@MemphisR sorry, thought you were talking about the gauge cluster. Not sure what I was smoking when I read it the first time. Lets try this gain:

The HU is actually a Ca-Fa Dashlinq4. The white is stock.

I have no idea what Ca-Fa Dashlinq4 means. Mine is orange stock. I will send you a picture at some point

It's an aftermarket head unit.

Hi I had a question... what type of lights am I suppose to order for the BRZ cluster? You said it wasn't too hard so im just trying to see as to if this is actually something that I can do by myself. I either want to change all of mine to white or to blue.

Just out of curiousity have you made this very detailed video? I am trying to change mine I already have the pink bought and was wondering if this was made. Thanks :)

Then after you finish stripping and painting(I painted the bottom flat white, though I did also buy gloss white, and silver) the needles, you insert them back into the casing(take note as the clear plastic of the needles are thin and flex a lot, they might be easy to break). Then put the black cover back over the clear part and eight use the soldering iron the melt the cover to the remaining black tab to keep it closed, or there might be enough of a lip to just snap it back on.

I am thinking about buying another gauge cluster from eBay and making a very detailed video. I didn't this last time because I started working on it last minute and was kinda rushing to get it done.

Edit: I wonder how pink would look... I think purple wouldn't be too bad.

I haven't yet. It got pushed to the back burner and a friend is using my GoPro at the moment. I'll look at doing that here in the coming weeks though. I'll let you know.

Hi I was curious as to if you could help me.. I was doing the ac part of the brz.. and for some reason some lights are working and the others aren't? Is there something I am doing wrong with the soldering? Is there a way to actually burn out the LED light it self is there an issue with having to much solder.

Is it the same speaker as the seatbelt chime? We don't have the overspeed chime in the USDM cars.

First of all thanks for the great tutorial. I was able successfully swap my led's on my cluster gauges, but when I put everything back together I noticed that my needles don't do the sweeping motion when turning on the car. Any one know how to correct that?

You have to set the shift light again, only the brz does the sweeping, while the fr-s gauges shows u where u set the shift light on start up

Does anyone have advice/pictures on taking apart the start button? Two of my friends and I are working on redoing the entire interior of my car and none of us could figure out how to get to the LED in the start button without breaking the assembly. We've all searched the forums and googled to no avail. Any help is appreciated!

stevesnj 09-08-2015 05:42 PM

I would think that it's made to not come apart for theft protection.

Door "window and lock" LED's

does anyone by chance know the type of LED that is used in the door? I was able to get everything changed over to blue but the LED's in the door are different from what is used on the console.

I did try the larger LED's but they did not work (left one original LED installed to verify if I soldered backwards.

If this is the one you're speaking of its a T10 wedge bulb.

Na, already replaced that. Im talking about the actual window and lock switch LED's in the door (by the speaker).

Thanks though.

According to CJBRZ, the door LEDs are 0805:

Just finished this up going to play around with gauge cluster a little more until I get exactly what I want, but for for anyone else who wants to do this, the correct LED sizes on the are as followed:

Dual Climate Control, Clock, Traction Control, Gauge Cluster are PLCC-2

Dim switch and headlight angle switch are 3mm LEDs.

Trunk open button is a single 0603

The doors and radio are 0805

On a different note, were you able to replace the LED in the start button? If you were, how did you get to the LED to replace it? A friend of mine and I could not figure out how to get to it without breaking the assembly. Thank you in advance for your help!

Kellhound 09-17-2015 09:33 AM

I did take it apart but was too nervous when I saw it was wired like an electro magnet. I also could not figure out how to remove the white plastic slider without breaking any tabs. Sadly, it's still red.

Kellhound 09-17-2015 10:01 AM

3mm round tops? Or the piranha's?

dssence 09-27-2015 09:21 PM

Guys does anyone know if the gauge cluster the entire assembly is replaceable. I'm asking this as I have a toyota 86 not GT , its same as scion frs.
I want to buy a spare gauge cluster just in case so I leave my original untouched. some people the gauge cluster it paired with the ECU of the car but I don't think so.
What do you guys think or know about this.

It IS tied to the ECU and car keys via the immobilizer. The car will not start after cluster swap unless you take it to the dealer and the cluster is programmed to the immobilizer.

Wow I supposed it had something to do with the ECU. Is that simple doing it myself , the car dealer is so stupid over here Id rather prefer doing it myself. The inmobilizer does have an eeprom within the gauge cluster itself? so I will have to clone the gauge cluster data into the new one ? basically?
Can you point me towards a thread or guide about this. I'd be grateful

Guys can you make me a HUGE favor. Would you take a close up picture of the gauge cluster, those of you who got it handy already dissasembled. I've been checking some pics and it's a matter of reading the contents of the EEPROM chip on the gauge cluster.
That could be easily made with an eeprom flasher and flashing it back to the spare gauge cluster wanting to be replaced.
So I need those close up pictures to locate where the eeprom chip is, what kind the eeprom chip package is soic, plcc etc. And the manufacturer of the eeprom chip also.
Thanks. If It's as simple as that it's a piece of cake.

What size are the hvac twist bulbs? t5?

Question for you all since you seem to be more knowledgable than me on the topic. I have my cluster out and taken apart, and would like to disable a few lights (TPMS, CEL, ABS, TC...). Can I just desolder and remove the LED's, or will that cause a problem? For example, on my excursion when the airbag light was burnt out, it would beep 5x repeatedly every hour.

Thanks guys

Pwolf 12-11-2015 10:07 AM

No idea... Only one way to find out... let us know how it goes :P

Just put electrical tape over them. Easiest way with no threat of anything going wrong.

xFury 12-11-2015 02:00 PM

So the only way to change the LED is to solder them back on is that correct?

How did you get your screens blue? I'm kind of worried to order some of the stuff I've seen

ort895 01-25-2016 07:58 PM

Really want to do this, i think the frs white led look is more clean.

Should just be a matter of replacing the LEDs that illuminate the screen with blue ones.

That's what I thought, but from what I've seen everybody has used transparent blue vinyl

Beechnut87 01-27-2016 12:28 PM

That would be awesome if it could be that simple, I would pay someone to do the scary part of resoldering everything

No. You have to replace the LEDs. The only thing the blue vinyl is used for is if you want to do the Tick marks a different color than the numbers. They are illuminated by the same LED. So to get Blue ticks, and white numbers, you have to cover the ticks with the Vinyl.
