The first two will be the stock behavior (drls turn off when headlights turn on), "lithium" behavior (drls on all the time), and "pulse" behavior which will allow you to dim the drls while the headlights are on. Hardest part will be finding subaru\ toyota connections.

Can you post how to just setup the pulse behavior for those of us who have already completed the mod?

Yes, I will accomplish this over the weekend. The PWM circuit I bought has been sitting on my desk for the past week.

Count me in on the P n P when it opens up

Everone has been added. Thanks @Lithium.

Someone posted a good site for OEM connectors around. I'll look for it today and link it here.

Thanks for organizing this, I will move all PnP related discussions to this Thread and let our DIYers enjoy this one.

please add me to the list, Stock behaviour unless dimming is available

thanks

I'm in for dimming option :)

dumb question, but does this mod affect the cabin lights at all (i.e. will the gauge, center console lights turn on as if parking lights mode was selected)?

horatioo 05-28-2014 11:27 PM

count me in for the lithium option!

Completed this project thanks to @marcoaferrer soldering skillz, the results are awesome!

Did anyone figure out for sure which Toyobaru connectors to buy for a plug-and play harness? I'd like to do it that way instead--without having to junk yard dive for some connectors.

Also how would you make the DRL source wire plug-and play? I guess you'd have to follow the harness there to where it plugs in. So maybe you'd need 4 connectors on both sides:
1 male headlight
1 female headlight
1 male DRL
1 female DRL

Following this wiring diagram to see if I can figure it out. But wiring diagrams are confusing as fak.
*Edit* Looks like A38 (RH side) and A60 (LH Side) Although they look like the same connector.

Going to try this soon!

My Local store only had 6A, 100V Diodes, Will this be OK?

trinxified 08-16-2014 04:08 AM

Umm... on my 2015 BRZ Series.Blue, The second option upwards after "AUTO" already does this... I notice the regular DRL turn off though when you're e-brake is up.

What's the difference?

First, it's not just your special "Series.Blue" that does this, they all do, we all know this, and this has been mentioned.
Second, it's not the same thing, and the whole point of this thread was so we don't have to do that. Reason being, turning the stalk to that position is the same as turning the headlights on, the dash and radio dims, the side markers turn on, the lights stay on when you turn the car off. We were trying to (and have achieved) actual automatic boomerang daytime running lights.

Cdub998 09-08-2014 09:37 AM

Hey Guys, quick question. I just did this mod this weekend and only wired up the left side. Both sides work and everything is lit up (only used the single diode method). Is there any need to do the other side if everything is working?

Cdub998 09-09-2014 10:59 AM

Ha. Nevermind with that. I see what happened. At night the auto works and everything comes on. DRLS and Boomerangs. But in the day the DRLs and only 1 boomerang came on. Damn I have to wire the other side now.

Lotta people on this thread and the PnP one seem to prefer the stock behavior (or dimmed DRLs with headlights). Would the DRLs at full brightness at night really be annoying to drivers or something? I think it would look good with them on but don't want to cause issues on the road.....

At somewhat close distances they would be kind of annoying but I doubt they're bright enough to cause any real concern.
I can drive through my neighborhood (15mph) with just the leds on and see just fine.

Just did mine, next will be the mod to make them brighter

So has any one managed to create a plug-n-play harness for this mod?

Or does anyone have suggestions on what kind of taps to use so I don't have to solder?

I'm feeling apprehensive about soldering the green wire while its still in the car, and I'd rather not have to remove the headlights just so I can comfortably solder that one wire. I've had bad luck with past projects (not on the BRZ) where I'd accidentally melt plastic because I wasnt being careful enough.

TL;DR: Yes, and Diode Dynamics took over the project a few months back. It's due sometime this month or next.

Ah-hah... thank you sir, I missed that since I found this thread via google.

Replied to that thread to get myself on the list, or whatever list Diode Dynamics is doing now.

Thanks!

Made a quick schematic of both... should be correct. Although you might as well get the PnP kit from Diode Dynamics, it has PWM dimming for the DRLs when the headlights are on.
