I picked up an m3 trunk spoiler and trimmed it down to fit the BRZ.

Nice! That worked out pretty well!

Neat, is this solution more solid than the rubber STi thingie? And more importantly, can you paint it?

Wonder if the effects on the aerodynamics are the same. It IS shaped differently.

It is definitely more solid than the sti lip. You can paint it, but I think you will have to be more careful about shaping it. I was able to get it soft enough to shape by leaving it in my car, in the sun and then use the tape to hold it in shape. You would probably have to shape it with a heat gun to the rear wing then paint it so that the paint wouldn't crack from bending it.

As to aerodynamics, I'm not sure either makes a huge difference at normal speeds.

How did you get it to stick on the wing? Double sided tape? Looks good from what I can see and you probably saved a cool buck. :thanks:

It's attached with 3M tape that actually came on the lip! I am very happy with it, although I can see a few imperfections with how it is laid...nobody else notices until I have them run their finger along the back edge and I point it out.

Of course I could pull it and re-attach it; but I'm not up to that. Maybe if somebody points it out with out me bringing it up.

^ nice work! Turned out nicely!

I keep going back and forth on this thing...

zoomzoomers 06-27-2013 11:40 PM

Yeah, nice work there. :w00t:

virjose 07-01-2013 03:18 PM

Nice work! Was the trimming just on the ends or did you actually have to cut somewhere else? Dremel? A write-up would be great if you have one ;)

I just had to cut the ends; I just used a sharp knife. The stirp was way long so I had plenty of room to guess and check. I cut the ends so they mated up to each side of the spoiler and then cut parallel to one end to make it the right length.

It would be hard to do a write up unless someone in New England wants me to make another one for them; but I would need their car to size against since I now have the strip in the spot I where it needs to go.

L4NDO 08-05-2013 07:39 PM

I just installed this onto my car and IMO it finishes off the rear really well. The install went all good until I was in a rush to place the STI sticker on the flap and it's a little off center.

I'll live with it for now, but having an aluminum badge > sticker with this piece. Time to hit up eBay.

chanomatik 08-05-2013 07:57 PM

Mine should be shipping soon!

Skyllz 08-05-2013 08:02 PM

I'd love to see a "replica" out of CF or something like that. It would look very good.

chanomatik 08-14-2013 01:54 PM

I got mine in. I sold my STI sticker because it looked too tiny to me and I didn't like that it was just a sticker. So instead I orderd the 2011+ STI front lip badge replacement. Hopefully it's small enough to look okay on the flap. It comes in on Friday, so I'll letcha know then... with pictures!

I should throw on the flap anyways, but it's been raining like crazy. Today might be okay though.

forwallblakmail 08-15-2013 10:50 AM

Really considering this. Downside is I have to buy the limited spoiler first.

Dude, if you don't have the Limited spoiler, PLEASE purchase something else! You'll be better for it in the end. You already have a clean slate for a trunk. I have to either trunk swap (won't be happening while I'm in Alaska) or I have to buy a new trunk and have it painted. I wouldn't mind having two trunks, I guess. Two Trunkz!

This is what I wrestle with daily.
However, If I do any spoiler, it will be OEM. Not a huge fan of any aftermarket ones, sans an APR GT wing (track only). For that, I would absolutley get another trunk.

I agree, none of them are wowing me. I pretty much only like the ones Toyota has produced or the STI lip spoiler, which is why I want a clean trunk. The STI one paint-matched is pretty neat!

Ugh.... I hated that STi one when I first saw it. But now I'm starting to think it would look ok in person. Plus its probably cheaper than the limited....

I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO

chanomatik 08-16-2013 02:33 AM

My STI sticker emblem came in early, so I threw on the flap.
https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.n...28230823_n.jpg

The emblem I got off eBay from an STI front lip spoiler JUST fits the height of the flap... I'm not really crazy about it, but I'll rock it for now. Would've like another couple mm shorter, but oh well. @L4NDO

L4NDO 08-16-2013 11:38 AM

That emblem looks like the exact one I purchased. I think there's a eBay seller that has smaller badges similar to what @DSOmegaX had placed on his gurney flap.

Look up BaysonR for the badge. Their shop is close to me and I was planning to see how the badges look in person. If I do get a chance I'll let you know how they look, just in case you want to swap out your current one. BaysonR's badges are replicas though.

Yeah let me know. If there's one slightly smaller than this but slightly larger than the sticker then I'll totally nab it! I'll probably reuse this one for another spot.

Yeah I think mine was from baysonR on eBay. It's actually about the same size as the stock sticker that came with the flap. I got it actually because I have the rest of the sti aero and the badges matches exactly what is placed on the front lip and side skirts.

In terms of quality, they don't take the time to smooth out where each badge is cut from another so it leaves a tiny nub. You can easily fix but to be honest you really can't notice it at all. Otherwise there's no other sign that it was a knockoff haha

The359 08-24-2013 04:02 AM

I got mine in the mail from Japanparts.com, but since I ordered something else, rather than send the gurney in a cardboard tube, they curled it up and put it in a mailing box, so annoyingly the gurney is a bit warped so I'm going to have to straighten it before installing. :(

Speaking from BRZ POV

go2brz 08-29-2013 09:57 PM

Just ordered the Gurney Flap. It is on sale right now at Japanparts.com.

Wing cost was now 90.32 and shipping was 28.00. Totaled out at less than $120.00 including shipping.

Now is the time to buy if you are interested in it....

The aftermarket sale on japanparts? That's been going on for a while now ;). That sale was on when I bought my gurney last year haha. However, the price of parts on that site continue to decrease because of the declining yen, so if you keep waiting, it will most likely be even cheaper.

go2brz 08-31-2013 08:35 AM

I only posted it because others were quoting higher prices with shipping from the same vendor. Have to admit that I had no knowledge of how long the sale had been going on, I just saw that it was cheaper than the prices I had seen in this post.

I have ordered mine, at $90.32 plus $28.00 shipping I could not be happier. Don't want to wait six months to save maybe $10.00 more I simply want it now and it is a very fair price.............:)

Yeap. Japanparts, from what I've seen, is always cheaper. A lot of places have higher prices because they have a warranty for their parts. Japanparts is actually grey market, so even if parts are damaged when they're shipped to you, they are not responsible for the cost. On the flip side, I personally have never had issues nor know of anyone who has ever had issues dealing with them, so it's more than worth the risk.

chanomatik 09-01-2013 02:39 AM

I want to wear a shirt that says, "I heart Japanparts!"

Got my Subaru STI exhaust tips from them, and it arrived quickly and very well packed at a great price.

Yes, you are correct actually, I mispoke. They are very similar in appearance actually, but while mine are real Subaru parts from Japan, they do not have STI etched into them. Is that just tips or part of an axle back or cat back system? I had not seen just tips like that for sale anywhere, but maybe I missed seeing them talked about on this site.

It's the sports muffler that's listed in japanparts. It's an axle back

HI,

I accidently loss those two black push pins.
Could someone provide me the information(link) where I can buy the same push pins in US?

By the way, please also give me somesuggestion to cover those two holes, if I plan not to drill the hole.
Thanks a lot.

I know several of us have just trimmed the ends of the pins so they will fit without the holes being drilled.

You could use some black stickon rubber feet. They would probably look pretty good while covering the holes.

Finally got mine installed, fairly simple, and it looks real good on DGM. I skewed the sticker a bit, but I may just take it off and go without, it's not a big thing to me.

I did not drill the holes in the wing, so hopefully the tape holds up well.

RallySport Direct 09-03-2013 07:32 PM

I've had mine installed on my personal BRZ for awhile now and finally got some pictures.
