OMG that looked so fun! What a great track. I need to fire up GT5 tonight and race it now!

Woah pulling some serious negative G's there! :bonk:

Curious to see the write up of your track day on 86drive.com though. Did your GT5 training come in handy at all?

LOL yeah the g-meter was off on that session, seems to not calibrate right some times.

GT5 was helpful for reacquainting myself with the course layout beforehand. Also nice to be able to virtually drive a BRZ and see where the gearing will put you and where you will probably have to shift. As a "intermediate beginner" I think I quickly realized that I shouldn't bother downshifting in most spots, just concentrate on the racing line, braking points, and appropriate corner entry speeds. Most of the course can be taken in 3rd-4th gear, with maybe 2 corners that are slow enough to warrant 2nd gear. One thing GT5 (or any virtual simulator) can't impress on you though, is the elevation changes you'll encounter at Laguna. Everyone remembers their first time dropping through the Corkscrew for a long time. :)

Finally got some time to sit down and look through my gopro footage from the weekend. Overall, the tow-hook mount worked pretty good, the location of the camera still had a lot of wind noise, but at least it got a little bit of engine noise. Angle was pretty good, with a good view of what's ahead, but tilted a little too low (staring right at the pavement), but those are minor adjustments

I finally got an external mic for cheap but then realized my gopro was too old and didn't have the external mic plug :bonk: oh well, i guess its time for a HD Hero 3 :D

Chase cam of @RC51ed and @oofie in the distance on Redwood Rd.

niiiiice! I didn't even realize you were filming on the way back to CV. that looks awesome now I need to find a way to make use of my front tow hook or the Grimmspeed plate mount as a GoPro mount.

A number of 86/FRS/BRZ owners were at the NCRC track day at Laguna Seca last weekend, including yours truly. What a fantastic day out on the track. This is my second time at this track, but the last time was over 10 years ago in my MR2! So I fired up the PS3 and got some virtual practice in before the big day. Don’t laugh, GT5 was very helpful for reacquainting myself with the course layout beforehand. Also nice to be able to virtually drive a BRZ and see where the gearing will put you and where you will probably have to shift. Exploring these little details beforehand means you don’t have to think about it as much the day of the event. Certainly there are plenty of things to think about as it is. ...

hey DRIVE junkies,
some of you have already noticed the "Drivers" page on 86DRIVE and sent me photos/links to add to the page. Just wanted to mention it, if you want to be included on the list and/or have pics of your ride added to it, just drop me a line at info@86drive.com :D

http://86drive.com/drivers/

This is the info we will include:

your FT86Club username (First name): Year and model of car – Color (car’s nickname if you have one)
