Mindsuckers 2013 Asphalt GT86
Thought i should share whats going on here over the pond and maybe exchange some ideas for future plans :)
Short backstory Used to own this Miata for 5 years but got really fed up taking care of all the small problems a 25 year old car involve so decided to put it out for sale to spoil my daily instead. Here's some pics what it looked like when i sold it. http://i.imgur.com/t6DfpXK.jpg http://i.imgur.com/4VLPdfv.jpg http://i.imgur.com/CdMmpz8.jpg And now onto this http://i.imgur.com/6L5Cgdy.jpg Current list of mods Exterior/interior TRD shiftknob TRD starter button Black trim pieces STI Gurney flap Beatsonic sharkfin antenna Handling/brakes/Wheels KW V3 coilovers Whiteline front camber bolts Whiteline front swaybar Whiteline adjustable front endlinks SPC rear LCA Rays TE37SL 18x9.5 +45 Rays lugnuts Michelin pilot sport cup 2 265/35 R18 Engine/drivetrain Stock for the moment Audio/multimedia Toyota touch & go headunit (won't mess with this area to much) So, picked up this 2013 Toyota GT86 at the dealership to replace my Nissan Juke as a daily. http://i.imgur.com/2Za060W.jpg http://i.imgur.com/B5Aj22P.jpg http://i.imgur.com/jVf0PCE.jpg Didn't have any bigger plans for it at the time since most money went into the Miata but got a Beatsonic sharkfin antenna to replace and a cusco gear knob from 86worx (Max from Rev9) together with the Garage vary panel i bought for the Miata during their groupbuy. http://i.imgur.com/lJVGnA1.jpg That was enough for the first year of ownership until the Miata was sold to fund some future plans. |
So during winter 2014-2015 i decided it was time to let the Miata find a new home so fixed some minor issues it had and put it out for sale once spring arrived.
Also got some small stuff from Japanparts since i was a little short of money at the time. Started with a STI gurney flap, TRD shift knob and some Rays lug nuts. http://i.imgur.com/x1Dp5z8.jpg Then it was time to get rid of all of the silver plastic trim pieces in the interior and replace them with the black versions from some of the JDM models. http://i.imgur.com/u6UtFY1.jpg http://i.imgur.com/s0wp5QI.jpg http://i.imgur.com/hG4tbxP.jpg. Also installed the gurney flap http://i.imgur.com/VmEFTu1.jpg http://i.imgur.com/S6anPa6.jpg Then it was time to move over to the handling so started with some SPC rear Control arms and Whiteline camber bolts for the front. http://i.imgur.com/EzHzOMR.jpg Took out the Miata from winter storage on April 4 and on April 6 it was sold to it's lucky new owner. Now it was time to get some new wheels to the GT86! |
There is way to many choices out there but finally decided to go with Rays TE37SL in pressed graphite grey in 18x9.5 +45.
http://i.imgur.com/uvZa14U.jpg http://i.imgur.com/HuUXioX.jpg http://i.imgur.com/ivwnoT5.jpg http://i.imgur.com/YPHRWuv.jpg Such a gorgeus wheel! Actually kept these in my livingroom a couple of months until i bought some meaty rubber for them. Got a really "good" deal on some Michelin Pilot Sports cup2 tires in 265/35 R18 http://i.imgur.com/Yv9AiFz.jpg http://i.imgur.com/T1zkPRR.jpg http://i.imgur.com/tyPSfYJ.jpg http://i.imgur.com/TcwjvYk.jpg http://i.imgur.com/PcO6BYv.jpg Unfortuneatly they hit the front spring perch so had to keep them of the car until i installed coilovers. So put an order on these KW V3 http://i.imgur.com/Ya21fWC.jpg Since i don't have access to any garage i decided to wait with the install until i went on vacation so got a TRD Start button to replace the OEM one in the meantime. http://i.imgur.com/MompGJu.jpg |
Now it was finally time to get everything installed!
Started with the rears which was pretty straight forward. http://i.imgur.com/8DA8Ius.jpg Here's the first result once it was dropped to the ground http://i.imgur.com/RDfnnaD.jpg Then i moved over to the front's and they didn't go as straight forward as i thought. At first the swaybar endlinks bolts was rusted out badly because some previous winter driving so had to cut them of. This also gaved me a reason to put an order on a beefier swaybar from whiteline complete with adjustable endlinks. http://i.imgur.com/vEsjDlF.jpg Then i had some serious trouble to move over the OEM tophats to the KW's. The oem strut use's a 17mm nut and i barely managed to fit a spanner to get them of. The KW's howeve, used a 19mm nut and i didn't have any tools at all that was slim enough to get down in the tophat. On top of that i also needed a 10mm socket to keep the from moving. Managed to borrow some tools next day, a slim 19mm socket and a really small 10mm socket. Used a vise grip to the 19mm socket to tighten down the nut and the coilovers was finally ready to get on the car. http://i.imgur.com/JKZYJod.jpg Raised the rear by 20mm to match the front and dropped it to the ground. http://i.imgur.com/h4AdLtM.jpg http://i.imgur.com/JaIB8S2.jpg Now it was time slap on the wheels and the result is far beyond my expectations! Fitment is spot on and it really handles like a dream! Can't understand why Toyota only have some skinny ass 215/45 tires from factory. http://i.imgur.com/yLi2eZs.jpg http://i.imgur.com/uqSepfB.jpg http://i.imgur.com/pHuS0u9.jpg http://i.imgur.com/cJroNFm.jpg |
Since i had to get new endlinks and i was planning to get whiteline swaybars next year i decided to put an order on the front bar to get the car running again.
Mounted the new swaybar a couple of days ago after work. No pics though since time flew by and i'm lazy. Also a couple new pics to get a better view of the wheels. Excuse the dirty car, was planning to wash it to but time ran away -_- http://i.imgur.com/3pnlPDz.jpg http://i.imgur.com/6L5Cgdy.jpg Have some clunking sound since the swaybar was installed so will take a closer look into that today and see if i can find the issue. |
Beautiful. Nice, simple, and clean.
|
Looking really nice man!
For the clunking, check the clearance between the links from shock to sway bar, I originally left my original links in when i switched suspension with a decent drop, and the different setup was giving the end links enough reach to clip the arms. Check the edge of the links / arm for any signs of contact, reducing my links length by 2cm resolved it for me. |
Thanks!
Crawled under the car this morning and there is plenty of clearance between the swaybar/endlink and the LCA. Going to get it up on a lift so I can get a better view from underneath to see whats going on. |
Nice to see the English version of your thread aswell :D You know I like it though ;)
|
looks good, love the wheels

Those PSC2 are ACE. But isn't it a bit too much in 265? Unless you're planning on adding some boost...
|
Yeah they're a bit oversized considering the power. Love how it handles though and even if there isn't a high priority right now there might be some boost in the future.
