt to take the higher ground but you use it to cast stones. I wasn't arguing the mental capacity of anybody who would choose to do it since I realize beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Anyway, I see no real point in conversing with you since I've read over some of your other posts and you strike me as the type of person to walk around forums with hairspray and a lighter. Nice troll job though.

tell your dealership not to install your front plates...just use zap strps for the front plate...be patient...accessories will come out soon for the front plate

if I were you i would also get them to leave all the stickers on, not wash the car & get it detailed by someone professionaly

I was thinking of zip ties, but how does that work? Where do I hook that up o the plate to the grill?

I just looped it through the grill...just temp for now till more plate holders come out in the market.

Stav 08-19-2012 08:26 AM

I looped mine till my plate holder came in, pushed the grill right out of place due to wind being pushed on the grill from the plate. Don't recommend for to long.

SPEEDGOD 08-19-2012 05:24 PM

Damn I didn't know there'll be a side effect, but I'll definitely try this solution for now until like you guys said, until better stuff comes out.

Epic failure to spot sarcasm, and my "counter-opinion" was purely to provide another example of how useless these opinions are, but good job.

The thread wasn't "What is everyone's opinion of the tow-hook mounts?" now was it? :sigh:

Mine were zip-tied prior to the relocation kit coming in but it blocks air flow.. so I'm not sure if you want to use that as a long term solution.

I checked my front grill & no problems being out of shape or anything

sapphire 08-21-2012 01:57 AM

For those who are in the Vancouver/Burnaby area I bought my tow plate at speed syndicate in Burnaby. But fair warning though, it loosens pretty easily and your plate might fall and scratch your paint. So once you get the thread in, don't take it in and out at all anymore. I learned the hard way.. =( I had to refix it with a looot of washers just to tighten it up again.

And to comment on zip tying on your front grill... well mine is fine. I had no problems with it, but yeah I don't recommend as a long term thing.

EDIT: Oh, sorry I guess it was already mentioned.

Yo,

I have a License plate mount you might like. This tilt action is adjustable 180degress. I mounted it on the top portion of the grill. No need to ruin the paint and drill holes on the bumper. Check out these photos let me know what you think. If your interested, PM me. Check out my facebook page: Kinzo Metal Art

Rossman 08-26-2012 12:18 PM

That's pretty nice, though I still prefer to create no holes at all in the car :)
