:thanks:

Actually there was a Red one sold for 22k about a year or two ago in SoCal that I was looking at and was ready to give a check to for 20k but someone 1up'd me before the deal was done. F***ER

Spaceywilly 05-04-2012 07:41 PM

That car is from Gaylordsville... Heh

Xlr8 05-04-2012 09:55 PM

Nope another car did not lure me away from a FR-S/BRZ. I went and got a new motorcycle. Victory Crossroads. I'll kick the new car can down the road probable a year or two. Until then I have an awesome new motorcycle to ride. :thanks:

Wow, it's an actual place. I thought it was a fake auction at first when I saw that.

Sounds like a place a 12 year old would tell another he was from.

Allch Chcar 05-05-2012 12:22 AM

The listing already expired?

It's an old and obscure family name.

Since I first learned about FRS in December, 2011, I have caved in to Veloster (Feb, 2012) and then to a Miata (April, 2012). I hope FRS feels like a roofed Miata. That would be so fun.

Having just driven BOTH within the past 3 weeks, i Can definitely say that you won't be disappointed:thumbup:. I drove the AP2 S2000 recently too. I wouldn't compare the FRS to that as much, just because i find the s2000 has a little more aggressive, almost nervous, driving character. The FR-S is definitely more miata than S2000.

Think i will give up my first 86 spot up...I will eventually buy it in a couple of years. Got a 2 year old and another one on the way. The only vehicle we have right now is my X-Runner. Wife is thinking 2013 CX-5.

:(

Sucks when life gets in the way. I was in that same spot (but it was 23 years ago). 1985 MK1 MR2 with 200K "every mile a smile" on it died. One kid, one on the way. Practicality required replacement with a family vehicle.

It's a fair trade.

I agree. It'll be a bit selfish for me to get the FR-S before we get a CUV or a family vehicle. Either way, it's not the end, i'll pick up the FR-S in a couple of years.
Dadhawk; I see your delivery date is 5/15? Is that confirmed? Did you get in contact with Ms. Karen?

It is confirmed through the dealer. Didn't have to talk to Ms. Karen, turns out once the dealership had a VIN they were suddenly very chatty and have been on top of it.

They really just didn't know anything.

I would not say I am close to caving into a new ride,
but I might just keep my current ride and refinance it
along with buying the BRZ, but paying for both vehicles
will hit me hard at 600 a month. _ - _

23 years later you can now trade in the kid (so to speak) for a BRZ/FRS :-D

The newest S4 does little for me. Audi's recent styling is just way too conservative and too similar from model to model.

Yep, I can confirm this. I got a chance to run the FR-S on a small course today (think autox). Its handling felt in between an AP2 S2000 and NC Miata. Softer and less nervous than the AP2, but cornered flatter and more willing to rotate than a NC Miata.

If I had to describe it, it felt like a 2+2 Miata with a fixed roof, a bit more power, and sharper handling. I was impressed. If you like driving Miatas, I think you'll like the Toybaru.

That's ironic, because the #1 reason people want Audi is because of their style. The S4 has always been a conservatively-styled performer, much like earlier M cars. Mine still wasn't inconspicuous enough to keep me from getting pulled over yesterday for "speeding" :mad0259:

suzuka 05-06-2012 03:02 PM

For my situation, getting the FRS is my last resort if I can't find an AP1 S2000 that's:

1 - almost mint
2 - unmolested
3 - complete maintenance records
4 - responsibly owned by drivers who are nearing retirement or those simply deemed too old physically to handle a hot AP1

Sushi 05-06-2012 06:52 PM

To be honest, I am afraid of getting disappointed with the GT86 because all the hype around it. I tried to convince myself to get a different car in the same price range with better practicality (GTI, Focus ST, RX8, BMW 3 series and others) I almost caved into buying a GTI, BUT no other car is more sex than the GT86! (In terms of looks and perceived performance). I've been following for years now, and it's becoming an addiction lol. I've dreamt about this car a few times, driving it at the top gear track achieving a lap time of 1:23 haha! Now all I need to do is sit in it and test drive it without getting disappointed :)

Sorry guys, I had to do it...I just couldn't pass up this opportunity. Found a mint Pontiac Aztek with the beastly 3.4 liter V6 (bigger is better, right?). It also has usable back seats, and the previous owner rigged it with a push button start. Read em' and weep guys, all that for only $18,000. I saved at least 8,000 over the FRS.

An Aztek! Really?! :barf:

High on the list of ugliest cars ever.

:respekt: NICE. Now when you pull up to a stoplight next to an FRS you can show the kiddies with their anemic little ricer 2.0 what a taste of good old 'murikan torque can do :happy0180:

Most people like conservative styling. I thought the B5 S4 really looked special versus the A4. It doesn't seem as distinctive anymore (probably due to being able to get S-line trims on the A4).

I was pulled over more in my 1993 Impreza L than I ever was in my 2001 Impreza 2.5RS (with scoops, wing, gold wheels). Who knew that slowing down would mean less run-ins with the law? The only time a cop ever mentioned my car was when I was pulled over in my MKV GTI. He was apparently somewhat impressed that I was doing 80mph by the end of the onramp onto a 65mph highway. :bellyroll:

I really wish they still brought the S4 Avant over here. I love me a fast wagon.

How much is your lease on the S4? It's a beautiful car.

very tempted to get an audi TT quattro. I went past one today, white with black rims and spoiler. It was just too sexy. I can get my hands on a second hand one easily.

OK, nevermind, even a MINT '05 Aztek AWD with all the options is only worth $10k. You trollin'!

I know, right?! Why don't we get any good wagons over here? They get the allroad in A4 and A6 body, with manual transmissions, diesels, and the S4 Avant. We get the A4-based allroad with the auto only. It's so weak! (the allroad is still fantastic, don't get me wrong)

I pay 1% of MSRP per month for six months. I also have a vehicle allowance that covers more than half of that, so my payment is tiny. I also don't have to pay for maintenance because I hand it in before the first service interval! When I hand it in, I'll take the vehicle allowance towards the Subaru and have nearly the same monthly payment, except I'll own the car after 5 years :)

They are nice, and lots of fun! I'm mad that they stopped offering a 6spd manual here, unless you get the super-rare TT RS. STaSIS USA just acquired a European tuning company and they'll be sharing technology; you could get the ECU tuned for short money and see some nice power gains over stock! Someone just traded a TT roadster 3.2 6spd, but it's a roadster, and I don't want the thirsty V6. If it were a 2.0T coupe 6spd, I'd be all over it!

trackmagic 05-07-2012 01:50 PM

I had a 2005 S4 for a few years. Before it had 50,000 miles I had to:
1) Have the window linkage rebuilt
2) Have an oil seal replaced
3) Have the steering rack replaced.

The only one I will take responsibility for is the oil seal. I think I might have been a little too aggressive on a downshift one time too many times. My little 318i takes it like a champ though.

All I can say about Audi...Get rid of it before the warranty is expired.

(I actually just dropped off my wife's passat at the mechanic this morning in fact.)
