So the greatest country the world has ever known just shouldn't be, a rebellion against taxation without representation was illegal at the time. That would be 1774 in case the allusion is lost on you.

Bad laws breed contempt for the law in general. Fighting bad laws by consistently disobeying them until they are no longer enforced and eventually repealed is socially responsible in any democracy. Let the government waste its resources enforcing bad laws, in fact, make sure the government spends more to enforce than they get in fines.

That's the way to get bad laws changed and current speed laws are bad laws. Even my law abiding wife pays no attention to speed limits: she's so smooth she's only ever been ticketed once and she was irate at the stupid arbitrary nature of that event.

Speeding is also a lot of fun...win win.

I don't know what is going on in this thread but I am for making happen whatever it takes to increase speed limits. Special toll roads? sure. Higher insurance, OK!

What annoys me is getting a ticket for 70 in a 50 when, yes I am speeding, yet most people are going over 60. It is probably more dangerous to pull out and gun it in your highway patrol car that me driving 70 past a guy doing 65.

Whatever, win some lose some, I've gone fast and not gotten tickets and gone approximately traffic speed and gotten pulled. :iono:

Unfortunately in Kanada we live in a socialist nanny state, and in the U.S a military industrial corporate oligarchy - neither is a free democracy.:(

To effectively change bad laws EVERYONE has to challenge them or the state does nothing.
But as we can see on these forums - you cant get anyone to agree on anything - LOL.

And yes - speeding is a lot of fun...lose lose - (speeding taxes, court appearances, higher insurance rates, broken or dead people and Bullwinkles etc.).

you speeding over 20, accepting the ticket, and then going to court to get thrown out or knocked out is just you watching out for your own wallet.

The first is really not an example of civil disobedience but more of an example of what in Kanuckistan would be a highly illegal arrest and a potentially lucrative lawsuit against the cops. But alas in Amerika civil rights went out with the Patriot act - Amerikans can be arrested with no reason and with executive order be executed without charge or trial. We have similar with the war measures act but it has to be enacted by the prime minister first.

The second vid is really not civil disobedience but a driver exercising his legal rights. In Kanada a cop requires no reasonable cause - He (or it) can stop you anytime for the simple reason of seeing your licence.

The third (burning of a police car) is civil disobedience (by commiting a criminal act), and those veiled protestors (rioters ?) also. Those protesting legally (no masks or criminal acts) are not engaged in civil disobedience as both yanks and canucks have a right to peacefully protest.
