The other day I talked to a manager over at the subaru dealer just down the street from my house and he said the car is likely not going to be part of the VIP program, and hes going to have a tough time stretching the price down on a new sports model even for family members. Its his ass on the line, but hes pretty excited about the car and wasn't very impressed with the recent WRX STI, the manager said hes getting one of the early release BRZ.

My local manager said he would take it. Also if you read Giccin's group buy they claim they will take it. So the issue isn't whether dealers will take it cause many will, it is whether Subaru VIP will offer it the first year it is on sale. That is the question.

Just as Dave said. Also worth noting that a dealer might be more willing to offer the VIP on a factory order vs one on the lot.

Tranzformer, this little tid bit was very helpful information. I just spoke with the finance director from one of my local Subaru dealerships and they are willing to honor the VIP on a BRZ if do a factory order as opposed to taking one off the lot.

I hope to have a confirmation email shortly.

Can't wait until May when I am eligible for my new BRZ!

Thanks for the suggestion.

It says you have to be an active member for 6 months. Say I join LNT, do i have to do anything to be considered "active"? or can I just join and wait for 6 months later to call them for the papers?

You just have to be a member for 6 months.

Oh the flip side, the news on VIP is up in the air.. Subaru Customer Service will be getting back to me (hopefully)... in late feb.

I haven't seen anything official regarding BRZ on the VIP. I would take what the dealer says as a grain of salt. I'm in no rush to get FMY so I am willing to wait for VIP pricing/STI to be released. The dealer could just be saying that only to later say his bad and he was mistaken.

im getting my VIP membership later this year giving it some time to mature until im ready to buy in 3rd quarter 2013. Not just for the BRZ...i might trade my 03 Legacy Wagon GT for a 2012 Outback R

It's not solely a dealership decision. SoA blocked VIP pricing for the STi.

From Subaru regarding the BRZ on VIP pricing: "They (the VIP department) have not yet been advised by executive management if the BRZ will be available to purchase through the VIP."

Ahhh, so the dealer is probably full of it.

Dave, when was that quote from?

Well dealer is only semi full of it. If the VIP program is offered they'll likely honor it. They just may not have the chance.

The quote is from my email communication with SoA customer service.

Can any ordinary person become a VIP member and receive the discount? I'm confused... :iono:

I joined LNT as a "student" member for $20. What else do I need to do other than wait 6 months from now?

Outbacks are great for a family car. Have you considered the upcoming XV?

I think he is speaking of when the STI first came out it wasn't on the VIP list. It is currently.
