Boxers are my favorite engine layout. They give designers more space to design a lower bonnet line and a more aerodynamically efficient profile. They have the tendency to rev easier and higher, less vibrations, shorter (thus lighter) crankshaft and are better balanced internally by design.
As for the output, I am interested more about torque and torque curve. If Toyota can make it a good sports engine by using the twin injection technology (as described in another thread) direct and indirect, that would be a good thing, especially if it is a fuel effiecient one too. Ideally for me, a 2 ltr boxer 4 with 21 kgm torque max at 4500 rpm, 90% available from 2000 rpm, and 180 hp at say 7000 and the limiter 500-600 after that. Perfect to match with a light weight and properly wheel sized sports RWD. :w00t: :burnrubber: |
I would like to see a high revving motor with at least 200bhp stock.
As for why doesn't toyota make their own engine? It's cause toyota motors are boring as hell. |

I suppose you have a point. I'd like to see them make an exciting engine in something less expensive than an lf-a. Even their sports car motors like the is-f motor are more boring than they should be.

Yes at Toyota motor can be made very fun by increasing displacement, adding a turbo and high compression.
