So this is like official right? What financing rates can we expect if there is nothing "special"?

I learned about that site from this forum, and passed on to my friend who just got that rate for a new BMW X5 |

I've used Penfed myself.. they have the best rates! However, you have to work for it... You have to coordinate with the dealer to have the proper docs sent to Penfed to finish processing the loan. They are very "hands off" about the whole process. I had to postpone my purchase by 4 days last time because of the hoops I had to jump through to get the loan done and the check sent in the mail to me. BTW.. Why does everyone assume that the VIP will get them under invoice? There are seperate grades of VIP and only a very select few will have access to the top discount.. Most people will only get the basic VIP.. which is straight invoice. This is of course.. if Subaru offers the incentive at all. I have a deposit in with a dealer who says they will allow the VIP if Subaru authorizes it.. I suspect this will be the case with most places. In all honesty, I doubt Subaru will offer the VIP at launch.. I'd predict about a 6 month wait time for it... Which means I probably won't get my BRZ until this fall  |

It depends on the manufacturer and what incentives they are offering at the time. When a manufacturer really wants to push their vehicle sales, they will offer rates that are lower than market standards... say 0% for 60 months or .9% for 60 months, etc.. These rates are artificially lower than a bank or credit union rate because the manufacturer is subsidising the rate to make it more attractive to help sell more cars. For a new release like the BRZ, I'm quite sure Subaru will not be spending any money to offer special incentives like low interest rates. So, they will offer their standard financing packages.. probably around 4% right now. Dealers have multiple lenders to chose from in order to finance their customers. They have the manufacturer and then a number of local or national banks/credit unions/ or specialized auto finance corporations. Each of these sources publishes a wholesale rate to the dealership.. then dealer then chooses which of these to offer to you. When they offer you the rate, they normally mark that rate up a little to earn some profit for the dealership. The key for the consumer is to shop around to compare rates. But keep in mind that if convenience is a big deal for you... the dealership has the huge advantage in that area. I've taken a slightly higher rate in the past just so that I had the ease and simplicity that comes with dealerships handling everything. Rates may vary considerably depending on your credit as well. |

Try to pay off any balances you can if your credit score isn't at least 720 (equifax, no one around here uses anything else so it's the only one I pay attention to). Depending on whatever my current business card balance is (tends to be anywhere from 0 to $25,000 any given month) my credit score can change a fair amount so I plan on not using it for a month or so before purchase just in case (not that it matters, 760 is the same as 800 as far as a car purchase is concerned, but still). |
So.. as always take everything you hear with a grain of salt..
I spoke with the GM of my local Subaru dealership and asked him if he had confirmation of the VIP question. He said that he was in a meeting on Tuesday and he asked the regional rep that question. His answer was "probably no VIP, but there hasn't been an official answer yet". So maybe there is a glimmer of hope.. doubtful.. but maybe.. |

Fine!!! be that way.. :bonk: Stomp on a guys dreams.. I really can't justify buying the car at sticker price.. so it looks like I'll have to sit by the sidelines this summer and wait until winter or next spring. That sucks!!! I did ask the GM if he'd consider discounting the price if VIP was not an option.. He said they would work with me.. Not sure what that means.. but maybe I could get $500 to $1000 off... Plus I'm planning on going to the auto show next weekend and they typically have a $250 auto show discount coupon that is good for 60 days.. so they is a very slim chance that I might get that. It's not looking good for me though.. |

Dave is correct, there won't be any VIP program for this car at least for the first year. Who knows if they will open it up next year or not. Might be a while before they do.

Alright.. I finally got definite verification from my local dealer. No VIP..
Funny though.. another dealer I've been in contact with still says they think they might have VIP.. They must not have gotten the allocation fax yet. I actually got to read that section of the letter myself.. Having said that.. I'm still going to buy the BRZ.. I got a very attractive offer from the dealer and put down a deposit.. am 1st in line and they say their allocation is 9 for the year.. Now I have to sell my Outback XT LTD before the BRZ comes.. |

I do have another car.. a 98 Honda Civic that I use as a daily driver. It has a ton of miles, so I wouldn't want to go a very long time with only that car, but I think a few months should be ok. RE: the allocation fax.. I didn't get to read it all word for word, but the salesperson showed me a few sections.. I read the part where it said they were keeping it rare and desirable and would have small allocations and because of this they would not be offering the VIP in order to help maximize profits. I didn't see any info about other incentives.. I wouldn't expect much.. maybe a 3.9% financing deal.. but that really isn't a deal.. that's pretty much an average going rate for a car loan.. |

I know Penfed credit union has 1.9% for up to 48 months. 2.49 for 60 months.
I'll most likely go that route. |
^ Wise choice. That is what my wife and I did on a recent auto purchase. If the dealer was willing to match, then I say why not. But no need to lose more money on the loan.

Does anyone know if the Subaru VIP Program works in Canada?
|
Any word on if Subaru will be honoring the college graduate program?

based on the website... :/ no idea |

I would very surprised if they didn't honor the college grad program. It's not really a great program.. Many other manufacturers actually give a financial benefit in the form of a rebate.. But Subaru simply makes it easier for college grads with a lack of credit history to obtain financing. I think they have lower credit score requirements and may give a month or two of delay in the first payment.. I would be pretty confident that they will honor it. |

Now that we have a thread with invoice pricing has anyone been able to convince a dealer to honor VIP pricing or close to invoice?

I'm guessing Subaru will be about as public with their VIP price timing as they have been with everything else?

Anybody heard anything on VIP pricing on the BRZ?
