Anyone else tempted by the tail out?

I can't be the only one CONSTANTLY giving into the temptation to power oversteer this car every chance I get. I'm not talking lurid powerslides, but just a little kick out whenever it's reasonably safe to do so. I'm at around 6k miles and I haven't been a day without smelling at least faint tire smoke.

Hot-Lava_Dave 01-21-2016 05:47 PM

I live in Michigan, and I now love putting up with our famous "Michigan lefts".

Djratrap 01-21-2016 05:47 PM

It rains a decent amount in Seattle so we get a lot of "freebies."

KR-S 01-21-2016 05:48 PM

The temptations are there, but I really like the idea of not crashing into anyone or anything if something goes wrong. :iono:

Besides, I define "reasonably safe" as doing it in a safe, controlled environment i.e. at a sanctioned event.

Yes..i have..but that was accident..
I was turning left in a raining day.,,i guess i was going kinda fast and turn too much left..
my tail kind of lose control, my car was going 10 o'clock direction. Thank god i was react fast enough to counter steer and my traction control kick in.

All the time! Drift when turning onto the highway, drift on the empty roads around my house, drift when I have to do a u-turn at an intersection. I live near the ocean, so it's a ghost town during the winter. There's hardly even any cops out. I just have to keep reminding myself not to burn all the tread off my winter tires though.

It's definitely hard not to pick some spots to hang it out at when it's as controllable as it is in this car. Scared myself once on an uphill turn in the rain and I look back on that incident fondly because the car saved my butt while letting it go just far enough to let me know I was going too fast. And the donuts with everything off are just too ridiculously easy not to do at least once a week...

Packofcrows 01-22-2016 03:54 AM

twice by accident with over rev, one on ice and when i finally was about to a local town police officer pulled me over... just a warning...

Got over it but i always am expecting a 'freebie' when it rains.

finch1750 01-22-2016 03:59 AM

dibs on Brembos...oh crap. wrong car

86 South Africa 01-22-2016 04:42 AM

I dig it... and do it more often than I probably should.
This car was designed for it, wasn't it?

That being said, I do find it quite tail happy when it rains... I almost lost it doing just 30km (around 20mph) in the rain once as it continued sliding long after I was off the gas pedal.
No harm done, and didn't hit anything so all good fun, but a warning of how quick you can lose it if you aren't paying attention :)

chaoskaze 01-22-2016 07:36 AM

Why bother power oversteer?.......On stock tires all you need is just turn/attack angle late with "abrupt" steering input.

You can faint drift a bit @ any intersection without throttle input.

(please make sure u are not on the inside lane when u do this >__> & don't do this in wet.)

That was the weirdest thing to get used to for 3 days. You guys got all kinds of special up there from drinking the water.

Sliding is slow. It's fun but its slow. I tend to keep it to a minimum in summer but winter is free game up here...

Jesse36m3 01-22-2016 10:16 AM

The stock tires are hilariously easy to power over with and keep control. It really feels like a video game sometimes to see how long/far I can keep it going on rural backroads/intersections. Ever since I got my 17x9 wheels and 245 mpss tires I find it even more fun taking turns at twice the speed I thought was possible while maintaining grip.

There's a time and place for everything, keep that in mind. Don't go lucid on the streets.. This isn't my first, or even third rwd car, so I have a bit of self control. (lol)

Yeah, a lot of people seem to get confused by it. You should see Michiganders try and navigate a traffic circle, laughable. :slap:

The water situation is unfortunate, thankfully I don't live in Flint!

Traffic circles do that to everyone who hasn't seen one.

Every morn on the way to work ... I approach a 90 degree on ramp to the freeway. The street is busy with everyone rushing to get to work. I'll approach the 90 at speed with a little gentle oversteer. The funny part is watching the people following me. They're totally unaware that their car cannot approach that turn with that much speed. I've seen some funny things as they late brake into that turn.

Very hard to resist the urge to slide around every corner in this car but I dont have money to spend on new tires so I only do it when it rains lol
