The bottom of the engine is the only place available to place the turbo?

rmjjensen 08-03-2012 11:12 AM

Wow so far I love what I see and hear! Cannot wait to see (and hear) the finished prototype.

Keep up the great work.

the car is RHD but he did state that the kit is LHD and RHD compatible.

Ya I kinda got that already. I can't wait to see where this goes.

WolfsFang 08-03-2012 11:43 AM

I want to see some dyno runs, if the price stays the same at release then this is a great deal.

There are probably other places you could stick it but it's just going to make the turbo spool slower due to the longer piping. Subaru chose to put the turbo in basically the same location for their two newest turbo engines. As long as it doesn't sit too low.

DanPO 08-03-2012 01:59 PM

Yeah this looks like a good kit...

FT-86GOD 08-03-2012 02:08 PM

WOW. It looks really good. Some people might think it's factory.

FRES86 08-03-2012 06:06 PM

I cant wait! This is exactly what I wanted out of a turbo kit for this car. Good HP and TQ gains while still maintaining reliability and not thrashing on the motor! This is my daily driver! I cant wait to see the progress!

Exhaust 08-03-2012 07:20 PM

With all this turbo talk, I wonder who's going to be the first customer on the forums with a grenade'd turbo. I've done some snooping around on other subaru rs forums and that shit is just scary. Though I am very confident in AVO and their development.

Sounds like you know something we don't... like the HP and tq figures...

trifenix 08-03-2012 07:58 PM

I think he's referring to this earlier post by the seller:

"We won't be going for ultimate horsepower, either. While we could, it's not in our planning for this kit. What we want to see, and what we aim for with the main kit, is similar to our other kits - boost from 1500rpm with a very strong mid-range. With reliability.

Although I'm sure the dyno's will be posted when they're done.

WolfsFang 08-03-2012 08:48 PM

if you guys need a extra car to test on im here :D!

Where do you see a black FMIC?

We hear you,
we've had the same requests in Japan, Australia, and Singapore as well as our Californian customers. Police inspections, CARB/EPA are getting out of hand in all areas.

All intake and intercooler piping will be made of wire-reinforced Silicone, and will only be available in Black. There will be a choice between the standard air box, or an aftermarket air box. The FMIC will be available in Silver or Black.

BOV will be an optional part, with an AVO 100% recirculate (or 50/50) available, as well as other aftermarket or even OEM. The flange for the BOV will be the same as the EVO 7/8/9, for customers that want a full "OEM" look to it.

Arnie_1 08-04-2012 05:06 AM

Wow, very excited to see how this develops. Would be great if there was an official CARB approved version. But that's, once again, massive investment.

@ Paul Hansen - when did you move to Seattle? Or are you commuting between Japan and Seattle? I'm friends with Max D. and always loved the occasional pic he'd send me from some of the cool projects you were working on.

Has the reverse intake manifold made packaging any easier for this project?

Pscylo 08-04-2012 10:26 AM

Going to be able to keep the skid plate? Be nice to hide as much as possible from the snooping mirror on a roller.

It will be nice to keep the skid plate for protection.

AVOturboworld 08-04-2012 01:56 PM

Currently, the turbo sits about 2 inches above the undertray/skidplate. Should be able to keep it, will see at the final.

Silverdub 08-04-2012 08:52 PM

So, when can we send you a check?

FTEIGHTSIX 08-04-2012 09:30 PM

What type of tuning is included with this kit?

Also, what turbo do you plan on running?

I love how you still utilize the stock intake.
Reminds me of my NA-T setup on my 240.
Thats how low key i wanted to make it look.

AkaJabari 08-04-2012 09:50 PM

Where does the downpipe terminate on this setup? I'm trying to dertermine if anyones headerback exhaust system would line up with this or do we need to get something that terminates at the overpipe. Future planning.

Tylub 08-05-2012 02:48 AM

Soooo sexy! This will definitely be a big hit:w00t:

Boxer-Guy 08-05-2012 08:47 AM

Have you guys started your car up ?
If you have does it really get that boxer rumble

thebear21 08-05-2012 03:23 PM

umm yup. i want this! only question is tuning? i know its going to happen but have you guys done your own tuning for this? either way im buying this kit.

Looks like their manifold mates to the stock down pipe.

DrifterX 08-05-2012 11:32 PM

This looks amazing...

All I have to say is, SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!

Visconti 08-06-2012 08:09 AM

Forgive me if they was already said - but what size turbo car you leasing this kit with. And what's the largest turbo this kit will accept.

Thanks

John

darkside8103 08-06-2012 03:25 PM

Very interesting. I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

DriftEightSix 08-06-2012 04:26 PM

Couldn't see what you said about tuning the car.

You using your own ecu piggybacked or something like that?

Also with the fmic will it be a no cut kit?

We don't have an exact size yet - not that we don't have a turbo in, but we haven't determined yet if it's the best sizing for the application.

Paul, it's been asked multiple times, what is the tuning solution going to be?

Uwish 08-08-2012 06:13 AM

Is the turbo a Garrett or a chinese knoock off?
What tuning tool are you going to be selling with it?

AVOturboworld 08-08-2012 03:54 PM

We haven't finalized on a tuning solution - they are a work in progress right now, just like the turbo kits. Currently we are focused on getting all the mechanicals sorted out. The oil pump portion is progessing smoothly.

When the turbocharger selection/build is finalized, we'll put those details up. There's a number of CHRA's in the sizes we need.

AVOturboworld 08-08-2012 04:03 PM

Just a peek at the FMIC on the JDM AVO BRZ:

eikond 08-08-2012 04:14 PM

Aww.. poor BRZ with front license plate bracket :)

I do like seeing the IC hanging out inside the bumper cover though. very nice!!! Is that the black painted version?

Is the radiator going to get enough air flow?

Looks great though! Loving this kit so far, but I'm torn between this and the Bullet Supercharger kit
