The info yes, that was widely already known. However, no other site had that photo of the blue car. They published that photo months before Tokyo even took place. Even when posted on here, a lot of you guys said the blue rendering by Motoring looks like crap, the real thing will look way better. Or something a long those lines.

They also were one of the 1st sites to report the next LS was going to be a fuel-cell.

Anybody in Japan right now to check out this magazine? Apparently they have details on the 'big refresh' of the 86. Not sure how reliable this magazine is, but it could be interesting nonetheless.

Looks spot on. Note the ribs in the middle of the air damn (is that what we call it?) except the opening doesn't appear as tall in the spy photos. Maybe its just the angle from below on the magazine vs the view down from the spy photos.

Anyway, I don't think anyone buying a pre-2017 is going to be missing out on anything. The refresh appears quite minor. Unless they did a number on the interior.

It actually looks a lot better than I expected it to. I thought it looked a bit disproportionate through the camouflage but the one on the cover of the magazine looks nice.

funwheeldrive 02-10-2016 09:37 PM

The front of the refresh looks horrible at that angle. Way too aggressive for my taste.

I like the wheels though...

168whp aggressive haha

I agree. I prefer the Corolla front

Bristecom 02-10-2016 11:16 PM

Yeah, ugh, that does look awful. Hopefully that too is just a rendering. It makes it look like it has a big mouth. And it looks like a cheap aftermarket bumper trying to overstate the aggressiveness of the car.

PICKLEBOY 02-10-2016 11:48 PM

Yeah the grill looks a bit too big for my taste if thats what the refresh will indeed look like... I'm curious to see what the other changes are. I plan on getting a Scion/Toyota FR-S in a couple years and would like to see some changes, but definitely not liking how that bumper looks.

Aha! Well done indeed.

The text is a bit hard for me to read, but they claim that, while the engine specs are unchanged, the gearing will be made shorter for increased acceleration!

I guess we will find out later this year.

raven1231 02-11-2016 01:09 AM

Looks to be generally possible. I'd say personally I'd want the original FRS over this. Wheels and lights look good though

Packofcrows 02-11-2016 01:11 AM

Front is yucky!!!!!!!!!!!!

OEM style Valentis are nice. I think I like the wheels more only because of novelty, not sure how I'll actually feel about them after awhile.

However, the new LED on the headlights are gross. It's a flat strip on a slanted-style light. Front in general is just gross too... so I don't really care too much for this refresh overall.

What happened with the rear bumper? There was camo shots but from what I can see it's exactly the same.

Hopefully there's some more information on the interior, but I think it's likely that it wasn't changed at all.

Can't be unseen.

Oh btw, does this mean the BRZ is going to keep its styling?

Tcoat 02-11-2016 05:35 AM

Computer rendered pic based on the camoed car. Not a photograph. Looks like they may be pretty close tough.

Summerwolf 02-11-2016 07:18 AM

I kinda like it, honestly. Looks kind of like the older lexus style to me. If that's what the front looks like, good job Toyota.

spicyricecake 02-11-2016 08:29 AM

soooo where's the BRZ refresh?

WRBrzRX 02-11-2016 08:39 AM

honestly this ugly whale face refresh just makes me love what I've got that much more

stevesnj 02-11-2016 08:52 AM

Nothing yet on the Toyota JDM site. It's a slight refresh if this is true, along with new wheels. The interior could have the majority of the refresh, who knows. Any change is good IMHO.

SuperDave 02-11-2016 09:35 AM

i'm glad i chose a brz. the refresh renders don't appeal to me. hopefully it looks better when an actual photo is shown. also I don't think the headlight and tail light renders are accurate, they just look to absurdly ugly! edit, nevermind i thought motoring was the source. if it's credible, i'm just going to keep my car.

Ahh, a whale. That's what it reminds me of! LOL, and that is why it looks so out of place. A lightweight sports car with a whale head looks very imbalanced.

Welp, usually Toyota has the upper hand with styling but maybe Subaru will save the day this time with their updated version. I was pretty sure that Toyota would fail to make it look as good or better and it seems that is the case. Did they even go to any fans to get their opinion on this refresh or was it "made by committee?"

phm14 02-11-2016 10:30 AM

I like what I'm seeing so far. Looking forward to seeing specs & colors so I can get my new Toyota on order. :)

I will reserve judgment until there are actual photographs. What we see there is probably pretty close but the highlights used in the rendering may be throwing things out of proportion. If some of those angles are not as sharp as they appear it may be great.

ichitaka05 02-11-2016 11:26 AM

Take that photoshop as a grain of salt. That front bumper is mostly 3D printed and camo is hiding a lot of things... so for them to render that, don't expect much. But few things are pretty close for sure.

Agreed. Shoot, even the official pictures might be deceiving. A lot of Toyota's new cars aren't very photogenic, but they look pretty sharp in person.

Isn't there some auto show coming up where Toyota will probably reveal it?

spicyricecake 02-11-2016 12:04 PM

For the record, the BRZ STI concept looked dope, so maybe Subaru is upping its design game... which means the BRZ refresh COULD look better.

Geneva is right around the corner, last year it was during the 1st-2nd weeks of March.

Rear lights (tails) are ugly. I just had my coffee and noticed them. eww... I call for REDO!

You can count on there not having fangs, that's for sure.

I expect it to look cleaner and more simplified, I hope it keeps the mustache since I like it.

Again... Just a rendered guess on somebody's part. Could be accurate could not be. If accurate then a lot of guys will love them since so many swap to something similar already. But then again as soon as they become stock the guys that loved them as aftermarket will hate them just because they are stock. Same goes for rims usually.

Actually the fangs are one thing that show clearly in the camo pic. Now they could be two pieces of scrap taped on under the camo wrap just to mess with people's heads...

WARNING: SPECULATION ALERT!
These comments made me go back and look for any badging on the camo mules. There are none that I could find and not sure how much impact there would be if there was anyway.
Just gonna throw out there that this could BE the BRZ and not the 86. Everybody sort of presumed that it was the 86 but not sure that this was confirmed officially by Toyota and/or Subaru.

WRBrzRX 02-11-2016 01:25 PM

on the plus side the winglets on the spoiler look much better than the the original one they pulled off a 90s Grand Prix

I could be wrong, but previously it was the Toyota's car who sported a particular license plate number. Subaru could use Toyotas plate, but I doubt it, its probably Toyota people testing Toyota car.

Overall Im not impressed with render, but I doubt its going to be exactly that. I do hope for the best. At same time, if I don't like it, I have one more reason to be happy with my FR-S (not like I was looking to trade it for latest and greatest anyway).

.

Ahhh yes, now that you say that I do recall someplace in this or another thread that somebody pointed out that was the standard Toyota Mule plate. I doubt they would screw around with that just to try to disguise things.

The front bumper and garnishes in the render just looked so BRZish that the guys BRZ comments got me wondering. Certainly not a theory I am passionate about and figured I would just throw it in to the mix.
