You are vastly in the minority with those statements alone, your families support, even with just decent guidance to get you where you are if not the capability to act as an outright safety net easily puts you into very small percentage who will weather this storm with minimal negative impacts.

Do you realize that less than 10% of US households bring in over $120k per year? <5% bring home >$200k, and even people bringing in that kind of money dig themselves into financial holes and will be battered by this economic turn.

And 5,000 temps employed by vendors qualifies as TMC employees? Don't think so and where is the link for context?

So far today, I've disproved all of your hysterical claims, which wasn't difficult.

Now we're, in your mind, to assume forgoing two days of pay if and only if paid time off wasn't banked, as furloughed?

The contract employees were still Toyota paid.

You have not disproved one thing. Just thrown unsubstantiated "deals" that may or may not actually be available.

None of my claims are "hysterical" they are the limited facts I can give you. If you chose to ignore them that is fine. All you have is regurgitated internet materials that you can spin however you want.

My story has changed several times as the information has changed and hopefully I can come back next week and say "never mind they figured it out" but I am doubtful that will happen. I will be more than happy to stand up and say "I was wrong"!

Two days without pay is not full pay. It may not be termed as furlough but it is a partial one. They will be taking more steps as this goes on. They are not immune. Even if they were all the companies that make parts for them are not. Hard to sell a car with no steering wheel or tires.

Now go back to your till and ring in that Big Mac.

Meh I am used to it. Some people don't like to hear that their imaginary little vison of the auto industry is not what it appears in magazines and the internet.
The reality is it is one of the most seriously fucked up systems there ever was (yes even Toyota) and doesn't deal with sudden changes well. All of the top dogs are running around right now screaming "OHSHITOHSHITOHSHIT" and even the best are going to have to adjust their ways.
My only message through all this has been to not expect the normal things to happen and forget what the companies said, planned or did even a month ago but somehow that just can not be believed by some. They think that it will blow over and everything will be just dandy with cars overflowing from the lots and dealers that will want to unload them for almost free.

yep. i was talking to some guy's during lunch today about it, and they seemed shocked when i started explaining how absolutely tiny some suppliers are-- maybe just making a few specific buttons/knobs. and how shuttering the industry the way they did is going to have huge ramifications to these little companies.

then i tried explaining how it can take months to tool-up/down any company, not to mention the months it takes just to hash out the contract with each of these individual suppliers...

it was like explaining where babies come from to a grade school class

there's a reason there's not new car companies sprouting up everywhere!

This explains why I like Canadian beer. Please have another. Like I've said before, you make me laugh!

It's OK, I understand why you're stuck in middle management with time to spare unconcerned with advancement beyond time in grade and pension vesting. We need drones to carry out the mundane tasks pretending to be important under the guise of "we're in this together".

LOL A so little do you know. My pension will SUCK. They took it all away in the 2008 recession and we didn't get anything back until 2017. It will now all go away again as the second largest parts manufacturer in the world fights for it's financial life.

Now go ask if they want fries.

Then you chose the wrong place to spend your working life.

My company pension is 125% funded. Still not comparable to inflation adjusted government pensions but I can't complain, the worldwide travel is worth more than that. Perks of working for a Fortune Global 10 Multinational.

True colors coming out. We're all very impressed.

Well if you see a bunch of pickup trucks careening down the road because they have no brakes you know we didn't make it through.
