I would straight up call bs on that cop
I would cite the cincinatti ordinance that requires it to be no more than 95 decibals measured from 20 feet only allowing for a $25 dollar fine if it does on the first offense...
If you can I would suggest taking it to a certifying authority and getting a test result showing that it is within the allowed maximum. Jaden |
This is my opinion and i'm in no way telling you what to do. I'm not sure of the NY vehicle codes, but in CA there are laws protecting citizens against unlawful detentions. Everyone here is telling you just to prove that your car is stock, that it's under a certain Db, blah blah blah. I would start looking at the class of crime they are trying to get you for (infraction or misdemeanor) and depending on the crime and class, if they even have PC (probable cause) to continue to detain you or demand that you have to do something. If you were not given a cite at the time of incident, which it doesn't sound like you did then more than likely they are not following their dept. policies and procedures. Good law enforcement officers are there to help people and educate about the law. Not to harass and make their own rules and unfortunately some lose sight of that.

Perfect! You are your neighbors alarm and don't let them tell you any different lol!
I think it's worse where I'm at now because of the fence right behind me and how it's angled. |

There are iPhone apps that will measure decibels. You could use one to get an approximation of how loud you are. There's no way you will be over 90 decibels from 20 feet away if you are totally oem.

I leave for work at 5:15am and the cold start is pretty loud (all i have is the nameless axle-back). i turn on my car just before i open the garage door, put it in gear to lower the RPMs, then idle out of the garage. putting it in gear definitely helps quieten it.

Turns out it's not just me. Town council is working on a new noise ordinance because a bunch of the ricer boys in town have silly fart cans like the kid down the street and I just got caught in the melee. These kids like to play on the hill up to my street at night and sometimes it gets really loud so they assumed I was one of them I guess. There are some people that complained about him and sometimes when I pull out from the stop sign at the corner at 5:45am I make some noise too. I pulled a couple of pics of the bottom of the twins from different websites to show that mine is stock so that should cover it as well as a phone call that was made on my behalf from a sergeant in another town vouching for me. Apparently they have tested a bunch of cars already and still have more to go. Stupid shit...

mine with catless header and catback now starts quiter than stock with tune changes, it only effects cold start up phase and is well worth the effort. |
I would be interested to know how they are measuring the noise.
Interesting write up here: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=80085 that includes a brief section on how it is supposed to be measured.http://media.caranddriver.com/images...s-original.jpg |
