I want to know this also.... Someone from Aus with there 86 please let us know?...

If we hook this up can this be our '3rd' light and can get rid of the one in the back window?

I haven't literally checked on the back when i have turned it on. but yes we do have the little ring on the indicator stick to turn the front and rear fogs on lol

But would love to get this implemented to use as a brake light :D

Please check.....

If it is functioning im going to see an auto electrician about rewiring as a brake light and deleting the window brake completely regardless of if its legal or not....

With the aero wing my rear view will be minimal as it is...... The 3rd brake light HAS TO GO..........

For those curious about the legality of having a rear fog, they are definitely 100% legal in the US. As long as the light shines red and is in the center or driver's side rear of the vehicle you will be fine. I've ran a rear fog light on 2 of my previous Subarus here in MD and VA and never got hassled.

There is also rear fog etiquette that a few people have mentioned in this thread as well. You should only be using this light in inclement weather to help drivers behind you gauge their distance from you. That's the only use for the light. It's not a 4th brake light. You already have 3 brake lights, you don't need 4. If you think you need a flashing "F1 style" 4th brake light on public streets because people behind you keep tailgating you and you are slamming on your brakes at every traffic light, you probably need to reevaluate your driving style instead.

What ever u say dad... I suppose we must be presumed to be the ones at fault when tailgated or rear ended.... After all thats how the law sees it... Well done, good post....http://files.sharenator.com/stupid_f...220-162497.jpg

Anyway......

Mate took a photo of an 86 at fast food restaurant... He says the fog light was on the whole time so obviously in Australia ours doesnt come on when only braking... We never get fog here in W.A so ill be looking into getting the 3rd(window) light disconnected and removed and having the fog light as my 3rd...... http://i1048.photobucket.com/albums/...ce/photo-9.jpg

What?? When did I say anything about anyone being at fault? I was posting information about what this light is actually supposed to be used for, and it's definitely not a 4th brake light. Having one more brake light on the back of your car isn't going to magically make people stop tailgating you or running into you at a stop light. The whole purpose of the light is to make it easier to judge the distance from the rear of your car when the weather is bad. That's it.

Disconnecting your third brake light is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. It's placed up high in the back window so that it's closer to eye level for drivers behind you. Moving that brake light down to your rear fog is going to make it harder for people to see because of how low it sits and will actually hurt you in the long run.

U presume we are slamming our brakes on at lights and getting tailgated which is why we need F1 lights or whatever.....

In regards to myself deleting my window light i dont condone anyone doing this.... I am doing it because i have the aero wing and my rear view is too restricted.... Its not legal nor safe redirecting the window light to the fog light but i will be taking other measures to make people aware when im slowing down....

Maybe ill have a neon sign i stick out the window that says stop and wave it around whenever im slowing down.....https://encrypted-tbn3.google.com/im...t6vwvKwG48AvHq

I brought that up because someone mentioned that earlier in the thread. I wasn't trying to call anyone out in particular about the whole F1 light thing. I think flashing lights on the back of your car on public roads are illegal anyway so I wouldn't recommend it. For the track it might work well though.

I like your neon sign idea...but I don't think it's JDM enough...;)

Oooh, I think I get it now.is it a whole new lightt on it or is it just like a brighter setting on the light itself? I know that they are some cars with fog lights on the top but I didn't know that there wree ones in the back.

but he had my car for a good 2 hours!

all he did was wire it to the taillight constant wire. I soldered mine to the taillight constant and a second light/wire to the brake light so that it was brighter when the brakes were depressed.

Is there a switch?

FRES86 07-13-2012 02:04 PM

I just had this mod done to my car, but I wired it as a brake light. Completley custom. I am going to get a relay that makes it flash 5 times and then solid. Looks awesome

86design 07-13-2012 09:08 PM

yeah its very easy...not hard...i've seen some people do installs and posted on here...but there doing it the hard way by soldering the wires...when its just getting the right connectors...
