Arg there goes my dream of having a BRZ tailights. It would be awesome if the LED can be a solid bar or something. The row of single LED bulbs looks really odd.

I think someone mentioned more into of this pic, but no one replied so I'm going to bring it back into light.

Can anyone explain why we have two streams of intake air? One goes to the intake manifold but the other stream seems to be diverted off else where. or is that the noise pipe someone mentioned earlier?

WINGS: If the image you are using is the silver TRD model,
dont you think that is rather dramatic lighting to really show the lines of the car and WOW customers?? None of the other images have ideal lighting like that and for some reason it almost looks like an illustration compared to the other pix. Considering that bean counting was a priority with this project id be very surprized to learn of varying fenders!
...cool, a single exhaust!?

your right it is dramatic, but the alternative is black and white. Only 3 colors are available for the TRD model and black would be a poorer choice than silver. So we are kinda shit out of luck. And obviously they arn't going to show a different color than what is available from the factory for that specific trim.

Also all the images in the booklet ARE illustrations or 3d renders and not photos of cars. One of my high quality scans on the other cars had evidence of it.

Anywho, ya..different fenders are had on TRD model :)

Sweet! Can't wait. I made one, but it still had the lines from the magazine -_-
Did you like throw a color over it then change the blending or what ?

Here was my quick attempt I posted back in the photoshop thread

Or maybe pre-production and the production version won't have different panels?

Different lights require additional DOT testing and approval, I really can't see Toyota wasting money on that just to make them different.

i just caught myself complaining that it's too blurry... then i realized, i don't know japanese anyways, so doesn't matter, lol.

the fender thing is forsure or implied?
I wish we could have an outline of options that could be filled in as people start to make out what it says. But then again, might be a waste since this is a JDM only manual I guess?

The greatest scan to come to the forums!

Soravia 11-16-2011 07:15 AM

You might be correct, it's going into the driver side on the JDM car. I guess they will have to re-route it to the driver side in U.S. model.

This is just great, the monkey on my shoulder has just got a lot heavier...

I hope the dash nav/radio is a standard 2 DIN, i'll just fit an Android-based unit, a OBD bluetooth thingy and have all the info about the engine, track logging, music and movies etc... and it will be AWESOME!

There's just too much to comment but about the weels, the 7.2 kg ones are 16"? What tyre size will they fit?

Nice catch, Torque converter lockup, 100ms shift times and rev matching downshift FTW... for you auto guys anyway :)

Gardus@Supersprint 11-16-2011 08:45 AM

Thanks, there are R888, R1R and Neova AD08 in that size so I'll probably stick with 16" inches with some light wheels (alleggerita?)

Hard to tell with the quality of the images but the 7.2kg ones are 18x8 and probably a forged wheel option which toyota will likely price at 4k extra or so.

Either way since 16s fit you can switch to them regardless :)

**wonders if the TRD monoblocks will clear the 16"s**

MrVito 11-16-2011 09:33 AM

I'm wondering if the American versions will even have the tubing which directs sound to the cabin. There are already changes that have to be made for the car to be LHD, and I'm sure many of you remember hearing a while back that we may get a more aggresive sounding exhaust, since we (or at least, 49 of our states) have less strict requirements for automotive sound control.

I'm sure I'm just thinking aloud here, or in type as it may be, but if they were already considering a louder cat-back, why bother redesigning the sound piping from the intake tract to the cabin when it can be left out altogether while still giving you a similar net effect on sound? I'm in all likelihood completely wrong though, just spitballing.

Didn't the scan say they required specific 17s or the 18s? I can't remember. Hell we might not have that option anyways so I'll worry about all that if I ever need to. I'm sure the standard high spec brakes will be perfectly fine for all street and track use anyways unless you run 300+hp.... Then you might want bigger heatsinks for the track.

Gardus@Supersprint 11-16-2011 09:40 AM

I wouldn't fit TRD brakes anyway, too expensive and after all, I live 100 km or so from the Brembo factory near Milan...

I think we'll just need to fit better trackpads and maybe braided lines and high performance oil, the usual stuff.

One of the good thing of a light, not too powerful car is that it's light on brakes and tyres.
The Clio 3 RS with the same power and weight has the Brembo as standard by the way, so do other cars like the Cooper S JCW, the Grande Punto Abarth Essesse...
The stock "junior" Brembo 4 pots are becoming very popular and inexpensive.

Does any of the literature discuss gear ratios? Trying to confirm what I read somewhere on the interwebs, that the FT86s 6MT was also from the IS250 (makes perfect sense)...if that is the case, here are the ratios and top speed in each gear:

1st: 3.79 / 39 mph
2nd: 2.28 / 66 mph
3rd: 1.52 / 98 mph
4th: 1.19 / 134 mph
5th: 1.00 / 150 mph
6th: 0.79 / 189 mph
(R: 3.47)
FD: 3.73

Gardus@Supersprint 11-16-2011 10:59 AM

LOL at the 6th gear speed..that will be good for fuel consumption...or for crazy people that'll fit mega-turbos!

It looks too small in the pics to be the AY6. It shows similar design to some AZ6 based transmissions.

I'm sure they'd tune the ratios for the powerband so I personally think you'll see shorter gearing than that, and a shift to third to hit 60 is most likely going to be required IMO.

Can you guys tell me what page you're seeing fender kits on? Maybe I've missed it every time I've skimmed through the images?

I don't think they're fender kits. Based on the images it looks as though the fenders on the TRD version are different than the regular spec car.

Ikaros 11-16-2011 12:19 PM

So this sound pipe thing, what exactly does it do? Does it bring the sound to the cabin or amplify the sound that's heard on the outside?
