Oh I never noticed that my controller is labeled both DS3 and SixAxis.

When T13R posted he'd used a SixAxis a couple days ago, I hadn't heard of it, so I googled and found that there is a PS3 wheel called SixAxis.

Now that you mention it, that looks like a kid's toy rather than a proper racing wheel, so I'm assuming T13R also was referring to the pre-DS3 version of the PS3 controller.

Thanks for the photo and link; I'll clarify this in the OP.

Now the difference between six axis and dual shock is just the shock it self. Regular six axis controller from the first gen ps3 has no vibrantion built into it. That is known as a six axis controller ,six axis refer to the motion control sensor which allow you to move the controller around and the ps3 will detect it similar to a wii mote. But with dual shock 3 its six axis combined with dual shock tech in one controller.that is a dualshock 3

Thanks for the info.

Sorry for the confusion guys, I still have my original non-DS3 pad. I use it when my DS3 is not charged. I don't know if it really makes much of a difference to have the rumble or not, just figured I would be specific.

Thanks for the clarification dsgerbc, I guess I need to try harder like you said, although at the moment .4 or .5 is the most I can expect to gain. I'll have to look at your replay to see where I'm going wrong. I still say yours is a fast lap!

^I should be able to hit 41s @Laguna, but so far I can't put decent sectors together.

I'm in complete awe at the times you guys are posting for the top gear test track. I've literally seen every episode of top gear and I've only just now bothered to unlock the top gear test track (VW van race was way too boring). It's just now that I'm realizing how technical this course is. It really makes you HAVE to hit every corner just perfectly.

For Wilson I think I go a little bit tighter than the racing line would suggest Chicago is where I'm losing most of my time. Hammerhead is tricky but I think I know how to hit that right. For followthrough I give it just a dab of brake in 4th gear and then power through it while trying to stay close to the cones and then flat out through Bentley while nipping that little corner just the way you're supposed to. And then the rest of the track I'm pretty much good.

Maybe I'm losing time by using the 6MT instead of paddles but since I have the 350mm steering wheel the paddles are a bit of a hassle to use. Any advice guys??

Here is a picture of the track for those unfamiliar with turn names.

Import and watch our ghost replays for tips if you haven't.

Paddles + left-foot braking = faster than clutch.

I stay on the throttle during the followthrough.

I turned off the racing line over a month ago and I'll never use it again. Note that it's disallowed, but I'm OK with changing that restriction if others want to use it (it doesn't provide any sort of advantage anyway... it's just a crutch). Anyone else want to weigh in on this?

BTW, I raced more yesterday and beat my time, but not by enough to bother submitting it (1:22.865). I had two runs where I was ~0.250 faster, but I pushed it too much and blew the last corner. Then came the yelling and cursing. :D

I'm confident that 1:22.4xx (and maybe even faster) is possible on this track, but I'm not consistant enough to get anywhere near it.

Turning off the racing lines might be turning people away from entering this competition (at least it kept me away, initially). I practiced with them on first to get an idea of how to attack each corner then realized I could brake later at some points so I turned them off and shaved seconds off my best times.

OK, I updated the rules to allow it.

Yeah, I did like 22.5x yesterday after being down .1x after the first sector, so it's possible. I doubt I'm even gonna try to hit it though.
Gonna post my replay over the weekend.

I'll have the pic up tomorrow and ghost lap replay is saved. I still see another .3 seconds to reach my new ideal lap. This is becoming ridiculously addictive, an hour passed by so quickly tonight...

Spent some more time w/o improvement, so I think I'm done with this. Can't break into 41s :(

Top Gear
1:22.553 - dsgerbc - CSRE - Paddles

Laguna Seca
1:42.123 - dsgerbc - CSRE - Paddles

Also tried stock gt86, restricted to 200hp in speed test. Best I can do is 6.1x in 0-60 and 14.9x in 1/4 mile.

Another 0.2 off on Laguna Seca is pretty good with what your previous time was. I'm glad I had you as a reference or I would have stopped trying long ago. I don't think I'll be able to match your time, but a 42.5 is what I'd like to get before the month ends, another 0.3 to go.
