Hey guys, not sure if this belongs in the VS subforum, but I thought it'd be good here.

I have an opportunity to inherit a 20k mile AP2 s2000 at no cost, or spend approximately 10k dollars to get a BRZ. My father owns the s2000 and babied it, so I know it's condition and service records. Now I realize that it comes down to whether the extra practicality is worth the 10 grand, but what I'm more curious about is what you'd do given the choice. I know both cars would be amazing, but I don't want to be sitting in the brz and regret spending the extra money for an arguably similar car. For what it's worth I'm 23 and the extra cargo room would be very useful, but not sure if i can justify the cost.

Keep the S2000! That's a beautiful example of one. AP2 S2000s are awesome. It will not only out corner the BRZ/86, but it will take the BRZ/86 in a straight line. The sound of VTEC is pretty cool aswell.

Thanks man. I've been driving the s2k for the last month or so, and it's been awesome. Haven't had an issue with practicality yet, and it's a blast to drive. I think i'll stick with it at least until a turbo'd brz shows up, but chances are i'll keep it for the next several years. I still get a half-chub when I walk into my garage and see it parked before me.

Keep the s2000 for fast speed. Get a limited BRZ sti later. FRS/BRZ is just too hot on the street right now :)

Holy jesus, free s2000!?

lol, Id definitely say take the free s2000, only reason I would justify spending the extra on the brz would be to just finance the 10k and start building your credit for the future.

It provides a more driver-centric experience and in it the driver is always completely connected to the car. That being said, the FR-S is great at all those things, just not quite as great as the S2000. The one thing about the S2000 is that it is very unforgiving. I have found that the FR-S has been just as much fun because i feel much more confident approaching the limit. I always sort of feared for my life while hitting an on ramp at hyper-legal speeds in the S2000. From a practicality standpoint, I never had many problems with the lack of cargo room in the S2000. The fact is for getting groceries or tooling around town, you will make it work. You will never use either car to go to home depot though. I will soon be selling my S2000 because I don't need two cars with such similar goals. However given your situation I would highly suggest the S2000. You are young and a fast drivers car that can drop the top in a few seconds was always something I enjoyed for the past few years.

Thanks for the input. Was dying to hear from some one with both. Also,'s2ks are getting stolen like crazy now.

even then a car loan is a secured type of loan. you arent really going to build much credit that way

Keep the S2k. I was actually looking for one (clean, bone stock AP2 with low miles in white or blue) but what I found was around the same price as the FR-S.

If I could go back in time I'd sign the papers on that brand new '09 white/red leather S2k, but I didnt because Im an idiot. :(

No backseats, snap oversteer at the limit, and you basically are touching the passenger when riding out, seats dont recline much....

I would do a hardtop spoon pure race car but for a daily, no fr-s brz would be the best of that bunch, unless you can find a CR then maybe you would have yourself a fast car

I just made the change from an AP1 S2000 to the FRS. I honestly like both cars, but for a car that I am going to drive often I'd prefer the simple amenities that the FRS offers vs the barebones race car experience you get with the S2000. Don't get me wrong the S2000 is a great car, and MUCH faster from the get go, but it is just simply a different experience. I decided that the ability to have two more passengers/midgets in the back is a good trade off. But honestly I already have my 240z so the need for two bare bones cars just wasn't there anymore.

Fully insure the s2k. It will eventually get stolen. Use insurance check for BRZ.
