after re-sealing the plate (30 min job) with toyota black sealant, and doing a fair few high temp runs, it was not leaking, but only time will tell.... this particular car was july build, but only had 1500km on it

Sounds reasonable to me. I forgot about resealing mine this weekend. I would tell most people to just take it to the dealership. It is easy to have them stick their hand down there and feel the oil and it is easy to get to and unbolt, so I think even a dealership should be able to handle resealing it.

Just got back from the dealership for oil change and I had they check the plate. They did not see a leak but they did check the bolts and now the service manager is aware of the issue. As I go to a low volume Scion dealership, they don't see too many of the FRSs come through and it was still a first time seeing the car for many of the guys so it drew a crowd.

I have the leak too. I'll repair mine when I change my oil.

I finally was able to check mine yesterday and i found it fairly oily on the bottom. I tried prying the plate off after taking out the bolts, but wasn't comfortable with the amount of force it was gonna take (didn't want to bend it) so i reinstalled the bolts and cleaned up what i could. Hopefully the"new snug" is enough.

I have a leak too. Been stinky and to dealer once about it. They blew it off as coating placed on it for open container shipping over the ocean. 10k now. Going to contact dealer tomorrow.

People that have performed this fix themselves, do you have pictures?

Haven't noticed a smell, but did find this tonight after parking my car for 3 hrs.

Oil level looks good though so it must be a slow leak, maybe at the top of the engine somewhere. Maybe from that plate? I'll check in the day time.

A nickel for refrence

Definitely get that checked out. If that's from one 3-hr sitting, I'd worry about a significant leak.

Never have seem any oil on the ground. All burns off on the exhaust.

sw20kosh 02-26-2013 08:05 PM

Had it checked. It was a leak from the oil drain plug. Fixed.

I checked on mine this weekend while changing the oil...no leak yet. FR-S #02955.

I have this leak too :(

Fixed at dealer. Took them 1 hour 45 minutes-ridiculous. They took off the plate, cleaned and resealed. Looks like a good fix. I took a little WD-40 and a rag and cleaned all the burnt up oil off the exhaust. Haven't driven to test smell yet. Keeping my hopes up. Now onto the rear deck popping issue!
