yea i would love to see that too, but im pretty sure that would mess with the balance of the car. not to mention how low the hood is ont this car and how low the engine would have to sit. cant wait to see how this new engine is gonna handle hp.

An SC 300 has a 2JZ-GT in it already and can make about 600 without a problem. An IS 300 is not a 4 door Supra!

A FR-S is not in the same class as a Supra decide what class of car you want and then you will know what to get. I say have both they both do different things well, that’s what I am doing.

Other than some dumb stuff people sometimes do to them Supra are very reliable and they hold their value very well. The people who have never owned a supra should do some more research before giving bad advice IMHO.

Building a SC300 up to stock Supra TT capabilities is not that hard. Building a SC330 to compete with an APU Supra cost just as much if not more than building a APU Supra and you don’t get the good resale that a Supra TT has so in the long run it cost a lot more. This has been gone over MANY MANY MANY times on supraforms.

Both the SC and IS have the same 2JZ-GE. And you will have trouble making 450 or so with NA-T without getting a GTE short block.

Yes both are GEs but other than the engine the IS300 is very different than a supra.(I was DD a IS till last week)

The main difference between a GT and A GTE short block is the oil squirters. There have been many drag cars with GT blocks making more than 800HP. I have a GTE and would rather have one for the Road Racing that I built my Supra for, but GT blocks are very capable.

Fuel Injectors and the Short Block.

And it's GE, not GT. The IS engine is not very different at all, except for the listed differences.

However, no sane person would run a GE Head when pushing big power, it's not nearly as capable as a GTE.

Yes my typo
The IS engine is the same but the car is quite different.
True but you can make 600 with it. The intake is a bigger problem than the head. But both are reasons y in the long run it cost more to build a big power SC or IS than a Supra.

I was on the same boat and recently bought my MKIV last summer instead of an FR-S. The Supra is legendary, bulletproof and the one I found in the midwest was damn near mint and unmolested.

After seeing the sort of a cheapness, the 1st year production issues and lack of Toyota quality, I've decided to wait until the hype goes down. I'd rather pick up a used one, a lease return or see what else Toyota plans to introduce.

The FR-S feels too paper mache to me and def not worth 27K OTD.

I have both, i say do it, when someone says the frs is low on power i just say i have another toyota to help me with that problem....

gymratter 02-28-2013 01:07 PM

wow so much hate towards the supra.

supras came as hardtops as well

new with warranty. Just as fun. more modern design. better mpg. better paint and interior. brand new ownership.

better paint and interior? have u ever sat in a MK4 supra? its interior is far superior to the frs.

its exterior is a timeless design. its was well ahead of its time. its a collectible car witch i dont think the frs will ever be.

+1, i bet alot of these idiots that are running their mouths have never even owned, sat in, or drove a MK4 supra.

Please do tell I'm been looking for a clean mk4 supra for a lng time and any that are tt and unmolested are asking 40k+. Here in Canada I can easily pick up a jdm mk4 for 15k give or take but I could never get use to driving rhd just doesn't feel comfortable to me especially left hand turns.

m.box.design 02-28-2013 02:47 PM

wow, older thread brought back to life. lol.
i personally was looking at used mkiv supras for several months up until the release of the fr-s. although i'm quite partial to the supra, there were none in the $20k range that made me confident in spending my hard earned cash on. the gems are definitely still 30-50k in price. all the ones i checked out were obviously driven hard and modified at one point in time.

just compare these local listings from craigslist.

95TT for 30k:
http://portland.craigslist.org/clc/cto/3642472023.html

93TT for 17k:
http://portland.craigslist.org/clk/cto/3619270789.html

94TT auto for 15k:
http://portland.craigslist.org/clk/cto/3620586881.html

The more appealing one is definitely more expensive. The other two look like major work.
