Interesting that Focus ST fanbois were claiming it would whoop the BRZ stock v. stock, but they were actually within ~1 second of each other.

Also interesting that the BRZ was faster than the MK7 GTI.

Everyone calls VIR grand a power track, but seems like it's a mix of both.

Yeah the Mercedes has a big power advantage over the STI and VIR really highlighted the advantage vs say Streets of Willow Springs where Pobst drove both cars back to back and the STI came out ahead:

If you are somebody who wants more power/straight-line speed the Mercedes might be worth the extra cost, but if you prefer more precise handling the STI is probably the better choice.

If Subaru would put in a more modern and faster engine in the STI, it would make a lot of these comparisons a no-brainer at it's pricepoint.

What year are these results?

Yeah I think for the majority of drivers, the MB with its nicer interior and better straight-line speed will be the more appealing choice.

The FA20t will find its way into the STI eventually, it's just a matter of time.

2014. Again, these are unofficial, leaked results. Cannot vouch for their authenticity.

Not sure why people claim Subaru's AWD is superior.

Because, honestly, it's the best AWD system I have ever driven. That's not from a "which can turn the fastest lap around a dry track" standpoint - that's not something I particularly care about with AWD. Rather, Subaru's is fantastic at maintaining control while throttle-steering around on an icy or gravelly surface. For AWD, that's what I care about. That isn't to say that others are bad, but the way Subaru has set theirs up, it makes driving fairly quickly on a low-traction surface feel effortless and easily controllable.

2014. Just released in this month's issue (October).

Honestly, I don't know why I stated the Mercedes was 10 seconds faster, lol. Obviously I confused the STI with the regular WRX :bonk:

As to the Focus ST being able to hang with a BRZ...VIR was repaved this year, and a few corners were modified a bit (i.e. widened). Rumor has it the changes are worth around 2 seconds. So if you added 2 seconds to the Focus ST's time...even less impressive :D

So how do you think the BRZ/FRS would have done this year?

WolfpackS2k 09-09-2014 09:37 AM

Take 2 seconds off it's time from last year. That's really the best you can do.
