My OFT wont write to the ecu so I am assuming that means that the ECU is locked. My question is if I borrow someone dongle and cable can I see if it is locked with ECUtek or will it not tell me? Sorry if this is a dumb question I am just trying to figure out the most cost effective way to tune my vehicle at this point.
If it was ECUtek then would it be possible for me to just keep using the license married to my ecu? |
yes you can can check, plug in ecutek cable, run ProEcu on windows' laptop and do Tools, detect vehicle, query ecu
it will say directly if you a licence to let oft flash, you need to flash a stock tune from ecutek database, but you will loose your ecutek licence forever, once you flash with oft |

Most cars with ecutek tunes will jave multi maps. With engigne runing and cruise control switched off, try pulling cruise stalk towards you if taco jusps to 1000,2000,3000, or 4000 then yoh have ecutek multi map tune. You ecu may also have been tuned with brzedit |

Good news is yes you have ecutek licience worth $300 in ecu and its reusable. And yes you could buy ecutek cable\dongle kit and reuse licience. Bad news is you dont know what the tune is set up for and whats on the up to 4 maps. And ecutek has no READ facility so you cannot read out and inspect the current tune |

You dont need new licience, they are reusable and embedded in ecu. You will need cable kit ie cable and dongle. Then a tune, if your csr is NA can help you out with ecutek tune Then you can just sell oft they hold value pretty well |
Hi All,
I recently purchased a used EcuTek Pro kit that included the cable and usb dongle. How can I check if this has already been flashed to the previous owner's car? I want to check/verify this before I go ahead and purchase a new EcuTek license. Please help, I've tried searching the forums and couldn't find an answer! Thanks in advance. |

Also run query ecu on your car to see if it has kicience in ecu |

I ran the ECU update and License update on my vehicle. I then did the Query ECU as suggested and it says Licenses in ECU (No licenses present in ECU). Does that mean I need to purchase a new license for my ECUtek kit? Thanks, V. |

After trying what you said - I get the message of "0 flash points currently on license key". Does that mean it has already been flashed to the previous owner's car? Thanks. |

Checking licience info on ecutek software tells you if your dongle id has any flash points or licience left on the dongle id. Doing a query ecu on the ecu in a car tell you if the ecu in that vehicle has a licience\flash points in ecu. If ecu has licience\flash points then you can flash that ecu, you dont nedd licience \flash points on dongle id. If you jad points on dongle id then you can flash a ecu with no licience. |
