Pure Red Decision
1 Attachment(s)
Hello guys. First time posting but I have been lurking for a bit. I decided on getting one of the twins some time ago and have so far narrowed my decision down to the BRZ limited MT because of the better trim and and in part because of the dealers in my area. This will be my first new car with everything else I have owned being a clunker.
I am a bit undecided when it comes to which color to get. I would love the car in the pure red color but everything I see online makes the color look very light and flat where as what I would like is a deeper metalic red with dimension, almost as a WRB but in red if you will. Now I know I will be told to check the car out in the dealer with this color in person to see if it fits what I am looking for but none of the dealers in my area have this model. If I am correct and the online pics are an accurate portrayal my second choice would be the satin white pearl as I think it looks really clean. Can anyone enlighten me to the appearance of the car compared to online pictures? I would appreciate any feedback. TLDR: What type of red is Pure Red. Attachment 129224 Brz I test drove |
Pure red isnt mettalic red. Which do you want? It is a very rare color for the brz. Look for a frs in the same color code and that would help some. Also try to look for pics with other colors that you recognize so you can figure out the tone. It is darker/deeper than the previous red if that is what you are looking for. Or check out other subaru models with the red, it should be the same.

The red is gloss and actually vibrant if its MY2015+ (color code and shade slightly altered from previous years, same thing that was done to WRB, etc.). The red is similar to Tornado Red for VW vehicles as another reference.

Bright, plain, classic sports car/fire engine red. Sounds like it won't be your cup of tea.
Sounds like you want Mazda's Soul Red. |
The "lightening Red" is a very very nice color on both the BRZ and the FRS. That's what my gf wants her frs color to be

I have the LR Brz. I love it. But you have to see it yourself. I bought the red without seeing it first, I almost changed my mind on the spot and took the pearl white one. But the red has grown on me and since it was my first non-junker; there is nothing like walking into the garage and seeing my red baby all clean and hoping it's a track day. If it's going to bug you, don't buy it without seeing it. It's worth driving! We drove 4 hours to get my wife's WRX. They day I picked her up:

I'm partial to white and neutral colors with metallics.

Red is an exciting color. But white will be easier to keep looking new as the car gets older. Red (and yellow) oxidize with time, something to consider

Trust me on this one, go look at it in person.
Before I thought everytime when someone posted a picture of a red BRZ/FR-S I threw up a little in my mouth because of how ugly it is, but in real life it's actually a really nice shade that's pretty. |
The Lightning Red to me looks brighter than Firestorm even though they are the same paint... A red BRZ is definitely more rare than other colours (I've only seen about 1 or 2 of them) and I think since its a Subaru, people associate the brand to more WRB. To be honest, I think a BRZ/FR-S looks great in any colour (although I personally find silver a bit boring).

The official gt86 release pictures are what convinced me to go with red. I feel like they show off the different shades well.

I have a Lightning Red BRZ. I absolutely love the colour. It's so nice to have paint without metallic or satin.
I find the colour so rich and deep. Like stated before, it's not as common of a colour. I've only seen two other red BRZs. |
I picked Lightning Red over WRB simply because WRB is too common, LR BRZ is a rare sight.
My concern is not so much the paint being non-metallic, but red has a tendency to fade to a dull pink/orange with years and years of UV exposure. I guess only time will tell. And lastly, everyone knows that RED is the fastest color. :D |

Thanks for all the support and replies. Yesterday I went to the dealer to look at a PR STI and I decided thar the color is not for me. During my time there I picked up this baby a bit earlier than expected. So far I'm loving it and can't wait to get through the OEMs recommended break in period.

I had a 2000 Protege ES in plain gloss red. It was a candy clear red on a pure white undercoat, and when it was in the sun it looked like an overexposed photo of the Burning Bush. I loved it. Defeated cameras of all stripes, including my own. My friends all said, "If you'd spent just a little more, you coulda got a red one." You can still see those cars around occasionally, known as the 4-door Miata and it deserved the nickname. I sat in a red BRZ at the dealer, and remarked how similar the two reds were. Very, very pretty. My mate said, "You're not getting another red car!" So, I lost that battle, but won the war by buying the BRZ in Sterling Silver which is mucho classy with its black windows. Congrats on your choice -- Great choice of car; the color will earn you many fewer speeding tickets than the red-- I'm still on Cloud BRZ as well . . . . |
