Loved the old school rwd ones not so much the newer ones...
And omfg i love carburated with itbs sounds so damned good

If they were to resurrect this car, where could they fit it?
The FRS takes the cheap RWD section.
A new Supra would most likely be slotted to take on the 370Z or whatever similar car in that pricerange.

There may be a market still for small FWD sport compacts (like the last several generations)

Or would they take it back to RWD and slot it between the FRS and new Supra? (so competing with the lower end of the muscle cars, and the Genesis coupe?)

Then they could keep the tC as the small inexpensive FWD sport compact.....

hmm.....
FRS = 25-30,000?
Celica = 30-40,000?
Supra = 40-50,000?

If they were to do something like that it only makes sense to keep the Celica and Supra branded as Toyotas. It becomes too expensive to be a 'scion' IMO.

it would be hard to find a slot for a celica if they did revive it, the FRS now firmly occupies it's position. engineering wise it would be easy though, a lot easier than the FRS. no need to make it RWD, just get subaru to build a coupe version of the impreza and re-badge it celica gt-four.

I just learned that the name Celica was derived from the Latin word coelica, which means "heavenly", "celestial", or "magnificent" (it's even in the feminine form, which would mean you would have to give it a feminine name...:D).

Also, here is a 1973 (correct me if I'm wrong) Celica Liftback GT.

Just playing the asshole here... but how is this related to the FRS?

The more OT posts show up on irrelevant forum sections, the more irrelevant the forum section is (and we might as well move the entire place to one single large forum).

(Even looking at the tags for this thread tells you everything you need to know... "Celica" and "Toyota")

anyways, I've always loved the Celica. That was the car I owned before the FRS. Toyota can definitely find a way to fit a new one among it's ranks in addition to the FRS

If you don't see a problem, then that is a problem itself, or the way the site is moderated and segmented.

That, or moderators simply don't care and pick/choose the posts they wish to moderate, and that is speaks more for how the forum is run (or not being run)...

I enjoy these videos as much as the next person, but posts like these reduce the value of the forum in the long run.

But if it's not a problem, then I'll just go with the masses and ignore the actual description of the forum: "All photos, videos and other media related to the Scion FR-S and Toyota 86"

There are specific sub sections for a reason: to avoid chaos due to overly reddundant threads and to help seperate the information accordingly. This forum is already suffering from multiple reposts. It's not complicated to have put this thread into the "off topic lounge" or even into the "FR-S / BRZ vs ..." area if you phrase it into "where would you put the Celica if they brought it back" but even that is kinda pushing it.

Don't get me wrong; I effin' love the Celicas!

I hope everyone sees where I am coming from... the QUALITY of the posts on a forum are just as important as the QUANTITY.

What's the point of an awesome forum for people owning the 86/FRS/BRZ when the posts are not up to the reputation of the forum? What's stopping someone from going to other forums, diluting the individual value of each forum and making the community worse in the long run?

There's at least 3 or 4 other forums that people can easily be on, so why should they stop here when they can get more precise and clear info elsewhere?

I moderated several forums and mailing lists for the 240SX crowd from ~1998 till 2004, and the biggest value for the enthusiast was always the people that made the forum/mailing list better. Once the quality people leave (because of life, different hobby, or just simply losing interest), the venue becomes shit.

Just my word of caution before these OT posts get out of hand. Trust me, I saw 3 forums go down the tubes because no one cared.

Ok. Point taken guys. My bad.

When posting the video, it obviously occurred that it WAS a bit off topic. Hence the Celica tag etc. The first time I saw the video, I could see the lines, heritage and inspiration of the 86/FRS stemming from this car as well, hence the post.

Strictly speaking, yes off topic. Does it add value seeing it to an 86/BRZ/FRS enthusiast? I think it does. But that's just my opinion.

Will be more careful next time :thumbup:
