I lost my Tactrix :( this might be a blessing in-disguise so I stop fucking with my tune!

Thaeyo 12-21-2018 12:43 PM

So I'm pretty new to Tactrix, but familiar with OFT. I've been reading up on posts for the past 2 weeks. Just need some guidance if I'm doing this correctly.

1)Download ECUFlash
2)Save 32BITBASE from GitHub and put it in corresponding file
3)Read my ECU and got CALID: ZA1JA01D (MY13 AT FR-S)

Next, should I update my stock ECU ROM to the newer ZA1JB01D stock ROM before proceeding with using OFT V2 Stage 1 tunes specific to "B"?

If my understanding is correct, this will be my new stock ROM from now on and won't need to backtrack to the "A"?

Yes B01D is latest compatable stock rom for your car,

Yes no reason to use older A01D again

1)Appreciate the help! Ran into a confusing step. I downloaded the ZA1JB01D in the attachment below, the file is in a hex format, whereas the Github is a xml file which I understand is the correct file format to write with ECUFlash?

2)Following the next step, "Place this file eg.(ZA1JB01D.xml) in directory:
C:\Program Files\OpenECU\EcuFlash\rommetadata\subaru\BRZ\2012 \". I have a 2012, 2013, and a 2014 folder in the specified areas. I assume deleting everything in the 2012 folder before placing my XML file there or am I suppose to use the corresponding folder to my vehicle?

3)My ultimate goal is to flash the OFT V2 Stage 1 tune. Do I need to modify the XML files provided by OFT, or can I just flash it directly?

churchx 12-22-2018 02:31 AM

One burns binary firmware. In xml file are referenced addresses/locations of data/numbers/tables in specific version of binary firmware, that during tuning of tune phase can be changed, after which tuning software should regenerate binary/recalculate checksums and such, so you can burn resulting - binary - firmware to ecu.
So you need both binary to mod, xml file for software to know how to mod it, and resulting binary to burn. Unless it's premoded/pretuned/OTS firmware blob with everything predone, that you can burn w/o changing anything. Not xml file.

to flash a B01D rom you just need the ECUFLASH B01D definition in a subdirectory

C:\Program Files\OpenECU\EcuFlash\rommetadata\subaru\BRZ\201x \
doesnt matter if its in 2012,2013,2014 any one will do

if your not editing rom then you wont need the oft xml file is a romraider definition , not and ecuflash definition and they are different.

If you want to edit the rom use romraider and the oft definition

as churchx said

.bin fiel is the tune/rom file
.xml is the definition ie the index into rom file
this might be a romraider xml (oft supply romraider defs only)
or and ecuflash xml. ecuflash xml contain additional info about how to flash the rom that romraider does not

also read my romraider tips link in my signiture

this video might help you out with ecuflash

I think my eyes are deceiving me but, I can't seem to find the definition (.bin) files for the stock ROM?

ZA1J700C is a very old calid and was superceeded by factory updates A00C A01C B00C and B01C.

You best option is to use B01C roms and definitions

If you want to save your old 700C rom see the first post for cfeating a flash only def and saving your old rom you read out. But its best just to update it to a B01C rom. That is jist flash it to a B01C..

Im assuming your car is a USA manual likely 2012.

I did not inspect the roms in your link but the name was B01D these roms are not compatavle with your car as they are for auto car. not manual as you said your original calid was 700C.

If your using openflash rom you need to be aware they calid hack a lot of roms and this can confuse ecuflash and romraider.

Yes my car is a manual frs 2013 model year. So you’re saying just flash the B01C rom for the base tune for the car from now on? And that’s just the normal ZA1JB01C found from the list on the first post? Just making sure I have the right file to flash. Do you mind if I PM you if you don’t mind helping me through this?
