Part ID and potential problems?

Hey guys, so I have a black plastic? piece missing from a part of the engine and I’m not sure what it is and if any problems could have arised from not having it on for a good amount of time?

I also have a rattle that starts when the engine gets hot and can only really be heard after 2K rpm, but maybe that’s for another post with a video cause I’m not sure if that’s related.

Did you recover the plastic? If not it fell down inside there with the flywheel.

The part is just an inspection plate. Varus makes an aluminum on for $30corbthe original is $15 from the dealer.

It was a little while ago so I’m not 100% sure, but my faint memory feels like it might have been broken and I got some it? Not sure if some of it fell in, maybe some leaves could have fallen in there as well, not sure.

How bad would that be and could that have anything potentially to do with that rattling I described?

Could it be scoped or would the whole thing have to be taken apart?

It's not likely to be related. The flywheel would just pulverize anything plastic or leaf related. I would have to be able to hear the rattle to give you an idea.

The hole being there for a long time is not necessarily an issue. You might have some extra clutch dust built up in your engine bay because of it though.

Mine was open for a few months before I broke down and bought the varus part.

Ok, well that’s one relief at least...

As far as the noise goes, I’ll try to get some video of it...

If I drive the car really lightly Vs WOT then it doesn’t really make much noise; it can be heard from just revving but much more difficult; had someone rev it for me while I listene under the hood and couldn’t hear anything.

But yeah, I will try to get a video up today.

Might only make the noise under a load. I have a few of those noises.

I know these cars are notorious for noises, do you know what yours are and it’s not a problem, don’t know, or they are a problem but haven’t gotten around to them (not a big problem?)?

Try to catch a video of it. My two most prevalent are input shaft bearing whine. Fixed that one by installing a supercharger, can't hear it anymore. The other is clutch chatter, not sure what's up with that one, took the trans down a few times and nothing seems to be out of order no reason to replace it.

I also have trans chatter like prob under 1.5k... stage 2 clutch, I forget the brand, but I prob should have changed the flywheel at the same time.

How sketch do you think it would be to put the car on jack stands and put it into gear to hear it better without road noise?
People ever do that?

I mean, I'm sure people do. But I have never done more than idle or light accel in neutral on stands. Idk how safe or not safe it might be lol

Now I’m having a little trouble generating the noise consistently... a passenger said she thought it sounded like it was coming more from the dash than engine bay.

I’ll keep trying lol

Is it a constant rattle or just over bumps? I have had a few noises behind the dash.

afishl1 09-19-2020 05:33 PM

Well it seems like it is an inconsistently somewhat constant rattle when it’s hot over 2k sometimes louder than other times... I does not appear to be from bumps... I’ve tried to do a few voice memo recordings with the phone but it’s pretty hard to hear it with normal engine and other noises... I also have some aftermarket gear wine, not a super charger tho.
