How's your car doing?
So I'm looking into picking up a newish 2014-2016 model and I'm just wondering how's everyone's car holding up?
Could you guys let me know? Post your mileage, and if any.. problems you've encountered. And perhaps a review? Or rating in which you'd give the car? Appreciate it fellas! |
I have a 2013 premium MT that I've been driving since July 2013, it has around 53,000 miles now. I've had no major problems, got the car serviced every 7500 miles. Only mods I've done are clear side markers, K&N air filter, and Michelin Pilot Super Sports tires with make the car feel like it's on rails compared to the stock tires. It's easily the best driving experience I've had but not saying much since the only other cars I've spent a lot of time driving are various Honda Civics.

2014 BRZ
Feb-ish 2014, 19k miles. Only issue is fuel pump crickets, which happens during the summer. Apparently due to 91 octane in California and the heat. The gears feel a little weird but normal. Dealership checked, and confirmed it's normal. Disappeared after 3-4 months. |
2015 BRZ, 17k miles already, everything working flawless. Paint sucks tho.
|
2013 BRZ Limited SoCal. Bought used over a year ago. Currently ~64000 miles. Never experienced crickets with 91 octane gas from Costco. If I have experienced crickets, it's no where near as bad as eco-boxes when they are idle.
Only issue was a faulty alternator about 500 miles after it was bought. I assume the previous owner knew about it , but sold it anyway. Some |
2013 BRZ Limited, 60k miles, no issues, modded and tuned within a year of ownership and have been running e85 for past 9 months.
My brother also has a 2013 FR-S, 70k miles, lightly modded (no engine mods, just minor suspension), no issues. |
|
2015 brought at 2014 July with 8500 miles. no problem, performed well. love it. It made going to work or supermarket fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun. Took it to canyon road, friend with Audi S3 were having trouble keep up. He said he felt my car motion is so effortless and smooth at every turn, that is how i felt too lol.

19k 2014 limited MT. LED light failed for the passenger headlight. The full assembly was replaced. Drivers side drl had condensation and was replaced. Front bumper slightly sag after replacing the headlight. Chirps when I put a different fuel than BP. No major issues. Love the car and I would definitely buy it again. I would get it in white instead of black.

Your best bet is reading through threads here.
I can share that I've gone through 2 battery replacements under warranty. But they were super nice about it, especially considering the 2nd one was probably my fault (and they were able to clearly state why). But they didn't even imply it was my fault; they just mentioned what I did and replaced it [again] anyways. Otherwise she runs like a champ, and I've beat her bad (autocross, track days, snow drifting). |
2015 BRZ, 30,000 miles.
Issues and "Issues": - Minor clicking on driver's side inner CV joint. Waiting for it to get a bit louder to take it to Subaru repair. Noticeable when there are 3 people in the car (bastard that used to have a Mustang goes in the back). - Paint is truly shit. Lots of little places where all paint is gone due to small rocks. Everything is stock with the exception of the speakers. Subwoofers in doors replaced with regular speakers. Amplifier replaced with non-subwoofer amplifier. Doors would rattle all the time before. Minor issues all things considered. Lots of fun would buy again A++. |
Just to clarify.. I don't think any new car will have paint that resists chipping anymore due to switching to waterbased paints. It's not a BRZ problem.
I don't think anyone has had paint peeling off or large sections of paint missing.. please share? IMO the paint polishes great and holds up like most. |
2014 Limited in sterling silver metallic. Bought immaculate Oct 2015 at 6700 miles, now have 10500 or so. It's due for a service but absolutely nothing to report. No mods except a free flow air intake and some bulbs replaced with LEDs. The paint is lovely, but I could see my own tires were going to ruin the lower panels, so on went the mud flaps. They don't look too bad. God help the front bumper -- I couldn't stand a bra.

Got myself a brand new BRZ in 2015. It has 6000 miles so far.
Crickets are prominent, even with 93 fuel being consistently used. Rattles have been fixed with proper foam placement (like the rear parcel shelf). I've had absolutely no issues with it so far. It was my dream to get one and I pulled the trigger. I enjoy the car every single day. |
Go read the second link that @soulreapersteve posted. I started that thead cuz you really only find negative posts on here no one posts the positive hahaha.
I have have 0 issue with my 13' FRS and still love it. |

2013 Brz manual 36k miles. I had some ecu issue with the steering where it would just lock the steering wheel while driving fixed under warranty. I still have the crickets even after the dealer replaced the fuel pump and now I have the clicking noise from the rear axle. Took it to the dealer but they did not hear it then so could not help. So I might have to fix it myself.

I have about 80k miles on the car since I bought in May 2013. Over 75 launches due to autoX. I have replaced about 5 sets of tires. Around 76k miles I replaced the clutch due to a blown throw out bearing. Granted this most likely happened due to the fact I launch the car all the time in, driving in San Francisco's hills is a bitch, and the clutch failed the day after my first track day at Laguna Seca. The engine leaks some oil, but that's likely due to the abuse of just being a daily driver and high mileage. I only know of one other person who is more abuse than me in his car, and he has over 125k mile on his car but with a new motor.
One of the most common problems I don't like about this car is the windshield. It is more easily crackable from debris on the highway vs other cars due to the fact there is no gasket covering the outside edges of the window. |

My quick review is it's a great little car, more quick than it's fast. The torque dip is noticeable and is this car's biggest flaw IMO but easily remedied. The driving experience is like non other in this price range. I came from an RSX-S with I/H/E cams & Hondata so obviously the BRZ is not as fast but is significantly more nimble and hugs curves/corners like the RSX wishes it could. |
2013 at 60k+ miles.
I need the bumper, hood, and headlight realigned after a minor (10mph) run in with a deer. Also a couple dings I need to get removed with a PDR. Front bumper has a ton of tiny road chips that I hide with wax. I've buffed the stock wheels against a few curbs. If you don't pay attention to these details, then the car looks great still. The stock radio stopped working for me after reset (I didn't have an SD card), so I replaced the radio. My dome light has gone out and I need to find out how to replace it. Other things I need to get fixed are the shifter rattle, rear deck rattle, and I need new shifter bushings. I have replaced the MT fluid twice and changed the clutch, and had the spark plugs done at 55k. And kept up with the interval maintenance pretty closely. I probably need to get the diff fluid changed again, I get a whine in 3rd and 6th gear somewhere in the drivetrain. |
2014 BRZ Limited at 18K miles so far, top part of steering wheel starting to peel
|
2016 at about 400 miles, doing great.
Have not been able to go hard with it, so I don't know how well its going to handle it. The only thing I have done to it is to put some rain-x rain repellent on the windshield since water likes to stick to it. |
2016, automatic transmission, 3000 miles.
No issues as of yet. Pretty much always in sport mode unless there's snow on the ground, and drive it in manual mode about 20% of the time (only when I really need to throw it around). Otherwise sport automatic does the job just fine. |

2016 BRZ. Just over 3K miles. No issues, a lot of fun.
I have noticed the engine hiccups on cold start. I've seen some other threads on this. They sound and feel like misfires. But, I am thinking this is likely a side effect of the cold start tuning. The hiccups go away as soon as the high rpm cold start ends, and there are no codes. The car drives fine otherwise. |
2013 Limited BRZ 6MT. 24K miles. No issues, no crickets, no condensation.
|
14 limited brz MT, 13k miles, bought it at 4k in February of 2015. No issues so far. Currently in hibernation for the Minnesota winter :(

Aside from that and the chirping HPFP, my car has been perfect. |
I've got an early '13 Limited with 46k, 6MT. Been running just fine, starts up every day, no real mechanical problems but there are stupid little problems such as having to replace the rear view mirror bracket, window sticks when it's freezing causing me to reset the switch, squeaky clutch pedal when it's warm, oil smell that I suspect is coming from the rear cam cover (easy fix), god awful touchscreen stereo, pretty thin paint.
I've replaced the wheels & tires, camber bolts, high flow drop in filter, trans & diff oil, tint, & springs. It's been a great little car. Certainly more reliable than my e46 for a daily. |
2014. 15k miles. No real issues. It's my winter beater so it's been seeing some snow and temps well below freezing. It spends most of the time parked outside too.
Just got rid of my crickets by switching to shell v power nitro. |
Fine.

2013 Stock BRZ Premium 6MT w/35K. Just replaced the original Michelins. New tires are much better, but there is a good argument for the enjoyment of low-traction corner drifting.
Took the car to dealer 2X, but balked at $500 30K service and did it myself. Change my own oil and rotate my own tires. Car is ridiculously easy to work on. I've owned old British sports cars and my last car was a MINI Cooper S. BRZ is much more civilized than British cars and more powerful and solid than MINI. I've had none of the numerous problems complained about on this site. Subaru flat fours make odd noises and I occasionally see condensation in one of my tailights. I've never experienced better feel for what the car's doing handling wise than I do in this car and I've never felt as comfortable with the tail out than I do in this car. Being able to vary the stability control/traction control aids is a joy. I don't have any complaints about the interior; the seats are great and all controls are easy to get used to. The transmission is notchy when cold and shifts must be deliberate for a few minutes. After warmup, the shifter's a joy. The 2-3 shift works best either very deliberately or very fast, no in-between. The transmission/shifter has a personality just like any manual transmission. I love it. Best sports 2+2 for the money in the world. |

Garage queen. :) 2014, 4.7k miles, No problems. |
2015 Series.Blue I picked up in February of 2015 has 12K miles and no real issues. Crickets come and go (I use Chevron exclusively and maybe I should try something different), Cold misfires when first warming up, and my seat belt buckle squeaks. Other than those little things that I have read are normal, I absolutely adore the car.

2013 brz limited with 40k miles. garaged for most of the PNW winters the past 3 winters and hasn't been driven since thanksgiving.
she's far from stock, she far from babied around and has 10k miles of tuned UEL awesomeness. 0 issues. |
bought it Friday night and dealer gave me the wtf for changing the oil at 1005 miles. spooled it to 6k with 2/3rds throttle a few times on the way home then full lift to help get the rings seated. game on.
the salt trucks are rolling so parking it until the roads clear. the rust has consumed the fasteners on the Tribeca so trying to avoid that with this car. |
Just hit 70k on my 2013 Limited which I bought new in May 2013. No issues at all and still love it. It's garage kept but driven as my daily 100 miles per day back\forth to work.
|
Bought mine new with 7 miles Nov.2013, 7100 miles now, not one problem with it. Garage kept, all mods OEM. Weekend drive, sits all winter.
